Buy you the world

A Pocketful of Sunshine

Waking up to the sound of birds merrily chirping outside of the window, and the golden kisses from the sun streaming in through the cracks in the curtains, Jongin yawns, wincing as his jaw cracks, before burrowing further into the cocoon of warmth that is his sheets and Sehun’s slender body entwined with his. Smiling as he could feel himself being swept away, back into the world of dreams, Jongin exhaled deeply, revelling in another weekend sleep-in.

All of a sudden it hit him with the force of a thousand grumpy Sehuns; today was no ordinary day, in fact, today was a very special day – it was Sehun’s birthday. Cracking his bleary eyes open – and groaning at the sudden brightness – Jongin slowly untangled himself from Sehun, careful not to rouse his sleeping lover, before sliding carefully out of their enormous king-sized bed.

Gazing lovingly as his beloved lay curled up in-between the crisp cotton sheets, looking like the epitome of innocence, Jongin smiled as he observed the morning-glory that was Sehun. Soft tousled locks messily arranged around his peaceful face, creamy skin glistening with a thin sheen of sweat from the warmth, and lips slightly parted as he inhaled and exhaled, occasionally twitching into a smile as a pleasant thought invaded his dreams.

Deciding to be a good boyfie and serve his partner breakfast in bed, Jongin quietly padded into the kitchen and set about making choc-chip pancakes – Sehun’s favourite and recipe courtesy of their domestic friend Kyungsoo. Humming cheerfully as he prepared the batter, and more often than not dipping a finger in to taste it – wouldn’t want Sehun to get something bland! – Jongin felt his heartbeat quicken from nerves as he thought of what he’d gotten Sehun as a present.

I hope that he likes it…

After about ten minutes of concentrated cooking, a stack of warm golden brown choc-chip pancakes, drizzled with maple syrup and garnished with a scoop of vanilla-bean icecream found its way into the bedroom, with Jongin brandishing the plate as if it was a culinary masterpiece.

Nearly dropping the plate as he saw his boyfriend sitting comfortably in the middle of the bed with only the white sheets to cover his lower regions, Jongin gasped as he saw his beautiful Sehun, bathed in the gentle golden glow, beaming up at him with his adorable eye-smile.

“Good morning sweetheart,” smiled Jongin, joining Sehun on the bed, snuggling up to him before pressing a light kiss to his forehead as he handed him his breakfast. “Happy birthday.”

“Thank you darling! It looks divine,” Sehun cooed, turning to his devoted lover and showering his face with butterfly kisses.

“Hang on a sec,” interrupted Jongin, clambering out of bed to retrieve a beautifully-wrapped box, just as Sehun went to take a mouthful of his delicious meal. “Here’s your present, love.”

“Oohh!” squealed Sehun, absolutely loving the attention he was getting and how Jongin was pampering and spoiling him on his special day. “I wonder what it is…”

Waiting in anticipation as Sehun delicately unwrapped the gift, making sure not to tear the wrapping – to save it, though Jongin could never fathom why – before reaching into the box and pulling out a small, exquisitely-painted globe – the fancy kind that you can buy from the jeweller’s or an antique store.

Looking up at his beloved in confusion, Sehun didn’t really understand why Jongin had seen fit to buy him a globe, of all things. Didn’t he catch the very strong hint that he’d wanted a nice holiday to Jeju island?

“Do you remember when I first told you that I loved you? I swore to you that I would give you the world,” Jongin began with a soft smile, deciding to explain seeing as Sehun really had no idea as to the meaning behind the present. “Well I’m keeping my promise…and so I bought you the world.”

Tearing up at Jongin’s endearingly charming, oh-so-thoughtful and just plain sweet gift, Sehun dropped the present back into its protective box, flung his arms around Jongin’s neck and kissed him until they were both breathless.

“You already gave me the world when you gave me your heart,” Sehun whispered lovingly, as he gazed into Jongin’s tender eyes. “And that’s the best present of all.”
