The revolting scent of citrus air freshener and talcum powder filled his nostrils, as Oh Sehun nervously paced in front of Room 27 in the Intensive Care Ward at the local hospital. Wringing his sweaty hands as he anxiously waited to hear from doctors, nurses or anyone about his lover’s condition, Sehun took a deep breath and tried his absolute hardest not to burst into tears. Again.

“Sehun-ah, come and sit with us,” Kyungsoo murmured softly, obviously aware of the younger’s distressed state.

“Yes, join us,” agreed Suho, nodding his head as he beckoned the ashen-faced boy over. “You’re making me nervous by pacing about like that.”

Timidly, Sehun perched on the very edge of the uncomfortable plastic chair, curling his toes within his well-worn sneakers. Raising his wet eyes upwards, he locked his gaze onto the door where his beloved was currently inside, being assessed on the state of his condition.

“Do…do you think that he’ll be okay?” Sehun whispered brokenly, before burying his face in his hands as he succumbed to his tears.

With a sympathetic smile, Suho wrapped his arm around Sehun’s trembling shoulders and pulled him into a comforting hug, while Kyungsoo squeezed his knee and murmured words of solace.

“Of course he will,” Suho replied firmly, trying to convince them all that Jongin would be all right. “It’ll take more than a bloody car to take him out.”

With a strangled laugh, Sehun removed his hands from his face and stared up at Suho, a spark of hope shining in his eyes as fat tears continued to streak down his cheeks.

“R-Really? Do you really think so?” he asked with a quiver evident in his voice, desperate for reassurance.

“With all of my heart,” Suho promised, as he pulled the boy into his soothing embrace and kissed his forehead. “Jongin will be fine.”

“I hope so…it’s my fault that he’s there anyway,” Sehun mumbled, almost inaudibly.

“Don’t be ridiculous, Sehun!” scolded Kyungsoo with an annoyed look on his face, as he forced the sniffling boy to face him. “It’s not your fault! If anything, we should blame the idiot that hit him – not you.”

“Yes it is,” he whimpered as a fresh onslaught of tears – this time of regret – attacked him. “He went out because of me…I’d been nagging him for ages that he didn’t help enough around the apartment and that if things didn’t improve soon…I-I threatened to l-leave him!”

With open mouths, Kyungsoo and Suho stared at a guilt-stricken Sehun as explained what had happened before the accident, seemingly unable to believe that the perfect couple had been arguing and talking of ending it.

“O-Of course I didn’t mean it,” Sehun continued, his bottom lip quivering as he attempted to keep his composure. “But I said it anyway and that’s when Jongin snapped. He ranted at me that he was sick of my crap and how whenever we’d fight I’d threaten to leave…then he grabbed his keys and stormed out the front door…and you know what happened next.”

“Sehun…” began Kyungsoo as the watched the boy break down and sob. “Jongin loves you very much and I know that you feel the same…every couple fights over stupid little things – it’s normal. So don’t blame yourself about what had happened – I know that Jongin doesn’t.”

Sehun nodded, still unconvinced but deep inside, he vowed that he would change and become a better boyfriend for Jongin – this accident had been his much-needed ‘kick’ into action.

Jongin-ah…I’m sorry, he thought as a warmly smiling doctor approached the expectant trio. But if you’d let me, I’ll spend the rest of forever making it up to you.

Story Prompt: Sehun is a shy and bratty guy, Jongin is his very patient boyfriend and they live together. But one day, Jongin had an accident and so, Sehun regrets the bad things that he did to him.
