Possibilities
Another ChanceAs usual Misty arrived at her “Me Talk Pretty Class”, which was what she called the English 101 class. Although she was a journalist major, she hated the class, heck she hated the English language. It was ugly sounding, the slowest and every word practically had a hundred synonyms. But she liked writing. It was her artistic talent, only difference was she created a picture using only words. She watched as the hall began to fill up with students, a couple girls would always give her piercing looks as they passed her. The semester was almost done and they still looked at her like they just first laid eyes on her. Misty found it amusing that everyone found her mysterious, she always thought of herself as the kind of person that was easy to read.
“Hello!” Interrupting Misty’s thoughts, the new kid sat down beside her and got out his materials. She knew it, this kid thought that the empty space to her right now belonged to him and she wasn’t very fond of that. She opened to say something derogatory, when the professor spoke up to begin the class. She turned to face the front and tried her best to not notice his existence.
“You aren’t much of a talker, huh?” He suddenly piped in fifteen minutes into the lecture. It took Misty a few seconds to realize that he said something, she was used to not hearing anything besides her monotone professor. She just glanced up at him and went back to taking her notes, which was covered in doodles and only one sentence.
“No wonder you have these two rows to yourself, your silence is chilling.” He said. She felt his eyes on her but she continued to stare a hole into her paper. After a minute, he dropped his heavy gaze and went back to taking his notes not uttering another word. As the lecture made Misty’s eyelids grow heavy, she started twirling her pen around her fingers but soon she regretted playing with it in the first place. Her pen flew from her fingertips and it landed on the other side of boy that sat next to her. She let out a soft groan. To her surprise, the boy used his foot to reach for the pen and grabbed it once it was in arm’s length. Misty quickly tried to grab for it but he only pulled it away from her.
“Please give me my pen back.” Misty said trying not to sound irritated.
“So you are capable of talking,” He replied with a sly smile. Misty didn’t drop her glare, talking to her was one thing but teasing her was a whole other level. “I will give it back once you tell me your name, I’m Baekhyun and you are?” He finished.
“Satan.” She said harshly only to gain a smirk from Baekhyun.
“Quiet but feisty, I like that,” Misty reached for her pen again but Baekhyun only drew it farther away from her. “This monotone professor of ours is going to say something important any minute now and trust me on this; you would want to write it down.” And as if on queue the professor suddenly said their exams dates, Misty turned her head back up front, he didn’t have it written anywhere. She cursed and turned back to face Baekhyun.
“I’m Misty, nice to meet you.” She said in a low voice. Baekhyun smiled at her. One of the few things she liked in this world other than writing, reading and music, was people’s smiles. But not just any smile but big toothy eye smiles. She hated how it blinded her and how it melted her insides, like what Baekhyun’s smile was doing to her. She had absolutely no control over it. She was so mesmerized by his eye smile that she didn’t realize he had already set down her pen on her desk. She blinked a few times and quickly darted her eyes back to her paper and jotted down the exam dates. She heard a low chuckle but decided to ignore it. The class was dismissed 30 minutes early but this time Misty was blocked to exit the hall in such a hurry.
“Look. I know you might not like me but that won’t stop me from asking this,” Baekhyun paused looking Misty in the eye, her eyebrow raised. “Let’s have lunch.” Misty had to prevent herself from laughing and pushing him a side. She took a few seconds to compose herself before saying a word.
“You’re right; I’m not very fond of you. And your invitation is tempting, really. But I happen to have other plans for lunch.” She said with a smile as she tried to walk pass by him.
“You know, if you would give people a chance, think of the possibilities, you might just find something valuable in this world,” Misty stopped in her tracks but she didn’t turn around, waiting. “I’m not asking you out on a date, far from that. Just give me a chance.” Baekhyun finished. She stood there, frozen. She slightly considered it but talked herself out of it. And without turning back around she left the hall. Baekhyun watched her until she was indulged by the crowd of students, he just sighed and left hall, walking the opposite direction of Misty.
