Tutorial 5: Tips on Organizing Your Gimp Folders
Gimp 101
I am a huge freak when it comes to organization and because of it, I try to organize everything if at all possible. I have found that keeping things organized is key to becoming a successful graphic artist! This tutorial is going to show you how to organize your patterns, brushes, and curves folder. I only organize my patterns and curves folder because I have so many patterns and because it’s much easier to organize patterns. I haven’t attempted to organize my brushes folder due to the fact that I have so many brushes. Before downloading curves, brushes, or patterns, be sure to organize your folder first before downloading anything. Also, please don’t open Gimp up until you’re finished organizing the folder(s) you want to organize.
1. Go to the folder you would like to organize first; I have chosen my patterns folder. To find your patterns folder, go to the User’s Name > .gimp-2.8 > patterns. You can find all of the folders you can organize in your .gimp-2.8 folder. Here is what my patterns folder looks like after I’ve organized it:
I’ve highlighted all the folders that I have manipulated and the ones that I think you should be manipulated.
2. All you’re going to do is create new folders to put inside your patterns folder. Here are the folder names I’ve chosen:
- Collage
- Cute
- Flowers
- Hearts
- Misc
- Pastel
- Plaid
- Polka Dots
- Rainbow
- Solid Color
- Stars
- Stripes
- Swirls
- Vint
