Tutorial 23: Angst Poster Tutorial

Recommendation: Before we start, I highly recommend you download my Circle Fuzzy Brush Pack for Gimp in case you haven’t already got it downloaded and installed.

Finally, a poster tutorial! YAY!!! Let’s get started! :)
1. Download the poster kit, un-zip it and install the font that is inside (click here to learn how). Make sure you place the folder somewhere you can easily access.
2. Create a new canvas with these settings and make sure your foreground color is black:
3. Open up the following images as layers:
- Jessica.jpg
- darkrailrod.jpg
- BoyModelStaringinMirror.jpg
By going up to File > Open as Layers.
4. Go over to the layer palette and add an alpha channel to each layer (except the Background layer) by right clicking on the layer and scrolling down to ‘Add Alpha Channel’ and clicking on it.
5. Click on the eye that is beside the BoyModelStaringinMirror.jpg and Jessica.jpg and make those two layers invisible. Now right click on the darkrailrod.jpg layer and scroll over to ‘Scale Layer.’ Match these settings:
Make sure the chain is linked, not broken. Click ‘Scale’ at the bottom of the pop-up. Go over to the tools palette and click on the crosshair move tool, which is this button . Move the dark railroad layer down to the bottom of the canvas. Now go back over to the layers palette and click on the eye next to the dark railroad layer and make it invisible.
6. Go over to Jessica’s layer and click on the eye to make it visible once again. Now right click on the layer and scroll over to ‘Scale Layer.’ Match these settings:
Make sure the chain is linked, not broken. Click ‘Scale’ at the bottom of the pop-up. Go over to the tools palette and click on the crosshair move tool. Move Jessica’s layer to the upper left hand corner of the canvas, it’s ok if some of her picture gets cut off as long as you can still see her face. Now go back over to the layers palette and click on the eye next to her layer and make it invisible.
7. Go over to the BoyModelStaringinMirror.jpg layer and click on the eye to make it visible. Now right click on the layer and scroll over to ‘Scale Layer.’ Match these settings:
Make sure the chain is linked, not broken. Click ‘Scale’ at the bottom of the pop-up. Go over to the tools palette and click on the crosshair move tool. Move the boy’s layer to the upper right hand corner of the canvas, it’s ok if the mirror is cut off somewhat as long as his reflection is still visible. Now make the other two layers visible again by clicking the eyes. This is what my canvas looks like after all of the scaling and repositioning the layers:
Yours should look almost similar.
7. Rearrange the layers in the layer’s palette in this order:
- Jessica
- Boy starring in the mirror
- Dark railroad
- Background
8. Now it’s time to add a layer mask to each layer. Click on each layer (except the backgroun
