Tutorial 18: 3D Text
Gimp 101This tutorial will show you how to make your text look like this:
1. Open Gimp and create a new canvas that is about 275 (width) X 100 (height).
2. Click on the text tool and make the text box as big as the canvas. Type your username or a random poster name and center the text so that it is in the center of the canvas. Make sure the text color is black.
3. Right click on the text layer and scroll down till you see ‘Flatten Image.’ Click on it.
4. After flattening the image, create a duplicate of the flattened image.
5. Click on the bottom layer, and go up to Colors > Colorize. A popup should appear, try and match your settings to mine, turning the hue and saturation up:
I know that it doesn’t appear any different at first, but I promise you, it has been colorized. You may notice a sort of reddish hue around it, if you do then that’s a good sign.
6. Click on the top layer. Go up to Colors > Colorize. Match your settings to mine, turning up only the saturation:
Again, you won’t see any major change, but it you do, it should be a bluish color.
7. Make sure the top layer is still selected, lower the opacity of the layer to about 50%. You can make it lower, but you don’t want the opacity to be too low to the point you can’t see the bluish layer.
