Koharu’s POV

After a week, I’m not healed yet but still I went to school.

Within that week, it’s like hell.

No Yabu-kun. Even his shadow.

No texts. No calls.

I tried to call him but he doesn’t answer.

So even though I’m not yet fully recovered, I insist to Akira-chan that I’ll go to school.

She keeps on stopping me but I told her that I need to see Yabu-kun.

Akira-chan told me that these past few days since my accident, Yabu-kun is frequently cutting classes.

He doesn’t even talk to them anymore. Even to Yaotome-kun.

He just talks to Yamada-kun and Keito-kun and Freya-chan.

Akira-chan said that Yabu-kun is always with Freya-chan.

What’s happening to you Yabu-kun?

Why are you not answering my calls?

I entered the classroom and they all greeted me with smiles.

“Are you okay now?” Midori-chan asked.

“Shouldn’t you get more rest first?” Kaname-kun said.

“Let me help you.” Keito-kun said.

“Arigatou minna-san, daijobou desu.” I said. (Thank you everyone, I’m okay.)

I looked around for Yabu-kun but he’s nowhere to be seen. Even Freya-chan.

I asked Yamada-kun.

“Do you know where Yabu-kun is?”

“He’s not going to school today.” He said.

“Why?” I asked.

“I don’t know.”

“Gomenasai Koharu-chan.” He said. He’s avoiding me?

Since no one answers my questions. I just went to Yabu-kun’s house.

I opened the door. No one comes here besides me and Yamada-kun. But Yamada-kun just goes here every other day every night. So

if I come in, Yabu-kun immediately knows that it’s me.

“Ya..”

I was about to say his name. But when I entered, I saw him kissing Freya-chan.

Torridly.

I don’t know what to do so I just closed the door.

Then let my tears fall continuously.

I sat in front of his door. My shoulder on my knees and my hands covering my  mouth preventing it to make any sound.

Crying as hard as I can.

Why now? Yabu-kun, you told me you love me.

I trusted you.

Yabu-kun. I know you have a reason. Please tell me.

Because it hurts. It hurts a lot.

I hit my heart with my fist. Thinking the pain from my fist would overcome the pain in my heart.

But it didn’t. I continuously did it. But nothing happened. The pain inside me is just so strong.

“I knew you would come here.” Yamada-kun said as he hand me a hanky.

I looked at him. I need someone. I hugged him.

“Yamada-kun,” I said.

The next day. Still no texts nor calls from Yabu-kun. No explanation.

I went to school.

Akira-chan exchanged seats with Yabu-kun after I told her what happened.

“How are you?” Akira-chan asked.

“Fine.” I said even though I’m not.

“If you need someone, I’m just here.”

“Arigatou.” I said.

We were waiting for the last class to start when I felt my phone ring.

Library. After Class.

With that, I suddenly felt a pinch of happiness in me. Even after what happened.

I know he has a reason.

I know it’s valid.

At the library.

I saw Yabu-kun sitting at the table at the farthest corner of the library.

“Yabu-kun.” I said with a smile.

He looked at me. His face is blank. No sign of happiness to see me.

“How are you? How have you been?” I asked him.

“Do you want me to go to your house this weekend?” I asked continuously.

“I’m breaking up with you.” He said directly.

“Do..Do you want me to cook for you? You still have to teach me how to play a guitar, right?” I asked him ignoring what he said.

“I said I’m breaking up with y—“

“No!! No!!” tears started to fall.

“I have no time to explain things to you.” He said. His face still blank.

“Why?!! Tell me!! Why now Yabu-kun?” I asked him.

He remained silent.

“What did I do?? Why are you making me suffer like this?” tears won’t stop.

“One week without connection or anything and now you’re going to say that you’re breaking up with me? One week without you

seemed like hell to me. Do you really want me to live this life alone without you?” I asked.

He still didn’t answer. I grabbed the end of his uniform.

“I beg you. Tell me, please. Because it hurts. It hurts in here.” I said while pointing in my heart.

“You told me you love me. What was that for? Was all the things happened to us nothing to you?” I asked.

He’s not answering.

I wiped away my tears.

If he likes Freya-chan, I wouldn’t stop him. Who am I to stop him from getting what gives him happiness.

Even though it’s hard.

Even though it’s killing me.

“If..If you’re happy with her, then fine.” I said.

He turned to me.

“That’s love right? Making people you love happy even though it hurts you too.” I said.

I let go of his uniform.

“I’m ..I’m happy for you.” I said with a smile while tears are still pouring out of my eyes.

Then he left me there alone. Without any word.

I fell into my knees while crying.

Love?  So this is what real love feels like.

I saw Akira-chan enter the library.

She immediately went to me then hugged me.

“Koharu-chan..” she said.
