Chapter 4
Seoul, Saranghae"I'm still not so sure about this," Jaejin fretted for what seemed to be the fiftieth time that day.
"Come on, it might be fun," Jonghun said encouragingly, "I mean, what else are we going to do after the year-end award shows? Once we're done promotions, it's not like we're going to have a lot of schedules."
Their manager had just spoken to them after practice about being partnered up with UC Love before their debut. Some of the teams were quite logical – Jonghun would be helping the leader and Hongki would be helping the lead vocalist. But Jaejin couldn't wrap his head around how he was supposed to help his partner, the rapper/dancer. Even Minhwan wasn't sure how to coach the maknae that he was partnered with, although at least his pairing was a bit more reasonable.
"It's too bad you won't be here, Seunghyun," Jaejin said as FT Island sat around in their dorm, "You could probably help the rapper more than I could..."
But, like their manager had pointed out, it wasn't necessarily the specific skills like rapping or dancing that FT Island could help them with – it was the experience of being a star, the insider tips that only a celebrity would know to help survive in the music industry.
"FNC released UC Love's profiles on their website," Jonghun announced, having a laptop open in front of him.
Jaejin narrowed his eyes knowingly, "Are you trying to see who your partner is in advance?"
"Well, it would be helpful if we could recognize them, right? Introductions won't be so awkward," he replied reasonably, then seemed to find his partner's profile. "Let's see here... Ahn-Hae-Young," he read out each syllable of her name.
A grin crept across Jaejin's face. "Is she pretty?" he asked from the other side of the room.
"Is that all you care about?" Jonghun laughed, but with Jaejin's expectant silence, he sighed. "Well...of course she is, she's part of an idol group. I'm pretty sure that's a requirement of some kind."
"Pass it here, I want to see if my partner is cute."
"Wait she's..." he glanced at the leader's profile again, "Older than me?" He was quiet for a moment, and Jaejin burst out laughing.
"Oh no, hyung! You're so popular with the dongsaengs, but maybe she'll just think you're too young! Of all things, a hoobae that's older than you?" Jaejin cried out dramatically, "Ouch, tough luck man."
