Chapter 25
Seoul, Saranghae"Alright, alright, everyone back to their places!" the stage director ordered, "When the lights dim down, Haeyoung comes in with the a cappella intro and the MR will follow. Miyoung, you're a little out of sync, so watch Eunji for the cue. And Yoonhee, make sure you're holding those notes steady during the choreography. One more run, then we have to move on!"
UC Love went through their title performance one more time, still trying to adjust to how different it was performing on stage than in their practice room. The stage was big, so they had to spread out the choreography ever so slightly or else the empty space around them would just dwarf the impact of their performance. FT Island was there too, cheering them on through the slip ups and little mistakes here and there. It was dry rehearsals today, then a break tomorrow as it would be New Year's. But after that was their showcase, and anticipation was building up for the big day.
When it was time to go through the showcase start to finish, beginning with the solo stages, the four girls gathered their wits backstage before wishing each other luck when it was their turn. Eunji could be seen going through the movements of her choreography, trying hard to keep it fresh in her mind.
"Don't worry," Jaejin assured her, "You've practiced so much, you've got this."
Eunji nodded wordlessly, but kept practicing on her own anyways.
Haeyoung was first, and her piano composition was beautiful and mesmerizing, just as Jonghun knew it would be. They had worked hard together, and it had pulled off. Jonghun had no regrets – a testament of their teamwork, the performance was sure to draw the audience in as the opening stage.
After that was Miyoung, who would lighten things up with her cute solo song. She almost started singing the wrong lyrics as she went into the second verse, but she quickly corrected herself as if nothing had happened, and all went smoothly. Minhwan just shook his head with a lighthearted sigh of relief – she would have memorized the lyrics easily if she had been practicing the whole time like she was supposed to, but at least she had pulled off the minor mistake in a professional manner. FT Island and the rest of UC Love cringed at the song's aegyo as they watched, and Minhwan couldn't help but feel proud at how far Miyoung had come. She was ready for this, and they both knew it.
Then came Yoonhee's love ballad. She was confident and excited; the stage was where she really shone, and she had waited for this for a long time. The only problem Yoonhee was facing was that she had to switch her song from a duet – as it was originally intended – to a solo. There wouldn't be the nice harmonizing effect like she wanted, but if she watched her breathing, she could still pull off all the notes on her own.
But things weren't going as planned. Only halfway through the song, the stage director called out to pause the music, and the lead vocalist on stage looked down at her feet. She could hear her
