The Ship of Mysteries

“All of the victims are part of an old gang called The Silver Skulls. Uncle Carm was associated with the Silver Skulls and was a longtime member back in the 80’s. But then happened and they all turned against each other and his family was killed. For years the murderers of his family were unknown. But he knew that they were members of the Silver Skulls.

“One day I was cleaning out his file cabinets when I came across old documents of the gang. I read through everything and knew about it all. Carm figured that he could use me to find out who the murderers were. It was quite easy, to be honest. Only 4 didn’t have an alibi and their motives were pretty clear. He then told me to round them all up in one place so that he could deal with them. He said he’d give me money if I completed the task. I did so by anonymously inviting them all onto this cruise. If I’d known that he was going to murder them…I wouldn’t have done so. When he made me mad about not giving me the money I wanted I went off and told one of the guys that Carm was on the cruise too but I guess he didn’t have enough time to flee.”

I sat there, listening to everything that he was telling me. It all made so much sense now.

“Now,” Junhyung said. “Mind telling me how all the murders was committed?”

I cleared my throat. “1st one was a simple stab. Same with the second, only the corpse was publically dramatized to gain attention. He purposely made himself seem like you, to obviously frame you for the crime.”

“And how did he do that?”

“Masks, makeup, face molds. It would’ve been an easy process for any criminal. Third victim was poisoned. Carm probably went into your room and grabbed a water bottle that you’d touched and planted it on the victim’s possession.”

Junhyung clapped. “Well done, Detective Conan.”

I grinned at his remark but my smile faded away as I came to a sudden realization. “Wait, but you said that there were 4 guys who’d murdered his family. 3 were already exterminated. So that means…”

Junhyung nodded. “There’s one more left.”

“Do you know him? What he looks like? Where he’s staying?” I questioned.

“I only know his name. We don’t even know if it’s his real name,” Junhyung replied.

            “What is it?”

            “Saul Clim.”

I grabbed his hand and pulled him up. “C’mon let’s go.”

            “Wait, where?”

I looked back at him. “Are you crazy? The guy could be in real danger right now! And where the last victim is…the assailant would be close behind…we can catch him if we find Saul.”

            “Wait, but—

            “But what?” I asked.

Junhyung bit his lip. “I can’t go out; the policemen are looking for me. We’ll be delayed and word would get out that we know something that they don’t.”

“Just wear sunglasses and a hat. Here, I’ll lend you Doojoon’s.”

I went over to Doojoon’s suitcase and searched around for a suitable disguise. I came across a and looked at it in disgust.

“Why the would my older brother bring this on a cruise?” I asked myself, sliding it aside.

            Junhyung laughed behind me.

In disguise, he and I headed out of my cabin and out to the information desk.

“Excuse me,” I said, keeping my voice low. “Where is Saul Clim staying?”

The information desk lady glared at me. “I’m sorry but we are not authorized to reveal such information.”

            .

Junhyung cleared his throat and lowered his glasses so that his beautiful eyes were visible to the lady. “Please? We really, really need it,” he said softly, yet gently.

The lady was phased and nodded, as if in a trance. “S-Sure. Room E156.”

            Junhyung winked. “Thanks.”

As the two of us jogged away I couldn’t help but say, “Flirt.”

Junhyung grinned. “Don’t hate just because you’re jealous of my skills.”

I smiled, rolling my eyes at the same time.

The smiley mood was soon pulled away as Junhyung and I reached room E156 to find the door already slightly open.

            .

Junhyung cautiously opened the door a bit wider and the both of us stepped inside. The both of us then saw Carm, knelt beside a dead body. I saw a skull tattoo on the dead man’s arm, and immediately knew that we’d been too late. He’d already been murdered.

But the murderer was still unaware of the fact that other people were in the room.

I slowly took out my camera. With the snap of the shutter the murderer had been caught red handed.

Problem is, I hadn’t turned off my flash.

Such a simple mistake could yet be so fatal to one’s life.

Carm immediately turned around to see Junhyung and me, and his eyes balled up in fury at seeing witnesses.

At that instant, the ship suddenly rocked forward and Junhyung and I fell to the ground at the sudden shake. It’d felt like an earthquake, a short one at the least.

            But it’d been no earthquake.

The both of us had no time to think about this sudden bump as the two of us made a mad dash for the door. Carm was even faster and blocked us. He pulled out a switchblade and pointed it at Junhyung.

            “You,” he snarled.

            “Me,” Junhyung replied.

Carm smirked and suddenly grabbed me, pulling his arm around my neck as he threatened to slice my throat.

“If you…dare to make another step…” Carm tightened his grip on my neck. “She’s dead.”

Junhyung looked at me in panic, and back at Carm. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” he mumbled.

“Sweetie,” Carm hissed into my ear. “Give me your camera and I’ll let you go without harm, okay?”

            “No,” I snapped. “Never.”

            He tightened his hold.

“Stop,” Junhyung barked. “Stop, right now!”

“Just tell your little girlfriend to hand me her camera and all will be well,” Carm said greasily.

Junhyung looked at me and we met eyes. We were both thinking the same thing.

“Ready?” Junhyung’s eyes said to me.

            “Ready.”

I bit Carm’s hand and during the few milliseconds that he was weak, Junhyung made a move for it and kicked the knife out of his hand. I felt it scrape my face as he did, but the minimal pain I felt was worth it for the escape. Carm was momentarily knocked down and Junhyung grabbed my wrist as he pulled me to my feet.

            “_______ let’s go!”

Junhyung and I dashed out of the room and down the hall. But something felt off with the flooring, it was as if it was tilted a bit. Suddenly I heard shouts from the other cabins.

            “The ship is sinking!”

“Hurry up and pack your stuff!”

            “Head out to the lifeboats!”

“ the ship is sinking?!” I cried out.

“Must’ve hit something while we were in the room,” Junhyung said through his breaths. He looked back and stopped. “This is bad.”

“What? What’s wrong?” I asked, stopping beside him.

            “We need to go back.”

            “What?! Are you crazy?!”

“We need to! Even if we have pictorial evidence, it’s no use if Carm gets away and escapes. We need to leave this ship with him in our possession.”

Junhyung and I ran back to the cabin room, only to find the dead man. The murderer had disappeared.

“, we’re screwed,” Junhyung said in panic. “______, go down to the lifeboats, I’m gonna go look for him.”

            “No, I’m coming with you.”

            “_______, no.”

I stepped up. “Yes, I am. Wherever you go, I’m going with you.”

            “You’re so freakin stubborn.”

“Is it that bad that I want to be with you? We’re in this together, Yong Junhyung,” I said.

Junhyung stared at me, and the both of us knew that time was ticking. Suddenly he grabbed my wrist and pulled me forward and his lips met mine. He kissed me and my eyes widened. His lips were soft against mine and I couldn’t help but get lost in the moment. When he pulled away I felt breathless.

“W-What was that for?” I asked.

“I might never have a chance to do that again,” Junhyung replied softly.

“What are you talking about? We’re not going to die!” I exclaimed.

Junhyung smiled. “Thank you ______, for always being by my side.”

I smiled back at him. “No need to say thanks. Now let’s go.”

“Captain, is everyone on the lifeboats?”

“Looks like not. There’s 3 missing, including that missing passenger.”

Doojoon’s eyes widened. “_______ and Junhyung.”

            “What son?” Detective Yoon asked.

“_______ and Junhyung, they’re still inside the ship. We need to go find them!” Doojoon said.

“What are they still doing in there? Are they crazy?!” Mrs. Yoon exclaimed.

“They’re catching Carm, that’s what they’re doing. I need to get outta here I’ll be right back-

“Son. It’s okay.” Detective Yoon looked up at the sinking ship. “I have a feeling that they’ll find their way out of there.”
