Meet and Greet

“Just a little bit more. Come on, stretch…” thought Sunny. “If only I were just a little bit taller, I wouldn’t have such problems. Maybe hopping will do the trick.”

Hop. Hop.

Argh. The manager must be making fun of me. Getting me to put cds up on this high shelf is a joke!

Hop.

The cd was snatched from my hand. “WAH?” I yelped in surprise. I turned around to see where my cd went and saw a smirking girl waving the cd in her hand.

Jessica Jung. What is she doing here?

“May I have the cd please?” I asked her politely even though I had this feeling that she wasn’t going to be very nice to me again.

“Shorty,” said Jessica with a smirk and put the cd onto the top shelf with ease.

“I know I’m short. I get that a lot. Thanks for helping me though,” I replied curtly, although I did not feel hurt by her comment. All my life, I’ve had to deal with jokes related to my height. By now, I had become immune to such jokes and they no longer hurt me like they did in the past when I was a kid. In fact, sometimes I joked about it myself! However, I wasn’t too pleased about her comment because I had spied her killer heels. They were at least four inches!

So I turned away and bent down to pick up the box of cds that needed to be put on the shelves. Then, I walked back to the cashier’s counter to get more cds to shelf. And for some reason, she followed me.

“Why are you following me?” I asked her, feeling rather uncomfortable with her around me. She was so unpredictable.

“I need some assistance from you.”

“What?”

“Why are you surprised? You work here, don’t you?”

“U-uh, yeah. Mmm, so how may I help you?”

“I’m looking for a cd.”

“Which one?”

“I’m looking for the Girls’ Generation cd. I heard the song “Ooh La La” and I’m totally in love with it now.”

“Oh? That’s my favourite song too! She actually likes the same song as I do? Yucks.” I grimaced at the thought.

She saw my face and said, “Do you have a problem with my taste in music? Even if you do, you don’t have to show it you know.”

“H-huh? Oh, er, no I wasn’t – I mean, it wasn’t about your taste in music.”

Feeling flustered, I led her to the Korean pop section and showed her where the cd was.

“It’s selling really well. I have to restock the shelves ever so often. We’re running out of stocks soon so it’s a good thing you are buying it now.”

“Thanks.”

I watched as she walked out of the shop after paying for the cd. There was something about her that made me feel queasy.

She’s beautiful, smells like Estee Lauder’s Sensuous. On top of that, she has a great figure and a breath-taking smile but why is she so cold?

Knowing that I wouldn’t know the answer anytime soon, I shrugged my shoulders and got back to work.

“Oh bother, I have to put three more cds on that top shelf! SIGH. I wish she’d helped me put a couple more cds while she was at it. Oh well…” I sighed.

Hop. Hop. HOP.

I decided to go to the music store to buy the Girls’ Generation cd. That “Ooh La La” song was so good that it was driving me nuts. I especially loved the girl who sang the English parts.

“Ooh La-la! Ooh what a feeling ~”
 

I couldn’t help but to sing along happily.

I left the house after putting on my favourite scent and taking a quick look at myself in the mirror.

And it wasn’t too long till I got to the music store. I told my chauffeur to drop me off and come back to pick me up in twenty minutes.

As I stepped into Music Island, the biggest music store in town, I saw the new girl. I was surprised to see her working.

Why is she working on a weekend? Isn’t her family filthy rich? She’s odd alright.

She was hopping like a bunny, trying to get the cd onto the top shelf. I felt like laughing out loud at that sight but I held it in. I walked towards her and stopped just behind her. She was so engrossed in her work that she did not notice my presence at all. As she hopped, her hair brushed past my nose and I got a whiff of her shampoo scent.

“What a cozy smell,” I thought. “Cozy?!” I questioned my own description of the smell. She hopped again. This time, I snatched the cd out of her outstretched hand as she landed. She spun round to face me and I couldn’t help but to smirk at her comical look.

“Shorty,” I teased and put the cd on the shelf for added effect. I felt strangely satisfied seeing her perplexed face. I wanted to see more of that face so I decided to pester her a little longer and asked her to look for the cd that I wanted.

“I’m looking for the Girls’ Generation cd. I heard the song “Ooh La La” and I’m totally in love with it now,” I heard myself say.

WHAT? Did I just tell her that I like “Ooh La La”?! Why did I say that?! Gosh, that’s embarrassing and it’s ruining my cool, cold image!

Noticing her grimace, I felt irritated. “Does she not like the song? Why?”

“Do you have a problem with my taste in music? Even if you do, you don’t have to show it you know,” I blurted.

Gosh. I’m talking way too much now. I better shut up and just pay for the cd.

She got me the cd and chatted with me in a bubbly manner that was very cute but all I allowed myself to say was thanks. I hastily paid for the cd and left, not wanting to embarrass myself any further. And as I was waiting for my chauffeur to arrive, I glanced back into the shop and saw her hopping again.

I couldn’t stop laughing to myself. And I was still laughing when my chauffeur arrived.

“Who made our dear Jessica laugh so happily today?” he asked.

“Oh… it’s nothing,” I replied with a wave, “Let’s go home now.”

He nodded and started driving.
