Chapter 5

A Mate's Struggle

Youngjae woke to Jinhong's snoring the next morning, grumbling and rolling over and into Jooheon as he did so. Jooheon rolled away and off the bed, grunting at the impact. He sat up, rubbing the back of his head as he looked at Youngjae. "Sorry," muttered Youngjae. "Was woken up by someone's snoring," he said. Jooheon nodded and got back into bed, sighing.

Kisu turned around in bed to face Youngjae and Jooheon. "Sorry, he couldn't sleep alone," he said. "I figured," said Youngjae. "Both his mates are gone," he said. "It'd be natural for him to find company with someone in the pack," he said.

"Whatever you three are talking about woke me up," grumbled Jinhong as he sat up. Kisu rolled over onto his back and turned his head to look at Jinhong. "Sorry," he said. "Was talking about you," he said. "Oh," said Jinhong as he sighed. "I can't help it," he said. "I explained that to them," said Kisu. "No judging there?" Asked Jinhong. Kisu shook his head no. "You're good," he said, sitting up.

"So, who's turn is it to make breakfast?" He asked, repeating it in English. "Erm," said Youngjae. "Yours I think?" He asked. Jinhong shrugs. "I think it was yours," he said. "I think checking the fridge would do us some good," said Jooheon as he got up, stretching. "Well, if it's my turn I'm taking us out for some pho," said Kisu. "What's that?" Asked Youngjae. "Vietnamese noodle soup, it's really filling," said Kisu.

"Oh yeah, there's that new place that opened up at the street market," said Jinhong as he got up. "Let's go see who's making breakfast," he said before leaving the room. Kisu shook his head and got up, following after him. Youngjae and Jooheon soon followed, curious of who'd be cooking today.

"Well, looks like it's my turn," said Kisu. "That's it, we're going to get pho," he said. "Go get dressed and meet me by the door in 10 minutes," he said. Everyone scrambled to get ready, Kisu going to grab his phone and a change of clothes before going into the bathroom to change.

Ten minutes later everyone met at the front door with Kisu grabbing the key to the house and his wallet. They headed down to the street market after Kisu locked the door to the house.

"Which one looks good?" Asked Youngjae as they found a table to sit around once they reached the restaurant. "I usually just get the plain meatballs but you can get whatever," said Kisu. "I like seafood," Jinhong said in English. "The seafood special?" Asked Youngjae. Jinhong nodded.

"We're gonna have to pay in cash too," said Kisu. "Which is why I brought my wallet along," he said. "Jeonguk always trusted you with the cash," Jinhong said with a snort. Kisu chuckled. "What'd he say?" Asked Youngjae. "He's jealous that Jeonguk trusts me with any cash," said Kisu. Jooheon chuckled some. They ordered their bowls of pho and got their drinks.

"Well," said Kisu as he got a text. "They made it," he said, showing a selfie he had been sent from Jeonguk showing that he was with Seungkwan and Vernon with Changsun in the background. "That's good," said Youngjae. "Now they'll be there for a week before coming back," said Kisu.

"They should've brought me along," grumbled Jinhong. "Hey," said Kisu as he gave a concerned look. "Don't act like that, I'm sure they had their reason for just the both of them going," he said. "I know I know," said Jinhong as he sighed. "I'm just jealous," he said. Kisu chuckled some. "It's alright to be jealous," he said. "I guess," said Jinhong.

Their food arrived and everyone started eating, getting their drinks. "Wow, the seafood special is good," said Youngjae. Jinhong beamed before going back to eating his food. "This is good," said Jooheon.

"Was this the noodle place you took Hobi and his team to?" Asked Jinhong. "No," said Kisu. "I took them to the ramen place they thought looked good, I should've taken them here," he said, chuckling some. "I would've beat you to it if we weren't busy with stuff," Junhong said with a chuckle. "No way," said Kisu. "Not with these two anyway," he said, nodding to Youngjae and Jooheon.

"What are you two talking about now?" Asked Youngjae. "You know how competitive we get when it comes to finding new places to eat at," said Kisu. "Oh yeah," said Jooheon. "We would've definitely beat everyone to this place," he said.

"What are we doing now?" Asked Youngjae as they finished eating. "I don't know," said Kisu. "What do you want to do?" He asked Jinhong, who shrugs. "I don't know," he said. "I guess we can go to the mall or something," he said. "I wanted to see if the new Nintendo 3ds games hit the stores yet here," he said. Kisu hummed in response as he tilted his head to the side. "I guess," he said.

"Where are we going?" Asked Youngjae. "To the mall," said Kisu. "Jinhong is the only one here who is really into playing video games and he wants to see if there's any new games out for the system he has," he said. "Oh, sure," said Youngjae. Jooheon nodded. "Yeah we can do that," he said. "Alright, let's go then," said Kisu. They all left, heading to the nearest mall.

They stood outside the game store as Jinhong ran inside to check the newest games in stock for the 3DS, making sure to keep things within budget as he looked around. Kisu mentioned that they were running low on money again but he was sure that when Jeonguk and Changsun returned they'd have a little bit more money to work with until Hongseob returned from Italy.

"All the games were expensive," Jinhong said with a pout as he came outside. "We'll get it for Christmas," said Kisu as he tousled Jinhong's hair. "Granted we have enough in our budget by then," he said. "We will, hopefully," said Jinhong. "I think you said Italy was a big paycheck for hunters," he said. "Yeah," said Kisu.

"He couldn't get it?" Asked Youngjae. "Not enough in the budget it seems," said Kisu. "If we had the money we would buy it for you but," Youngjae said, sighing a bit. Jinhong shook his head. "We'll get what I want for Christmas, it's okay," he said with Kisu translating. "Okay," said Jooheon.

"Let's go home then," said Kisu as he headed home with the others following after him.

They spent the rest of the afternoon playing cards, with Kisu teaching them how to play a game that literally translated to the name "Dummy." Suffice to say, Jinhong had a decent poker face and kept winning with Kisu coming in second and Youngjae having the worst poker face ever.

"I win," said Jinhong as he threw down his matches. "Damn," said Kisu as he threw down his cards. "Man," said Youngjae and Jooheon as they sighed. "We need a new game," said Jooheon. "Blackjack, let's go," said Kisu as he grabbed the deck and started shuffling the cards.
