Ch.35
Where the Lonely Ones RoamWhen Heechul returned home from the meeting with Dr. Jongwoon, he was pleased to see that Leeteuk was back from picking up Eunhyuk and Henry who had been staying home alone all week. He locked his white Suburban and made his way towards the front porch, careful not to slip on the wet leaves that covered the ground, and grimaced at the fact that it was still raining. As he entered the house, shutting the door behind him and taking off his shoes, he couldn’t help but think that the kids weren’t going to be able to go trick-or-treating this year.
Heechul slid out of his jacket and hung it up in the hall closet, glancing into the living room to see if anyone was in there. “Guys, I’m home now!” He called out loudly, announcing his presence.
When no answer came, he walked around the house in search of his beloved children but found not a single one of them, not even Kibum who always came running at the sound of his voice. Curious to know where everyone was, he headed up to his bedroom where he found his boyfriend sitting at the head of the bed with a serious expression strewn across his face as he looked through the pile of pamphlets that Dr. Choi had sent home with them. Heechul shuffled into the room, smiling softly when Leeteuk glanced up momentarily and jumped slightly in surprise.
“Oh, you startled me,” Leeteuk said, chuckling lightly. He patted the spot on the bed next to him, wanting Heechul to come look over the different facilities that they needed to inquire about. “How did the meeting with Dr. Choi go, babe?”
Heechul settled beside him, leaning over to give him a kiss on the cheek. “Well, it turns out that Dr. Choi took a job in London and the nurse that Kibum likes so much is actually a doctor who is taking over the psychiatric unit as the head psychologist. He said that Choi was so hot to close out all his cases before leaving that he just diagnosed Kibum with the first mental disordered that seemed to fit close enough with all of his issues.”
Leeteuk looked up from the booklet he was skimming through, looking rather incredulous. “That’s kind of ridiculous. I mean, I knew that Kibum being schizophrenic didn’t add up, but that is so terrible that his doctor would have let him go through life being labeled as such. So what did this new doctor have to say about Kibum?”
“He said that although Kibum is trouble, taking him back to a family therapist would be fine,” Heechul informed him as he reached out to scatter the pamphlets and booklets across the bed so they could see them all. “Basically we can have Kibum return to weekly sessions with Jia or allow Dr. Jongwoon to start handling his case. The thing is, he said that he strongly recommends that we have Kibum spend some time in one of these institutions that specialize in adolescent behavior therapy. He would get one on one attention with professionals that could really help him sort through all the issues he has.”
“Well, that’s what I’ve been saying all week. It seems as if this doctor shares the same opinions as we do,” Leeteuk said with an appreciative nod, handing Heechul the booklet he had just finished looking through. “I’m not saying that we send Kibum away for a long time or even that we do it all, just that it would be best to have something set up in case he has one of those violent breakdowns again.”
“I agree completely,” Heechul said, making a face as the booklet and tossing it onto the floor. “I want to start touring a couple of these places. I have the case folder from the hospital with all of the reports and notes regarding Kibum, but I think we should call around to the last two therapists to see if they will send us a copy of their reports. Then I want to set up an appointment with Jia to get a second opinion, let her talk professionally with Kibum and assess him, then she can make her own report that we can add to the pile.”
Leeteuk nodded absentmindedly, throwing another pamphlet onto the floor in the rejection pile. “Some of these places look like prisons. If we ever have to send Kibum away again, I want him to go somewhere where there is a large outdoor space. He told me that he only got to go outside for an hour each day, just as if he were in prison. Oh, look at this one; it’s hardly twenty minutes from my house and – what the hell?”
Heechul leaned over to take a look, instantly understanding what the big deal was. He frowned deeply, squinting at the photographs in the book. “I mean, it’s kind of cool if you like the whole underground bunker scene. Actually, it’s kind of really cool. These rooms are incredible even though there are hardly any windows. And look, it’s on a couple acres of land.”
“I like this one, let’s fill out the application and call to set up a tour,” Leeteuk said with a nod, tearing out the application in the back of the book. “Here, I’ll fill it out if you keep looking through the rest of them.”
The room went silent except for the sound of papers shuffling and pen scraping against the application form. Every now and then they
