Ch.2
Where the Lonely Ones RoamThe news about him going back home had spread like wildfire and within two days everybody in the family knew about it. He’d received multiple sympathy texts and phone calls offering to help in any way he needed. Heechul was being lenient about his chores, which he was grateful for since in a couple days he would be doing the ultimate chore of all time. Leeteuk had even called to say that he was coming this weekend with the boys to support him. He appreciated the amount of love that they showed him but he didn’t like that they all knew he was going through something. They would whisper about it behind closed doors and send him scrutinizing looks.
Even now as he sat in the living room blankly staring at the television he could feel a pair of eyes on him. He knew it was Donghae and sent him an annoyed look before turning away and wrapping his arms around himself. Out of all the members of his family, Donghae was the last person he wanted to talk to. There was this unspoken agreement between them to avoid the subject of Kibum’s family and former life. He’d cracked last winter and confided in his brother about his suspicions regarding his parents but nothing had come of it, thankfully. He wanted it to stay that way.
“Stop watching me,” Kibum grumbled when the television switched to a commercial. He rolled over to look at Donghae face to face. “Seriously, I’m fine.”
Donghae scoffed and moved to sit next to him. “Sure you are. That’s why I practically had to drag you home out of that storm the other day.”
“I was still processing then,” Kibum argued uncomfortably. He really didn’t want to talk about this with Donghae, it made him really uncomfortable. “Can we please not talk about this? I really don’t want to talk about it.”
Donghae shrugged and let the subject drop.
Kibum sighed unhappily and got up to leave. He went into the kitchen and grabbed a couple moon cakes from the snack cabinet before exiting the house. He closed the front door behind him, praying that no one followed him out there, and went over to the swing to eat in peace. He opened the first one and took a bite, closing his eyes and sighing once again.
For some reason he hadn’t been feeling like a complete basket case. Ever since that day he hadn’t felt much of anything regarding the situation. It was annoying mostly because no one would leave him alone. In all honestly he just sort of felt numb. He just didn’t care all that much. There wasn’t anything he could do about the situation anyway. In all honestly he just wanted to sleep until it was all over but Heechul wouldn’t let him stay in his room all day.
