The Gender Exchange (Part 1)

Beyond Words

SummaryWhat would happen when Tiffany enters a boys school to meet Jesse Jung?
Disclaimer: Jessica is a male in this fic!

Tiffany Hwang did it.

She managed to enter an all boys school without getting caught.

But obviously not with her long hair.

She was standing in front of the school with an official letter in her hand, identity of her twin brother who decided to skip school to play in a band.

Did she mention the word twin?

She wore a pair of jeans, a loose shirt ,which was obviously way too big for her, a tight band wrapped around her chest and a wig on her head.

And all this was just to meet her favourite soccer star, Jesse Jung.

She remembered how she practically went mad when she found out her twin brother was posted to the school.

"Oh my G- DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU'RE POSTED TO?!"

"Uh," Her brother was confused. Was his sister suffering from short term memory? He thought he had mentioned it about thirty seconds ago, and there was was, asking him where he was posted to? So he repeated himself and clarified his doubt.

"I thought I just said Soshi High?" He paused, lifted his right hand and placed it on her forehead, "Are you sick or what?"

Tiffany only rolled her eyes in response and slapped his hand away.

"I know that you're posted to Soshi High! I'm not suffering from short term memory okay?"

"Then why are you asking me again?"

"BECAUSE JESSE JUNG IS IN YOUR SCHOOL! HOW COULD YOU NOT KNOW THAT? THE FAMOUS JESSE JUNG!"

"Uh-huh,"

Tiffany was shocked. Her brother doesn't care that he is in the same school as Jesse Jung? THE Jesse Jung? She copied her brother's earlier action, now placing her hand on his forehead.

"Are you sick?"

"Wh-what are you talking about?" Now it was his turn to slap her hand away.

"HOW CAN YOU NOT GET EXCITED ABOUT THIS?! IT'S INSANE! JUST IMAGINE BEING IN THE SAME ROOM AS HIM!"

"Just to be clear, I'm not excited because I'm a guy, and he is a guy. Guy and guy can't get married you idiot. And secondly, I'm not going to school,"

"WHAT? WHY?"

"Because I'm going to America to make music!"

"Make music? Dad is going to be furious when he hears about this,"

"And that's why you're going to school for me,"

"WHAT?!"

"That's right, you heard me,"

"So I'm going in as you while you're off to America in some stupid band, only to realise that chasing such dream is stupid?"

"HEY HEY HEY, WATCH WHAT YOU'RE SAYING! Making music is not stupid!"

"It is, considering the fact that many bands have failed there,"

"I'm telling you, I will succeed. Besides, isn't liking your all famous Jesse Jung a stupid dream too? " He didn't forget to mimic the way Tiffany's eyes turned dreamy whenever the name Jesse Jung pops up in a conversation.

"It's not stupid okay! I know one day he will fall for me too!"

"And that's why you should come over and replace me so that you can win over Mr Jesse Jung," With that, he turned the brunette around to face his closet.

He then leaned forward and whispered into her ear, "Help yourself, I have many clothes in there and I'm sure you will find something to your taste,"

Patting her on the back, he straightened his back and proceeded to walk out of the room, only to be stopped when Tiffany suddenly shouted, "THEN WHAT ABOUT MY SCHOOL?"

He turned to the side and grinned, "I've already settled that for you,"

Tiffany frowned. And he knew she was waiting for him to continue.

"Let's just say I told the principal that you ate the wrong beef," He snickered at the thought and walked away quickly, knowing that his sister would burst out anytime.

"YOU WHAT?!"

So all thanks to her stupid brother, she had nowhere else to go besides Soshi High, a principal who now thought she had mad cow disease and a father who questions her about her sudden boyish appearance and also about the disappearance of her brother. Which resulted in her lying through her perfect set of teeth.

But there is always two sides to a coin. Despite her brother who brought her so much trouble, she had to also credit him for giving her an opportunity to meet the famous Jesse Jung. And also for how his plan worked out nicely.

That's what she didn't understand. Leo is smart, no, Leo is brilliant. He always ends up topping his class, or sometimes even cohort. Yet, he chose to be in a band, which could possibly fail.

What a stupid decision.

Then Tiffany realises she has another problem. She is not as smart as her brother. How was she going to keep up with her work?

Darn it, she curses mentally.

She was about to call her brother to scold him for executing such an idiotic plan when suddenly, someone ran past her, shouting his lungs out while chasing the people to the field.

It took Tiffany quite a while to understand and register what he was saying.

"The match is about to start!"

She wasted no more time and followed the crowd.

-

And she was glad that she did.

She saw him, and swore that even when sweat was stuck to his face, he glowed.

Everything about him was great. How his blonde hair was wet and clumped together, how his shirt was sticking onto him because of the perspiration, how he opens his mouth slightly to pant. He just gives out some kind of aura. And Tiffany was sure that she wasn't the only one who felt that way as she furrowed her eyebrows at the sight of girls from the neighbouring schools, gripping tightly onto the fence that barricades the soccer field with their mouths opened widely and saliva flowing down. They were drooling over Jesse Jung. And Tiffany Hwang was upset.

So she did what a normal fangirl would do, or in her case fanboy. She marched straight up to the group of young desperate ladies and chided them.

"Don't you have a school to go to?"

Seeing that someone senior caught them in the act of ogling, they hurriedly scrambled off, some cursing when they heard the school bell go.

", NOT DETENTION AGAIN!"

-

After the match was over, yes Jesse's team won again, Tiffany rushed to the general office, realising that she forgot to report for her first day at Soshi High. Well, let's just say she was too engrossed watching Jesse Jung the match.

"Good morning, this is my first day at school and I was told to report here,"

"Ah yes, the new student, Leo Hwang,"

"Y-yeah th-that's right," She wasn't used to lying and she admits that she kind of got confused when her brother's name was called.

"Uh okay," The lady oddly looked at her for a moment before bending over to take a set of keys and some paper.

"Here is your keys to the dormitory and here is the timetable,"

"Thanks!"

"Have fun in school!"

She had doubts about it.

If only she knew that..

-

"I'M IN THE SAME ROOM AS YOU?"

The blonde raised her eyebrows at Tiffany's outburst.

But before the blonde even said anything, Tiffany rushed out of the room and leaned against the door. Holding up the timetable, she folded it into half before fanning herself with it, hoping that it would calm her down.

"Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, oh my goodness.." She couldn't help but repeat herself.

JESSE JUNG IS MY ROOMMATE!

JESSE JUNG IS MY ROOMMATE!!

JESSE JUNG IS MY ROOMMATE!!!

oh my god.

And she fainted.

-

The young girl opened up her eyes to find herself lying on a soft bed. She turned to her right to find a handsome blonde typing on his laptop.

Then it hit her, she was in her room. Memories started coming back and she flushed when she realised that she had fainted right outside the room. How stupid she must have loo-

"Hey, you okay?"

Her movements had made the bed creak and it caught Jesse's attention. So he turned around to check up on the younger girl, amusedly watching how she buried her face in her palms and how red her cheeks were. Holding back his smile, he asked a question that a person would normally ask when a previously unconscious person wakes up. But also normally, he would have expected an answer, it need not be a verbal response, a nod would be fine, a shake of the head would be alright as well, but a longing stare wasn't exactly what he had in mind.

So he repeated himself, "Er, are you okay?"

Tiffany had to snap out of her trance. She stared blankly at how sharp his nose was, how his mouth was a perfect line, how long his eyelashes were, how muscular he wa-

Then she felt a warm hand on her head. The soft skin on her ow-

"Are you still sick?"

His face was right in front of hers and she blushed. She blushed real deeply.

"N-n-n-no," He raised his eyebrows for the second time at her before taking his hands off her face and walking back to his seat.

"That's good to hear,"

But he was quite affected. It made him confused as to how a guy's skin could be so soft and not to mention how a guy's body could be so light and flabby. Okay, flabby wasn't the right word to describe his new roommate, but he swore the brunette didn't have any muscles.

Thinking about it, he decided not be so such a busybody as he continued with his assignment that was due the next day.

As for Tiffany, she closed her eyes and smiled.

It was the start of a new journey for the both of them.

-

Tiffany has a habit of waking up early. So she stood up from the bed, and looked over to the other side of the room. Jesse was still sleeping and he looks gorgeous. She stared for a while, and unknowingly as the clock ticked, ", I'm running out of time!"

So she hurriedly rushed around the bedroom to gather all her stuff, and all the racket made the blonde stir. But she didn't care, because she was running late, and luckily for her, Jesse fell right back into sleep.

As the brunette rushed into the toilet, she gasped. She had to cover with both of her hands to stop herself from screaming.

Everyone was bathing out in the open and nobody had the decency to even use a small piece of cloth to cover their private parts. But then again, they were bathing, so who would even cover? So she mentally chided those who were walking around, clean, but stark .

She hurriedly close her eyes and ran out, earning odd looks from the boys who were inside, watching her.

The first place she ran to was obviously back into her room and the slamming of the door woke Jesse up.

"Urgh, what is it now?" He was obviously irritated with anyone who disturbed his sleep. Besides being the soccer prince, he was also known as the sleeping prince. Mainly because he slept way too much, much more than an average person.

He opened his eyes only to find Tiffany trembling against the door, obviously in fright. His eyes softened at the sight as he made his way towards her and asked, "Are you okay?", which was odd because he realised that he had asked the same question twice the day before.

Seems like my new roommate is a wimpy kid.

But before he knew it, Tiffany threw herself on him and hugged him tightly. She leaned her head on his chest and Jesse  realised, HE IS SO SMALL SIZED.

Despite not being able to bathe in the morning, Tiffany's head smelt great, at least to Jesse. The smell came from her, but it seemed to be coming from under her hair. He frowned at it. His roommate was definitely very weird.

Jesse didn't hug back, of course. But he willingly let himself get squashed under Tiffany's hold.  That is before she realised something poking her from below. She gently pushed herself off her chest and looked down. Noticing something bulging out from Jesse's pants, she blushed again in front of him, realising what it was.

Jesse himself had also blushed and turned away. Not wanting to embarrassed himself further, he mumbled, "I'll be going to the washroom," and the moment his foot stepped out of the door, Tiffany could hear him sprinting down to the toilet.

What a bad day for her.

But Jesse was cute, she smiled. Until images of men from the toilet incident started flooding her mind again. She shook her head to rid off the thoughts and she ran over to her bed to pack her bag.

I'm late for class!

While putting on her shoes, she noticed that she was still in her pajamas.

"!"

And I forgot to brush my teeth.

-

"Sorry I'm late! I got lost!" Tiffany bowed ninety degrees before earning a chuckle from the teacher.

"It's definitely a rare side to see boys so polite, isn't it so Jesse? "

He rolled his eyes. He hated this stupid professor who just keeps on picking on him for no apparent reason, it was especially odd because Jesse topped the cohort for this subject. He should be the teacher's pet, not enemy.

"Pick your seat, Mr Leo. We'll be starting class soon so hurry and settle down,"

"Thank you!" Tiffany picked up her pace as she settled down next to Jesse. She was about to remove her backpack when the professor spoke up.

"I suggest not sitting with Mr Jung. But then again, he probably needs someone to constantly wake him up. So unless you don't mind being Mr Jung's personal human clock, I suggest you switch seats, "

Tiffany watched Jesse scowl in indignation, but held back his temper by placing his head on the table. She could hear him curse in English and she was surprised. He knew English? She probably didn't know that he was one of the top few students for English as well.

She had a lot of learn about him.

-

Halfway during the lesson, she noticed a paper ball thrown onto her desk. Curious, she picked it up and turned around to see who threw it, the person would probably be staring at her right now. After glancing around, she noticed a guy, also quite a good looker, eyeing her with his big eyes, asking her to open it up.

So she straightened the crumpled paper and speed read.

Hi I'm Kim Taeyeon, so you're the new kid that everyone is talking about? I heard that you're good at singing. Interested in joining choir? The tryouts starts today ^^

She smiled. The people here were generally quite friendly. Okay, only Kim Taeyeon was friendly. But at least he made Tiffany felt welcomed. So she picked up a pen and wrote on the same piece of paper, before throwing backwards, unknowingly hitting Taeyeon on the head.

"Ouch!"

"Mr Kim Taeyeon! " Tiffany looked behind and saw Taeyeon rubbing his head. Mouthing a sorry, she saw Taeyeon smile back at her and the professor's frown deepened.

"MR KIM TAEYEON, OUT!" Tiffany couldn't help but feel sorry for him. It was her fault. So she pouted a little and turned back to face the front, glancing out of the classroom every now and then to check on Taeyeon.

She failed to notice Jesse looking at her, with creasing eyebrows.

-

"Hey, I'm really sorry! I should have seen where I was throwing!"

"Come on, it's okay! His lesson was boring anyway! Besides, I shouldn't have thrown you the paper ball in the first place,"

Despite it being true, the brunette still felt guilty. So Taeyeon insisted on her joining him for lunch in order to make up for her mistake.

"So have you decided whether you wanted to join choir?"

Honestly, she didn't mind. She liked singing. The musical inclination probably runs in her family. Her brother wanting to be a singer in a band, her father used to play for a band, her mother was an ex-soloist.

But  she also wanted to join soccer.  She couldn't play sports for nuts, but she didn't mind being the water girl. At least she got to see her Jesse Jung in action.

"Is it possible to join two clubs?"

Taeyeon was greatly surprised. No one in their right mind would want to join two clubs, unless they were nerds and preferred staying in school instead of spending their free time outside of school. And Tiffany didn't seem like such a nerd to him.

"Why would you want to do that?"

"Because I really, really want to join soccer too!"

"But the soccer tryouts isn't easy,"

"I don't mind being the water gir-boy," She faked a laughter to cover up for her slip.

Taeyeon lowered her eyelids and stared at Tiffany. She gulped. Was her identity discovered?

"It is because of Jesse Jung isn't it? You must be one of those soccer fanatics!"

Relieved, because she knew that Taeyeon doesn't know it yet. So she laughed it off.

"Yeah! You're right. I just wanted to see the famous Jesse Jung in action!"

"I see. But you're interested in joining choir right?"

"Of course, I love singing,"

"That's great! I'll audition you at 4! Let's go get some lunch first. I'm starving,"

-

During lunch, she was introduced to a group of friends.  She couldn't help but felt surprised when Jesse showed up at the same table. So he knew Taeyeon?

"-and this is Sooyoung, Choi Sooyoung. Lastly, moving on to your favourite idol, the famous Jesse Jung,"

Tiffany blushed for the fourth time and she wondered how many more times  was she going to blush in front of Jesse.

"Everyone, this is Leo Hwang! Let's welcome him!"

Tiffany choked on her water when the name Leo was mentioned. She put on a smile, nodding her head in response. Jesse noticed it but kept quiet.

Being one of the top students in school, it wasn't difficult to piece the pieces up together - Leo was a girl. It seems absurd, he knew. And that was why he was going to test his hypothesis out. He wanted answers.

-

The choir tryout was a success. Tiffany managed to blow Taeyeon away with her powerful voice and not to mention beautiful eyesmile.

So now she was back at the dorm, packing her stuff because she failed to do so on the first day because of - okay, she doesn't want to get reminded of it. Luckily for her, Jesse was in the room with her and she could ogle at him while packing her stuff.

"So I heard you were great at the choir tryouts today," He tried starting a conversation with her.

"I- I guess,"

I've got to stop stuttering.

"That's good to hear,"

There was an awkward silence after that and the only thing that could be heard was the sound caused by the friction of Jesse's pencil against a piece of paper.

So Tiffany cleared and asked, "When are the soccer tryouts?"

"You're interested in joining soccer?" He swiveled his chair around to face her. His expression was one of surprised. Scratch that, it was one of shock. From what he remembered, this kid here had absolutely no muscles at all, extremely small sized for a boy and was so light that a slight wind would just sweep him away. Unless he was a girl, his reasoning came out again.

Tiffany was angry. Was he looking down on her? She knew she couldn't play but who was he to judge before the tryouts even started?

"Yeah, can't I?" She lifted a chin a little, challenging him. The action only seemed to make her cuter, not fiercer.

He smiled a little at her childish antics before lifting his hands in surrender.

"I'm just asking, no need to get all defensive,"

She pouted before mumbling, "I'm not being defensive,"

"Yes, you are,"

Just when Tiffany was about to open to defend herself (note the irony), Jesse opened his and answered her initial question.

"By the way, soccer isn't taking in anyone now. Unless you don't mind being the waterboy,"

Being the waterboy was fine with her, but it was stupid to eagerly grab this post after the fight about her not being able to play soccer. So she pretended to reject that offer but at the same time going one big round to get more information about that position.

"Nah, I'm not interested,"

"Really? But the look on your face says otherwise,"

She was busted.

"Just in case you're just pretending right now," She shot him a look and he immediately repeated, "JUST IN CASE, I said just in case!"

She looked away, feigning nonchalance, but in reality she was paying attention to everything he said.
"JUST IN CASE you're pretending, go and look for a Mr Choi. He will fill you up with all the information you need,"

Tiffany just kept quiet, considering to approach this Mr Choi with her entire life achievements on hand just so that he would take her in without any further consideration. This job could be of high demand, she thinks, because Jesse is there.

"Just to let you know, this job has been vacant for 2 years now. So take your time to consider,"

She buried her face in her palms for the second time to hide her embarrassment. Seems like she was the only one in school crazy over Jesse Jung.

" I'm not excited because I'm a guy, and he is a guy. Guy and guy can't get married you idiot."

Stupid brother of hers. He was the real idiot who caused her to be in such a terrible situation.

She was sure to make his life terrible when he returns. But for now, she needs support.

-

Who would have thought that Tiffany would first be discovered by the school's nurse. But they were nurses and it made sense that they knew how to differentiate guys form girls. Then the school guys must be fools, she thought. Because they did not have the ability to do so.

"Wh-what are you doing here?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, what are you doing in a boy's school?"

"Wh-what? Y-you know I'm a gi-"

"Of course I know, aren't I examining you now? There are some things that you can't hide,"

Tiffany felt the need to get onto her knees to beg the nurse not to spill the beans.

"Pl-ple-please don't tell anyone!" Tears were threatening to fall and the nurse being a girl, was sensitive to such emotions. So she comforted the young brunette and whispered, "Don't worry, I won't say a word!"

Feeling how the younger girl's head nodding against her shoulder, she hugged her even tighter as she felt the need to protect her.

"Just tell me if you need anything. I'll help you out, "

There, Tiffany got the support she needed.

Now she needed to get the job as a waterboy.

-

"Mr Choi! Mr Choi!"

He turned around, watching the young boy pant as he raised his hands to lean against the wall, bending over to catch his breath.

After regaining her composure, Tiffany stood back up and gave an entire folder to him. He took it with surprised and had prepared to ask her what she was doing, until she answered his thoughts.

"I want to be the waterboy for the soccer team,"

Mr Choi widened his eyes at that statement and swiftly replied, "You're in!"

Tiffany raised both her eyebrows in surprised.

"That was quick!"

"Yeah. Listen, I've got a class in 5 minutes. Do you mind giving me your number so I can text you the details of the soccer practices? Don't worry, you'll enjoy yourself there! The boys are very friendly!"

-

Enjoy herself? How could she when she constantly found Jesse Jung grinning at her?

She admits that she likes the attention that he was giving her but then again, he was doing nothing but to constantly .

Tease me?

She remembered about what her best friend used to tell her, "Boys only tease you when they like you,"

She gasped. Is Jesse... gay?

She wanted to cry on the spot but a voice interrupted her.

"I thought you said you weren't interested?"

She turned around to hit Jesse on the arm.

"Don't do that! You scared me!"

"You're pretty wimpy for a boy, you know!"

Tiffany was startled. If she wanted to hide her identity, she needed to act more like a man. And now is the time to do so.

"YAH! I'm not wimpy okay! Y-you want to fight with me one on one?"

But her stuttering betrayed her, and the Jesse's laugh told her.

"I doubt you'll be able to win me," With that, he stretched his hand out to pinch her underarm.

"Ouch it hurts! Why did you do that for?"

"It's time for someone to pay the gym a visit!" He grinned at her before returning back to the soccer field. Her eyes never left his figure, glaring at him as he walked down the benches.

"Feeling your stare, I'm guessing you want me to accompany you?"

"Sh-sh-shut up!"

 He laughed it off.

-

"It seems like Jesse is getting very close to you,"

Tiffany looked up to face Taeyeon on her right. They were currently looking through the music sheets and highlighting their parts for the song.

"He just teases me a lot,"

"That's new. He hardly even talks to us,"

"He doesn't?"

"Not now I mean. As in then when we were all new to the school. It took him a year to adapt to school life and start talking to others,"

Tiffany stared at Taeyeon and the latter continued.

"But it only took him a week to get used to you," Taeyeon's heart tugged a little.

What he said got Tiffany more and more worried. Were her suspicions true? That Jesse was gay, and he likes her because he thought that she was Leo? She frowned hard as she used a notably more amount of strength to highlight her section as compared to previously.  Taeyeon noticed it and asked quietly, "Hey, you okay?"

That line only reminded her of Jesse and it upset her. But she didn't have the heart to take it out on Taeyeon, because he was innocent. So turned to her right again and reassured him, "I'm fine,"

He knew something was wrong with Tiffany, but ignored it, thinking that the better option was to give the young brunette more space.
