First Step to Freedom
My Light in the Darkness'Don't tell me...'
'Oh my god.'
'No way.'
'We're all going to college.'
AHHHHHH!!!!!
The girls screamed and kicked their feet in excitement. Springing off the carpet, Tiffany spun into human form and squealed as she jumped up and down.
'No way! Soo, you're serious?' Tiffany charged towards Sooyoung and clung on tightly, 'thank you thank you thank you!'
Sooyoung rolled her eyes but broke into a smile nonetheless. Even though she knew it was what they were expected to do, she hated seeing the rest of the witches, especially Tiffany, so depressed from the loss of their new friends. As she tossed and turned in her bed the previous night, her mind wandered back to the morning where the girls were laughing out loud with the new kids, splashing in the sea and chatting about silly mundane things, something they never got to do.
She would get an earful from The Council, that she was certain of, but she argued to herself that that would be a small price to pay for her best friends to get to enjoy a slice of normal. Besides, she'd say it was for the sake of the people. What could The Council possibly do? After all, it is their rule that protecting the humans always takes priority.
'Yes, I'm serious, but before you get too excited, I have a few ground rules.'
Tiffany groaned, already expecting this from her older friend.
'Firstly, no dating.'
'Typical,' Jessica scoffed.
'Secondly, no getting overly attached.'
Seohyun and Tiffany shared a nervous glance, unlike Seohyun at all. Despite being the youngest in age, Seohyun always seemed to be more mature than the other girls in the coven besides Sooyoung. She spent her time reading and expanding her knowledge, constantly keeping her mind open to learning and appreciating different people and cultures. With her intense focus on excelling academically, no one expected her to be the type to get emotionally attached to a mortal. Her loneliness and desire for friends was evident, sure, but everyone thought she'd be mature enough to not get involved with anyone she knew she could lose in a heartbeat.
'Lastly, and most importantly, never lose focus of your duty.'
'Protecting the humans, we know, we know,' Tiffany droned in mock annoyance but snapped back into a grin instantly, 'so does that mean we start tomorrow?'
'Yes, I was thinking of informing The Council right now. Once they agree, they can pull some strings and use some magic to get us in by tomorrow. You guys just have to decide what courses you want to take so I can enrol you in them.'
'Great! Thank you, Soo!' Seohyun chirped and dug out her phone to start researching the courses she wanted.
Meanwhile, the rest had already decided.
'I'll do my major in Psychology, I overheard some girls talking about it the other day and it sounded really interesting,' Sunny spared no second thoughts.
'Perfect for you too, I mean psych's all about emotions, right?' Jessica asked and waited for Sunny to nod before continuing, 'I think I'll do Physiology.'
'Okay, great to hear you guys have already made your choice. Tiff, can I speak to you for a sec?' Sooyoung motioned for Tiffany to follow her into the kitchen.
Raising her one eyebrow at the other girls, Tiffany made her way through the wooden doors of the kitchen.
'What's up, Soo?'
'It's nothing serious. I just wanted to make sure you're focused on the mission. I know you've grown attached to Taeyeon, whether you'll admit it or not. I don't know what it is about her that's got you hooked so fast, but I really hope you know what you're doing. You're the second oldest. Even though I'm High Priestess, you're technically supposed to be second in command. The girls look to you for direction too. Be responsible, okay? You're not a baby anymore, I trust you to make the right decisions, Tiff...'
Silence ensued as Tiffany appeared to be deep in thought.
'I love you Tiff, you know that right? I don't mean to do all this, but I have to... I hope
