Thunderstorm

Once Upon A Story

Featuring: KrisHan and Suho

---------

Ding dong ding dong ding dong. The annoying sound of the doorbell resounded throughout the apartment.

Luhan had been awakened by all the noise. He had his pillows pressed tightly against his ears in hopes of blocking out the ruckus. He thought that if he just ignored it the person on the other side would eventually leave him alone; except he couldn't be more wrong.

He groaned aloud. It's been going on repeatedly for at least an agonizing 10 minutes. Luhan finally rolled around in bed to see the blinding white numbers 1:15 AM glaring back at him. Who would be this crazy and persistent to be at his door at this time of the day?

Deciding that whoever was outside wasn't going to be leaving him any time soon, he very unwillingly threw his covers aside and heavily dragged his feet out of his room.

After the door had been unlocked, it was flung open.

"Kris!" He exclaimed as the large body tipped forward and if not for Luhan's quick reflex, the taller male would've collided into the floor.

Kris' body felt heavy against Luhan and he struggled to balance the extra weight. With much difficulty he managed to haul Kris and situate him on the couch.

Kris Wu was Luhan's extremely annoying childhood friend and neighbor for as long as he could remember. Luhan swore that Kris lived and thrived to pester him. They had an interesting friendship that couldn't be easily described using words. At best their relationship was a blurry line between love and hate, friends and enemies.

Kris was unconscious, his longs limbs sprawled out on the couch. His rosy red cheeks and the fact that he reeked heavily of alcohol made it obvious that he was dead drunk.

Luhan heaved a tired sigh as he walked back into the living room with a thin blanket, a basin filled with warm water and a towel. He wringed the towel dry and began dabbing gently at Kris' face. Once he finished wiping the latter's hands, he was caught off guard when he felt one of them curled loosely around his wrist.

He looked down and noticed Kris' eyes fluttering open and adjusting themselves to the light from the moon that shone through the wide window. "Went out drinking and forgot your keys?"

"Nah." He replied in a raspy voice.

Luhan's forehead crinkled in utter annoyance. "Is this another one of your jokes? You have your own keys, why are you waking me up at nearly two in the morning?"

"Trisha broke up with me." Kris stated lowly, completely disregarding the questions thrown at him. The grip he held on Luhan's wrist tightened.

Upon hearing this, Luhan's expression softened. He was surprised that of all people, Kris would voluntarily come to him. On the surface they may more often than not act like Tom and Jerry, but deep down, very very deep down, they did care for one another. So Luhan sat down next to Kris and placed his hand lightly on top of the latter's knee.

"Hey, I'm sorry to hear that."

Kris just shrugged off the sympathy. "She finally admitted that I had been the third wheel this entire time."

Luhan frowned at the sudden revelation. "That would explain why you're so drunk."

"Hardly. I've been thinking about a lot of things lately, and they just don't seem to make any sense."

Luhan's eyebrows knitted together in confusion. "Did all that alcohol malfunction your brain? You've been dating her for half a year, how can you not feel the least bit upset knowing she lied to you?"

"That's exactly it, I felt nothing for her when we were dating. And  while I did feel angry knowing that she's basically been using me as a spare tire, the emotion died out pretty quickly." He sat himself up properly.

"Look Kris, I know we aren't the best of friends but it's okay to be upset. I'm not going to hold this against you."

Kris rolled his eyes. "Were you even listening to what I've been saying?"

Luhan nodded, appalled by the accusation. "Yeah I was, but these kind of things happen. And it's crappy that it happened to you but it doesn't help being in denial."

Kris sighed and rubbed at his temples, all this arguing was only making his migraine worse. "Alright Mr. Know it all, see if you can answer me this. I don't and never have felt anything for Trisha because there's this certain someone that is constantly flooding my mind. Care to explain to me why every morning when I wake up and every night before I fall asleep the first person that I think of is you?"

His doe eyes widened and darted down to his feet out of shock at the abruptness of that question. His heart pounded erratically out of sync and he felt the blood rushing to his cheeks. Why was he reacting in such a way? For all he knew, this might have been one of Kris' pranks again.

"So?" He probed  when he received no response from the shorter male.

Luhan flinched out of his trance at the loudness of the demanding tone. "I...h-how would I know? I-it's not like I'm a psychologist or anything!" He mentally cursed himself for stammering.

Kris took note of how flustered Luhan seemed to be and subconsciously his lips curved upwards showing off a genuine smile.

He gently glided his fingers against Luhan's flushed cheek and lifted the latter's chin so they were meeting eye to eye.

Luhan's mesmerizing brown orbs seemed to reflect confusion and uncertainty.

Kris tilted Luhan's chin up and instantly their lips connected.

-------

It's been exactly three days since the incident. Luhan was still trying to wrap his head around the events of what happened that day.

'Care to explain to me why every morning when I wake up and every night before I fall asleep the first person that I think of is you?'

Kris' exact words had been constantly replaying in his head. If it had been anyone else to say that to him, he might've melted at the confession; but since that person had been Kris, Luhan needed to keep caution. Although as much as he'd like to deny it, every time he thought back to what occurred that night, he would feel his heart racing, his cheeks warming and butterflies fluttering in his stomach. He scolded himself repeatedly, telling himself he shouldn't be feeling this way, especially not for Kris. But clearly, that wasn't within his control.

Not only had he been bothered by the fact that he lost his first kiss, there was also this empty nagging feeling lingering within him; almost as if something wasn't right. Ever since that night, Kris and Luhan had not uttered a single word to one another. Luhan was still feeling awkward about the kiss and just simply didn't know what to say or how to face Kris. Although he hadn't expected Kris not to be bouncing around him annoying the hell out of him every chance possible. As irritating as it had been, it was something Luhan had gotten used to. So when he suddenly wasn't the receiving end of Kris' childish and annoying antics, Luhan was left feeling rather odd and incomplete. Aside from all this, Kris didn't act any differently towards anybody else; he was still his goofy man child self. Just why was he ignoring Luhan?

"Oh Luhan, there you are!" Suho, an employee that usually worked at the front desk burst in. His voice echoing throughout the empty practice room.

Upon hearing his name, Luhan snapped his head in the direction of the door. "Suho?" It then dawned on him that he was at LK Studio. The place where ironically he and Kris opened up together to teach people how to sing, dance, rap and play instruments. "Were you looking for me?"

Suho nodded. "Your vocal lessons started 15 minutes ago. If your students hadn't come up to me complaining and asking your whereabouts I wouldn't have known you weren't in the room."

Luhan's eyes bugged out in disbelief. He hadn't realized that his mind had been so occupied with thoughts of Kris that he had forgotten to show up to his class! It was ridiculous how out of it he was.

"Hey, are you okay? You don't look too good." Suho asked worriedly.

Luhan nodded. "I'm fine." He then nibbled at his bottom lip contemplating what he should do before he began speaking again. "Can you tell them that I'm sorry that I'm late but class is cancelled today and that I'll reschedule another time to them for free?"

Suho wanted to question why but he refrained from doing so as his boss already looked troubled and tired. Instead he nodded. "Go home and rest."

Luhan offered him a grateful smile. "Thanks Suho."

------------

By the time Luhan had arrived back in his apartment, he was soaked from head to toe. When he'd left the studio the rain had come down lightly and was almost nonexistent. But as time progressed the water was pouring down heavily.

Pitter patter pitter patter. The sound of the raindrops  hitting against the windows had a calming effect on Luhan. However, that was short lived as the wind suddenly started picking up. The impact of the wind was strong enough to slam the door shut. The neatly piled up newspapers were harshly blown off the dining table, the magazines and scrap papers he had on the living room coffee table were also a scattered mess. He ran against the wind in an attempt to shut all the open windows.

BOOM! The thunder roared and the lightning flashed throughout the sky illuminating the entire room.

Luhan shook in fear as he scrambled to flip on the light switches, but to his dismay there must have been a power outage due to the weather.

BOOM! This time it came louder causing Luhan to immediately scream out of fear. Feeling helpless, he sank down to the floor and hugged his knees to his chest.

Kris had come out of the elevator just in time to hear Luhan's screaming. He quickly ran to the door and vigorously pushed on the doorbell, eventually giving up when he didn't hear anything.  He had been worried about Luhan ever since he heard from Suho that the latter didn't look well thus cancelled his classes and went home; he silently thanked the lord that he decided to follow just to ensure Luhan was alright. He tried turning the knob and was thankful Luhan hadn't yet locked the door.

His eyes wandered around the room, following the sound of muffled crying. He spotted Luhan hiding behind the couch in the living room. Kris knelt down beside him and enveloped the trembling boy into his arms. "Shh, it's okay now. I'm here." He whispered gently into Luhan's ear.

They stayed in that position for a while after the rain and thunder stopped. Kris practically had Luhan cradled in his embrace as he continued rubbing the latter's back in an effort to calm him down. Except, by the sounds of it the sobbing only increased. Kris looked down at Luhan worriedly. "Hey, what's wrong?"

Luhan wriggled himself out of the warmth of Kris' arms and sat himself up. "I-I don't know, I've been feeling upset the entire day and I'm not really even sure of the reason. But I've been really bothered that you seemed to be ignoring me for the last couple days. What gives you the right to just steal my first kiss and then act as if I don't exist? With your previous jokes and pranks at least you'd have the audacity to tell me afterwards that it was one, why is it so different this time?" He hated looking weak in front of Kris but at the moment he really didn't care, he just wanted an answer.

Kris sighed. He'd have to explain himself sooner or later, he couldn't keep avoiding it as if it didn't happen. "Would you believe me if I told you that kiss wasn't a joke?"

And at that his body began acting up again. Flushed cheeks, quickened heartbeat and the butterflies were back. "Then...?"

In answer to Luhan's question, he pecked the shorter male's lips. "Yeah, I like you." He confirmed Luhan's thoughts as he wiped the stray tears away from other's cheeks.

When Kris captured Luhan's lips in another kiss, the latter not only didn't pull away, he was smiling into it. The feelings were mutual.
