Prompt: Two characters who don't get along work on a project together. Changed the prompt a bit but here's what came out of it! HS AU

"The scores are posted on the back wall."

As usual two students rushed toward the back. The rest watched them, accustomed to the pair always being the first to the back. 

"One hundred percent!" One of them yelled out with a cheer. Next to him a female groaned. "Ninety-eight"

As the students walked towards the back they couldn't help but watch the duo. 

"You just got lucky Dongwoo," the female said with a pout, refusing to acknowledge her score.

"Not my fault you missed one question Amy."

She scowled at him before returning to her seat at the front of the class. Dongwoo followed taking his seat next to her.

"I thought I would get a perfect score," She spoke quietly, more to herself than anyone in particular.

"Don't feel bad Amy," She rolled her eyes at hearing her birth name again, "Mistakes happen."

"Clearly since you're here." 

Students who'd taken their seats behind them laughed and Dongwoo turned back to glare at them. Before he could say something back the teacher began speaking and he focused on her. Of course not before slightly kicking the girls desk. She looked up in annoyance and he smiled at her. Refusing to continue on with his game she turned back to the front of the class and focused on the new assignment being given. 

Dongwoo though wasn't done and began playing around with her bag that was in between them. He could see her battling with herself, whether to ignore him or lash out. So far the latter was winning.

"If you don't stop I'll kill you."

It was meant to come out as a whisper but those nearby heard it, including the teacher. 

"Ailee and Dongwoo" They both turned to look at her, already regretting their actions, "If you want to talk so much then you can be partners for this assignment." 

A loud gasp came from the class as the two wide eyed students looked at each other before turning back to the teacher. "Please, we'll be quiet. We won't cause any more distractions."

She ignored them, returning to her assignment. The students behind them laughed softly. This would be a sight to see. The two top students who constantly battled each other for first would be paired together. 

"We're entering a new section today. This section will focus more on writing essays than simply reading a book and answering a few questions. That is why this week we'll be going over how to write a good essay and next week you'll start on the partner essay." She paused looking at the pair in front of her. "One pair has already been decided. The rest can pair up with whoever they wish."

The class cheered as they stated yelling across the class to their friends. Dongwoo simply sighed as Ailee looked at her best friend Amber pairing up with someone else. She groaned internally, hating both herself and Dongwoo. 

"The topic of the essay will be, How do you define beauty? We'll be going over different sources and what to include on the essay this week so it shouldn't be too hard."

The class gave a silent agreement and began the new section excitedly. All except the pair at the front of the class.

The week they were supposed to start the essay passed by without a single word from either of them. It wasn't until the second week where Ailee decided they needed to work on it. 

"We can meet up at my place."

Dongwoo looked at her in surprise. He hadn't expected her to talk to him. "I thought you'd want to do it by yourself."

"And give you credit? No way. We're working on this together." She crossed her arms over her chest and he smiled.

"Fine. Give me your number so we can contact each other. I'm free later." 

She nodded and they exchanged numbers, finalizing their plans to meet later.

"How do you define beauty?"

Dongwoo shrugged and she forced herself not to slap him.

"We can't work on this if you won't answer."

"Well what do you define as beauty?" He asked back, refusing to be the first to say anything.

"I think," she straightened herself and turned to look at him," it's a combination of qualities, both physical and internal, that make a person or thing appealing."

He nodded in agreement and looked down at the paper they had been given in class. "The next question is, what qualities do you find attractive?"

"Your turn."

He looked at the list on the paper briefly before responding. "I like someone who is nice, has a great sense of humor and is overall a good person."

Looking up he noticed Ailee smiling at him. "What?"

"Nothing," She replied brushing her hair from her face, "It's just weird to hear that coming from you."

"And why is that Amy?"

She frowned for a moment before answering. "Knowing you as someone with a big ego I wasn't sure you'd focus on anyone else's qualities"

He dismissed her words with a laugh. "I do focus on others Amy. For example, you."

"Me?" She looked at him with genuine confusion.

He smlied at her loss of confusion, the essay forgotten. Moving all the papers away they sat on the couch next to each other. 

"Yeah like for example I realize that you also have a big ego..."

She gave him a shove and he laughed. "But in all seriousness, you have a great sense of humor."

She was taken off guard with the compliment and looked at him skeptically. Even more when he continued. "And when you're not trying to beat me for number one you're actually really nice."

She turned away suddenly aware that she was blushing. 

"And just maybe, I think you're pretty."

Her heart seemed to beat faster as she thought about his words. Not knowing what to do she looked down at her lap, refusing to even look his way. A short silence settled between them before he spoke. "What about you?"

She looked up finally making eye contact. "What qualities do you like?" He handed her the paper and she looked over the list. 

"I like someone who has a positive attitude, is confident, and kind..." He nodded and was about to get his papers when she spoke. "Qualities that you have."

Dongwoo turned to look at her and she gave him a small smile. "And just maybe, I find you handsome."

He leaned in close to her and she wasn't surprised when she found herself leaning in as well. He decided on a simple kiss on the cheek and she couldn't help but feel disappointed. He chuckled at her pout, she looked adorable.

"We'll save the kiss for our first date."

"First date? I don't recall being asked out."

He rolled his eyes before standing up and holding out a hand to her. She took it and they stood face to face.

"Ailee," she smiled at hearing him finally use the nickname she loved, "I'm not going to lie when I say you can be really annoying." She playfully hit him with her free hand and he laughed. "But I'm just as annoying as well. Which is why I think we would make a great pair. So will you go out with me?"

"Don't seem to have a choice if I want that kiss."

"Flirt"

"Yes"

"You."

A/N: So yeah here's the first story! As you can tell I'm not the best writer but hopefully I'll improve as I write more.
