she looks up from her coffee, her eyes boring into my soul and i feel a little bit of nervousness creep its darkness into the corners of my chest.

“yes?” i finally ask when she seems to say nothing but continue staring into me.

“i’ve missed you,” she blurts after a few seconds, and it’s cold and harsh, and i think to myself that it would’ve been better if she didn’t say it at all.
