Renaissance
Forever and AlwaysIt was a great time to be alive. After years of being in the Dark Ages, the Renaissance was like the light at the end of the tunnel. Science, art, literature and music were flourishing. There were all sorts of entertainment available.
Nonetheless, it only applies for the rich.
For Gary though, it was a horrid period. The political struggle between the state and the church caused riots. The poor, with no power to fight for themselves, were defenceless against these and were often sacrificed. His parents died in the course of a riot.
As a young orphan, he roamed the streets. With no adults for protection, he was often bullied by the other beggars. It was the survival of the fittest, after all.
Jihyo was much luckier. She was born into a wealthy family. In fact, her father was probably the richest merchant in town. He was a trader and had access to many valuable art pieces. She lived in a mansion. And she was lucky that her father recognised the importance of education. Not many girls had the chance to go to school, but she had a private tutor.
Nonetheless, her father was very strict on her. She was never allowed to leave the house. She could often observe the bustling of the city from her room.
