Part Ninety-Seven
Random Acts of Love: KyuWook DrabblesTogether Forever
Yesung walked into the dorm with a stack of music in his arms, handing it off to me before taking off his coat and shoes. “There’s a lot here!”
“I have some demo discs in my pocket as well,” he warned me.
“Are you hungry, hyung? We just ate and I left the food out in case you wanted something.”
“No, I’m trying to watch my weight,” he said, shaking his head. “I’ll just take some coffee if you’ve got some.”
“Kyuhyunnie is making it now,” I told him, walking over to the dining room table with the stack.
Kyuhyun finally walked out of the kitchen and nearly clobbered Yesung, who he hadn’t seen in a few weeks. He just stood there a moment, with Yesung in a death grip, rocking back and forth. “It’s my favorite hyung!”
“Stop that, you brat! Only Teukkie falls for that,” Yesung said, finally managing to push him away.
Kyuhyun laughed and walked back into the kitchen. I spread the music over the table and sat down, looking through a couple songs with interesting titles. “Have you looked through these at all yet? Do you have any favorites?”
He stood there a moment, looking over the stack and then grabbed a couple packs of sheet music. Before he could hand them over to me, Kyuhyun stole them from him and handed him his coffee mug instead. Then Kyuhyun began reading through the first one and humming through some parts.
Yesung looked at him expectantly, waiting to hear what he thought of it. Kyuhyun eventually nodded. “The melody is catchy.”
“I thought about that one quit a bit. I’ve been browsing through these the last couple weeks and I think you two would sound best doing the chorus together on that one. Our musicians would probably still divide up the parts equally anyway, but it would sound better with you two singing the chorus and me singing some higher-pitched background vocals in that part.”
I stood up and moved over to Kyuhyun’s side to look through the music. He was already trying to sing through the chorus. He did this over and over, making little adjustments to the pacing, as I read through the piece. Then I began to sing the chorus with him. I noticed that he kept glancing at me as I sang the part and he smiled when I finally looked directly at him. As we tried the chorus a few times over, Yesung began to add in some adlib parts, which sounded beautiful. God, how I’ve missed singing together.
It felt strange to be onstage with Super Junior and not have Kyuhyun with us, but at least I’m used to that. For so many years now, there’s always been someone missing. I got accustomed to not having everyone on stage with us anymore. But deep down, I’m more disturbed about singing KRY songs without the three of us there together. It just feels so wrong to sing with just Kyuhyun or Yesung.
Kyuhyun sighed loudly as we stopped singing. “Yeah, I think we should consider this one as well,” he agreed.
“It’s another love song though,” I . Twelve years ago, when we first started the subgroup, Kyuhyun would complain about the fact that all of the ballads were love songs or about breaking up. He was young then and didn’t have the appreciation of sappy love songs that he does now. That is predominately what he sings for solo songs as well and he’s the most popular soloist of the group because of it. But his mind didn’t change about love songs because of his success as a soloist or even due to Super Junior KRY’s popularity for singing them. If I’m not mistaken, I think his mind changed about love songs when he fell in love.
“I know,” he only said, grasping my hand and sqeezing.
I moved back over to my seat and began poring over the stack of music, looking for ones that would sound good with all three of us. It was so hard to pick, although we had plenty of time to consider our choices. Kyuhyun would not be back until late May. He would probably start sneaking into the sound studio before then, on his down time, to record music, but we officially couldn’t release anything for nearly another seven months yet.
I began reading through another piece which spoke of reuniting with your love after a long absence. Of course, I thought of its personal meaning for me, after being away from Kyuhyun for so long. But it would also be a good one because we’d been away from our fans for so long as well. I stood back up and moved closer to Kyuhyun, showing him the song.
“I have a demo of that one,” Yesung said, jumping up and heading back into the hallway to grab the cds. He walked them over to the stereo system, flipping through the discs until he found the right one, and then inserted it into the cd player. He turned the volume up as the music
