It was the day of the New Year’s party, and everyone was rushing around as usual. Xiumin had been given the role of helping D.O. cook the food. He wasn’t particularly good at cooking or interested in it but he liked to eat and was probably the only one who wouldn’t mess around with the food (besides Chanyeol of course- that boy was serious about cooking) and so he was given the duty of helping to prepare the food.  

This basically meant he cut all the vegetables for D.O. and Chanyeol to cook. He had already cut more than 30 individual pieces of fruit. D.O. was a quiet chef, only talking when he wanted something or was scolding Xiumin for cutting something too big or too small. Chanyeol was also surprisingly quiet, focused on the meat he was cooking up; the boy was a total perfectionist and didn’t want any raw or burnt meat.

Xiumin was dying of boredom. He wasn’t usually one to talk a lot but the silence and steam and repetitiveness of cutting vegetables was suffocating him. He wished that he hadn’t been chosen for this job. He could just faintly hear Chen cackling from where he, along with Luhan (LUHAN!), Kai and Sehun were hanging up decorations. They would probably be chatting and relaxing- Kai would probably put some music on that they would dance to, Sehun would probably take pictures and Luhan would be laughing cutely at Chen’s troll expressions.  

Xiumin sighed wistfully. Baekhyun and Lay had gone to invite people (people= sunbaes) to the party. Taemin had already promised to come according to Kai but no one else had given any hint that they would be coming and so, the two boys had gone to confirm. Suho, Tao and Kris, or as Baekhyun called them, the Money Squad, had gone to buy drinks and general snacks to have alongside the actual meals as well as rent out some DVDs/party games/anything fun that they found.  

Xiumin looked at the two members he was with. Chanyeol and D.O. were currently leaning over a pot, D.O. talking in a quiet voice, gesturing to the soup before pointing at Chanyeol’s meat supply (which stank) in the corner. Xiumin sighed, continuing to cut the tomatoes.

They had finally finished the cooking, well, they meaning Chanyeol and D.O. Xiumin had been put on washing duty after there were no more vegetables left to cut and he thought he was going to crazy from boredom. Thank god they didn’t have to do anything anymore.  

Xiumin walked outside the kitchen and to the living room and was met with the sight of the 4 boys playing video games, the decorations finished and hung up, looking pretty. “You guys played without me?” Chanyeol asked playfully, naturally going to sit down next to Kai to watch them play the basketball game.     

“You guys are addicts.” D.O. grumbled. Xiumin nodded in agreement. “You really are.” He sighed as he sat down on another couch, next to D.O. “Baozi!” Luhan said, his eyes not leaving the game. “Just one second- I’m kicking Chen’s right now.” He said smugly. Xiumin rolled his eyes but smiled at the boy anyway.  

A few minutes later, Luhan finally finished playing and won the game, coming over to Xiumin. “Let’s go somewhere.” The taller boy suggested. “Where?” Xiumin asked. Luhan grinned. “How about the coffee shop?” He asked. Xiumin smiled back.

“Man, it’s the last day of the year already.” Luhan spoke up after they had gotten their coffees and were seated at their usual table in the SM Coffee Shop. Xiumin nodded. “It went by really fast.” He agreed. “EXO got really popular.” Luhan commented after a short period of silence. Xiumin glanced up, startled by the sudden words. HE couldn’t help but feel slightly worried. “Yeah, they did.” He didn’t know what else to say. p>

Luhan glanced up at him and seemed to sense Xiumin’s discomfort as he sent him a reassuring smile, as if telling him it was okay, Luhan was here. “Have you talked to Wufan lately?” Luhan asked. Xiumin cocked his head. “Not really, why?” He asked curiously. Luhan shook his head. “I just remembered something he told me a while back.” He said. “What was it?” Xiumin persisted. Luhan smiled, but it wasn’t as reassuring as before. “Nothing.” He said, reaching out one of his hands and squeezing Xiumin’s hands. In public, that was the equivalent of a kiss.

“It was an amazing year.” Xiumin said softly, finally. Luhan nodded. “But, why do I feel like the next year might not be as good?” Xiumin added hesitantly. Luhan giggled. “You’re too superstitious. One great year doesn’t mean the next will be bad.” Luhan joked. Xiumin smiled. “You’re right, of course.” He said.

Of course.

Sorry, that probably didn’t make any sense. EXO does that to me. It’s upsetting that Tao isn’t part of the repackaged album (it seems) and there will always be the absence of Kris and Luhan but let’s try and support our hard working boys as much as possible, okay? They really deserve it!
