Chapter 8 - Indifference
My thoughts, Your memories
Author's note: A really short update. Sungmin's thoughts are written in italics.
Sungmin in all means was scared. What if Kangin had done something stupid? Like…like suicide. No, that couldn’t be. There was no way she would be able to live with that. To think she had caused such sorrow to someone.
Somehow she made it through the night. She had fallen asleep crying. The first think she did was to call Heechul. Though she had to bear some shouting she let out a sigh of relief when he said Kangin was found. He had gone home to his mother. Guess everyone runs to their mother when troubled.
A few days passed without much fuss. Sungmin was trying to get the hang of her life. When she had agreed to date Kangin, Hyukjae, Yunho and Key were the people she told about it apart from Donghae, Ryeowook and Tiffany. Other than them she hadn’t told anyone. But unlike with Siwon, in her relationship with Kangin there was no hiding. And everyone else in the college had heard more or less about it.
Everyone, Sungmin soon found out was acting with an indifference towards her. For one thing Sungmin was glad they didn’t ask her and didn’t try to pry into her life. But some people whom she thought cared about her were no longer there. And this was not after the break up this had been going on for a while. She had been too engrossed in her relationship to note how her friends were slowly drifting away. Even Hyukjae seemed not want to talk to her anymore.
One day she was walking to class when she spotted a figure in front of her class’s door.
“Kangin oppa..”
“Sungmin I want to talk to you”
“I have nothing to say to you..” With that she tried to enter the class. But Kangin stood in front of her blocking the way. “Please Sungmin don’t let us be like this”
“Please just let me go..”
Sungmin caught the sight of Minho, her classmate coming towards the class. She thought Kangin would not make a scene before Minho and leave. But to her surprise Minho just walked past her as though she didn’t exist there.
“See Sungmin, he knows about us that’s why he left us alone, everyone here knows about us, how can you leave me after all this?”
“No matter what I won’t come back to you, so please just leave me alone.”
The bell rang and Sungmin could escape into her class, away from Kangin. Minho’s reaction earlier had surprised her, but it made her realize her classmates’ indifference towards her. The students were piling in and no one seemed to give her much attention except her best friends. But even they had other people to talk to and Sungmin found she had none.
She has to change this. She has to win back their hearts. She has to be the bubbly Minnie who was a friend with everyone before. Fighting Min, you can do it.
Sungmin let out a sigh. She went onto the seat at the back. She usually sat there. Sometimes Donghae would sit with her sometimes some other dorks of the class. While she was thinking of the old times a person came and sat near her. Sungmin remembered Kyuhyun as the kid who always hung out with Yunho’s gang of which Hyukjae and Siwon were the remaining members. Does he usually sit here? Sungmin was a bit angry at herself for not remembering where her classmates’ seats were. Aish, you are hopeless Lee Sungmin.
Sungmin turned to look at her seatmate, when he looked at her and gave a smile. Somehow that smile made her day, it gave her hope that everything will turn out better in time.
