Working It Out. Slowly

Unwanted Reunion

A/N: This Chapter is dedicated to XJbear!! :D

If you're reading this, sorry I took so long to fulfill your request. I had to find the proper timing to insert the MinSu-ism XD

Some more MinSu will appear, but at later chapters and more random intervals

Junsu was excited. A whole day with Changmin. A whole day to make up for the three years he had lost.

It wasn't much, but it was still something to start with.

Changmin however, had fallen silent, looking down at his entwined fingers as Junsu drove through some amazing scenery.

Junsu noticed when they drove through a particularly nice stretch of forest, and Changmin was now looking at the floor of the car as if it was way more interesting.

'Changmin?' he prompted when the silence made him uncomfortable. 'What's wrong?'

Changmin stayed silent, before answering almost hesitantly. 'Am I... Bad?'

'What do you mean?'

Changmin bit his lip, as one hand gripped the car door handle. If Junsu hadn't locked the door, it surely would have opened, making the Maknae tumble out onto the road.

'I made Yunho hyung hurt...'

Junsu stayed silent, considering what to say. 'We're all human, Changmin. We make mistakes, we hurt the ones we love. It happens. What's important is that we move on from the past. Forgive and forget.'

'Forgive and... Forget...?'

Junsu nodded. 'Hating, being angry, keeping grudges... Its all unnecessary.'

'Why?' The Maknae asked, intrigued.

'Because its a waste of time. Why spend time and effort on something so hateful? Those things will only bring you down, preventing you from moving forward. When you forgive and forget, you're moving on. Moving on from bad memories that will hold you down. Setting yourself free.'

'Free from what?' Changmin had changed his position now that he was facing Junsu as he drove, knees drawn up to his chest.

'Free from doing bad things I guess.'

'Oh.' was all Changmin answered.

Changmin had his chin resting on his kneecaps, staring freely at Junsu.

'Changmin, put on your seatbelt.'

'Shiro.' Changmin answered bluntly.

'Why...?' Junsu asked, countering Changmin's bluntness with his aegyo.

'Because seatbelts hurt...'

'Changmin...' Junsu sighed.

'Shiro,' answered Changmin, extending the last syllable to a whine.

'Fine.' Junsu huffed. He wasn't going to fight. Not now.

'Where are we going, hyung?' Changmin asked out of the blue.

'Eh? Oh. Its a surprise!'

Changmin frowned slightly, but didn't ask any further, suddenly tired. He closed his eyes, and leaned his head against the window.

'Changmin?'

'Yes, hyung?'

'I know what Yunho did was wrong, but I hope you'll find the heart to forgive him one day.'

'Okay, hyung.' Changmin's answer sounded dead, but Junsu knew he was serious. He reached up a hand to gently pat Changmin on the head, and was surprised to see Changmin flinch slightly at the sudden contact, his eyes still closed. Junsu withdrew his hand, only to find that his Maknae had fallen asleep.

He must be tired, Junsu realised. He still had a fever, and that panic attack with Yunho must've worn him out more than Junsu had realised.

Junsu continued driving in silence, driving aimlessly. He did have a real destination in mind, but now that Changmin was asleep, he decided to just let the boy be and not wake him.

Junsu drove around for nearly an hour, going nowhere.

Changmin suddenly woke up, rubbing his eyes.

'Where are we?' he asked, looking around him, surprised to find that they were still moving.

'Yah, you're finally awake, sleepyhead,' Junsu teased, smiling slightly.

'What time is it?'

Junsu glanced at his wristwatch. 'Two.'

Changmin sat up straight. 'Two? Where are we going? What if I have a schedule? Does my manager hyung know where we're going? We have to turn back! I might have a schedule to go to!'

Changmin started babbling as he looked around wildly. 'Hyung! Turn back!'

Junsu held up a hand to shush him. Changmin complied, but still looked on with wide, worried eyes. 'It's okay, Minnie ah. Jae hyung went to meet with Lee Soo Man and he got two weeks off for you.'

Changmin frowned. 'Two weeks off? But...what about the new year specials? The Chuseok festival? The Golden Disk Awards?'

Junsu cut him off before he could continue freaking out. 'Min. It doesn't matter. All those things can wait. You need to rest and heal. That's the current priority, not some award festivals or some stupid performances.'

'But the fans--'

'The fans will want you resting too, if they ever hear of your current condition.'

Changmin's eyes widened. 'Wait, they don't know that--'

'No they don't, Changmin. So just calm down. Relax. Chill.'

Changmin bit his lip, but reluctantly kept quiet, leaning into the seat. Junsu decided to strike up a more normal conversation.

'How are you feeling, Min?'

'Mm...a bit lethargic, but I'm fine.'

'I heard the two of you won the Daesang.'

Changmin nodded in response, looking out his side window.

'Congratulations. I'm glad TVXQ is still going on strong without us.'

Changmin kept quiet, not answering.

'Changmin?'

Silence.

'It's not the same.' Changmin said out of the blue.

'Excuse me?'

'Without you three. Its not the same.' Changmin brought his legs up to hug them to his chest again.
'O-oh,' Junsu stuttered, 'Well, we've been gone for three years now. You must be used to it by now.'

Changmin shook his head, his chin resting on his kneecaps. 'No,' he answered softly. 'I haven't.'

Junsu smacked himself internally. He pulled over at the side of the road. He couldn't concentrate on driving now. 'Changmin...' he said, turning to face the Maknae. The younger boy was staring dead ahead. Junsu sighed, facing Changmin and resting the back of his head against his side window. He honestly didn't know what to say.

Silence filled the interior of the car, and Junsu felt pressurized to break it. 'Forget about it.'

Changmin turned to face him, confusion in his eyes.

'Just for today, we'll run away. We'll forget that we're TVXQ and JYJ. We'll forget the past three years.'

'... How?'

Junsu smiled, giving his trademark eye smile. 'LOTTE WORLD!'

For the first time in three years, Junsu saw Changmin break out into a smile. It disappeared all too quickly however, when Changmin frowned, tilting his head slightly. 'You don't need to bring me to Lotte World just to please me, hyung. I'm not a kid.'

'No? Then where do you want to go?'

Changmin kept quiet for a while, thinking. 'Can we just go somewhere where we won't be recognized? I'm really in no mood to meet some sasaeng fans.'

Junsu grimaced internally, remembering Changmin's worst encounter with a sasaeng fan that had caused him to break out in tears in the middle of the street. He remembered that incident well, because for one thing, Changmin rarely ever hit his breaking point. And another was that Jaejoong tried to hit that fan in a fit of anger. Jaejoong's anger was not really something to be messed with.

Junsu smiled to himself, suddenly remembering the best place to go. It spread into a grin, and Changmin couldn't help but be slightly creeped out.

'Hyung?'

'I know exactly where to go, Min.'

Changmin tilted his head. 'Is it crowded?'

Junsu shook his head.

'Will we be easily recognized?'

Again, he shook his head.

'Well, I guess its alright then.'

Junsu revved the engine, and they shot off.

'Hyung? Where are we?' Changmin slowly got out of the car, both of them in full disguise gear. The younger boy cautiously looked around the unfamiliar surroundings, his eyebrows knitted with worry.

Junsu only grinned, his cap pulled low over his eyes, as he got out as well and leaned against his car, his arms crossed on the hood and his chin resting cutely on top of them. The place they were at dawned on Changmin, and he couldn't help but break into a smile. You couldn't really see it, since he was wearing the hospital mask, but the twinkling in his suddenly mismatched eyes made it pretty evident.

'Oh hyung, you didn't...'

Junsu raised an eyebrow in reply, as if the answer was pretty evident.

A car store. They were at a car store.

Changmin tore his mask off his mouth and Junsu saw that the Maknae was literally splitting his face in two with his grin.

'For real?'

Junsu tilted his face as he smiled, putting on his signature angel pose as he looked at his younger member. 'Happy Birthday, Minnie,' he replied, voice dripping with aegyo.

Changmin tilted his head as well, as if it was to counter the angel pose with his own. 'My birthday is in February. It's only December.'

Junsu straightened his tilted head as he pouted cutely. 'But I missed two of your previous birthdays. I'm making up for it.'

Changmin shook his head, smiling softly. 'I... I can't, hyung. This is too much. I don't deserve it. And... You don't need to spend too much on me...'

'Nonsense! I can choose when and how I can spend my money. And besides, I heard retail therapy is a very effective way of treating stressed patients.'

Changmin rolled his eyes. 'I'm not stressed, hyung.'

Junsu rolled his eyes as well. 'Yeah right. And YunJae isn't real.'

There was a short pause as the two stared at each other, before both broke out in laughter.

Changmin's hand flew up to muffle his laughs, embarrassed to be laughing so loudly and hysterically at something only the two of them would understand. It lasted two very long minutes, their laughter, before both got out of breathe from laughing so hard.

'Oh God...' Changmin said between giggles, wiping at his eyes which had teared up from so much laughter. 'YunJae isn't real...'

The sentence alone made the two burst in another fit of laughter. Junsu's signature high-pitched dolphin-like 'eu kyang kyang' laughter filled the air as Changmin doubled over, both trying to regain some sense of composure.

It was some time till the two of them regained their lost sanity.

The giggles finally died down after several minutes, both trying to catch their breathe from laughing so hard at something so stupid.

Junsu was still grinning, proud that he had regained at least some traces of his and Changmin's past relationship. He was secretly glad he had made the Maknae laugh so hard. He wanted to hear that laughter more. It had been three years since he had last heard it with such sincerity and such happiness. He was one step closer to going back to how they were three years ago, and also in Changmin's healing process, which he was sure would require a lot of laughing and smiling.

But seriously, wasn't his joke funny?

Changmin coughed a few times as he clutched at his chest lightly. Junsu's grin immediately disappeared, as he looked at him concernedly. 'You okay?'

Changmin smiled, looking up at him. 'Laughed myself silly,' he answered, rubbing at where Junsu knew the fractures were.

Junsu frowned, tilting his head slightly. 'Sorry.'

'For making me laugh? Apology not accepted.'

Junsu rolled his eyes and came to stand beside Changmin, who had turned around to rest his back against the car. Junsu seated himself on the car hood, the sideview mirror being their only -block. 'Does it hurt?' he asked innocently, poking Changmin's ribs.

Changmin tsked in answer, rolling his eyes. 'No,' he grunted in apparent discomfort, as he crossed his arms over his chest protectively.

Junsu's eyebrows knotted in confusion. As always, he never got sarcasm even if it slapped him in the face. 'You don't sound like it doesn't,' he answered.

Changmin sighed, internally scolding himself for underestimating Junsu's innocence. He surprised Junsu when he draped his arm over the shorter man's shoulders, leaning his head against Junsu's. When hanging with Junsu, he somehow always felt like he was the older one, the hyung who had to play with his hyperactive little brother.

He liked it though, and he had missed the feeling, of not having Junsu around, of having no one to tease, to play soccer with or just to simply argue with. Yunho had tried hard to replace him, but he never succeeded, never gave him the real happiness Junsu, or even Yoochun and Jaejoong gave him.

'I missed you, hyung,' he said softly. There. He had finally said it. He had finally spat it out. He had missed him.

Junsu smiled to himself. 'I know,' he answered, trying to make his voice sound cocky and playful at the same time.

Changmin rolled his eyes, and pushed Junsu away with unexpected force. Junsu fell over, landing on the asphalt floor laughing.

'Thanks for ruining the moment, hyung,' Changmin grumbled.

Still laughing, Junsu got up tackling the Maknae from the side in a hug, his chin resting on Changmin's shoulder as Changmin faltered, trying to catch his balance.

The two fell over. Junsu expected this. Having enough knowledge of Changmin's injuries and knowing better than to risk them, he twisted as they fell, changing their positions, so he would fall and hit the ground, while Changmin would land on him. It worked, at least to some degree.

Junsu hit the asphalt floor, landing on his back as Changmin landed on his chest, his legs sprawled beside him. 'Yah!' the Maknae yelled, hitting Junsu's chest playfully as he got up. He was laughing though, as he helped Junsu to get up. 'Don't do that!'

Junsu giggled again, suddenly so hyper with happy vibes. He stood up, brushing the dirt of him. 'I missed you too, Minnie,' he revealed, voice dripping with utter sincerity.

Changmin sighed, before grabbing both Junsu's cheeks, pinching them playfully. 'Jun-chan kawaii des~'

Junsu grinned cheekily, his eyes forming halfmoons.

'Alright, enough horsing around. We have a car to buy!' Junsu suddenly announced, squirming out of Changmin's pinching hands and pulling Changmin along by his sleeve, careful to not aggravate any injuries.

Changmin uttered several excuses on not buying, until Junsu swore he was going to leave Changmin right here unless he picked a car. When Changmin revealed he could go home by taxi, Junsu threatened to buy him a Volkswagen mini van unless he choose one on his own.

That seemed to do the trick, as Changmin grudgingly complied to Junsu's command of choosing a car of his own.

In actual fact, he was really excited at the thought of getting his own car, but one must remember that Changmin was currently not in the right state of mind. He was afraid that once he caused Junsu inconvenience, or made him mad, or even ask a favour from him, Junsu would get pissed at him, or even worse... Leave him again. So Changmin tried to swallow his obvious excitement, and say things like 'he didn't need a car', since he 'always used the manager's', and how he was 'kinda tired, so could they go home now.' He even tried his old 'Hyung, I'm hungry, feed me or die', routine, but it still didn't work.

Junsu was adamant. So they better 'buy a car or they weren't leaving'.

Changmin bit his lip. He really wanted a cool car, like Jaejoong hyung's, or Junsu's too. But he couldn't risk it.

So he choose the cheapest car he could find, an ugly, blue Nissan that made Junsu and even the car salesman shake their head in disapproval. He insisted that he liked it, that it was perfect for him.
Junsu sighed, crossing his arms. 'First of all, I'm not buying that ugly thing for you. It's really the sorriest excuse for a car I've ever seen. It would embarrass me if I bought it for you. Secondly, you hate that shade of blue. Thirdly, DO YOU ING THINK I AM SO POOR THAT I CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY A QUALITY CAR FOR YOU?!'

Changmin flinched when Junsu raised his voice at him. Junsu saw and immediately regretted doing so, remembering Changmin's current state. Changmin looked down at the floor, suddenly afraid to say anything. Junsu sighed and came to him.

'Listen, Changmin. I really want to buy a car for you. Not just any car, but a car that YOU want. A car that you'll be proud of, that you'll find any excuse to use to cruise around. A car that the fans will be glad to see you use. A car that will make you happy to have. Because right now, your happiness is my priority. So if you're happy, I'm happy.'

Changmin looked up uncertainly at him. 'You can have any car you want. Any one of them. But it has to be one that YOU want, that you'll enjoy having.'

'Any one?' he asked hesitantly.

'Any one,' Junsu answered, voice insistent.

That seemed to do the trick, as Changmin opened up, following the car salesman around as he brought them to the more expensive, faster ones. Changmin began getting picky, changing his mind every five minutes, going from this car to that, even to some Hurley-Davidsons (expensive motorbikes) which he thankfully didn't choose to have. It had been two hours and Changmin wasn't even done, the salesman showing a seemingly endless stream of cars.

Junsu didn't mind. It was actually quite cute to see Changmin act this way. He had missed seeing this. He had missed the little things, like how Changmin's fingers seemed to drum in excitement when he touched the cars, or how he seemed to skip in his step as he made his way to each new car, or how his 'uwaaaah...' had a certain unmistakable tune to it.

Junsu stayed quiet, happy to just tag along from behind and watch as the salesman tried to explain this and that about the car, only to have Changmin lose interest and go 'oh, that car's nice. I wanna see that one!' as a child would when she got bored with her old toy and saw a new one.

His phone suddenly sounded, indicating a message, and he momentarily took his eyes off Changmin to read it. It was a message from Yoochun.

Yoochun: I need to talk to you.

He frowned, before replying.

Junsu: Later when I get home, okay? ^^ Spending time with Minnie right now.

He pocketed the phone, completely oblivious to the hidden emergency behind the message. He looked up when Changmin ran towards him, excitement in the younger boy's eyes, and completely forgot about the message.

'Hyung, I chose a car! Look, look!'

Junsu smiled at the rare sight of a cute Changmin running towards him. His smile faltered however, when Changmin just seemed to be running closer. And closer... And closer.

'Argh!!' he yelled, when Changmin crashed into him. Like idiots, the two fell to the floor. Junsu instinctively held out an arm to catch his fall, and to prevent Changmin from hitting the floor.

'Whoa,' Changmin yelled, when he once again landed on Junsu's chest. 'That was weird.'

'You landing on me for the second time today?' Junsu grunted. A big Maknae on his chest wasn't exactly the most comfortable thing to have.

'No...' Changmin answered, his lips morphing into a cute o, as he propped his elbows on Junsu's chest, not bothering to move from his position, 'What was weird was the fact that I couldn't stop myself from running. My brakes must be malfunctioning.'

'That doesn't even make sense,' Junsu replied, pushing the Maknae off to sit up. Changmin got off his chest, sitting down in front of Junsu, his legs folded beneath him. He frowned and tilted his head to the side, as he tried to think of the right words to express his predicament.

Junsu squealed internally at the sight of something so cute.

'I couldn't slow down,' he said slowly, only seeming to enunciate his cuteness.

Junsu smiled gently, as he pat Changmin's head. 'You're just excited Minnie. No need to make a mountain out of a molehill.'

Changmin creased his eyebrow in worry, but proceeded to drop it. 'So... What car did you choose?'
Changmin grinned, getting up. 'Look, look,' he said, tugging at Junsu's hand, expecting him to get up as he pointed to where his future car was.

Junsu got up and let Changmin lead him. They walked to where the salesman was standing. The salesman seemed to have a big smile on his face, as if he knew he was going to make one hell of a deal today. He was standing beside Changmin's car of choice.

When Junsu said he could choose any car he wanted, Changmin didn't disappoint.

The car was silver, with black stripes at various places. It had the sleek, stream-lined shape of a sports car, yet had the class of a limousine.

Junsu whistled. 'Changmin?'

'Yeah?'

'You have good taste.'

Changmin grinned. 'I know.'

The rest of the day was spent by Junsu and the salesman discussing this and that on Changmin's chosen car. It seemed Changmin had unknowingly chosen an Audi R8 GT, seemingly one of the best sports car around. It was one of the newer releases from the famed car company, and had the price tag to prove it.

Junsu barely glanced at the number of zeroes on it, as he handed his credit card to the salesman, and was given several paperworks and contracts to sign. Junsu was careful about all this, since he would officially be buying the car under his name.

'Changmin, are you sure you want this car?' Junsu asked, as he read through the papers.
'Ne. Wae? Is it alright with you? Or do you want me to change? I don't mind getting another. If you don't like it, then I'll just--'

Junsu waved his hand to stop Changmin's blabbering. 'Calm down,' he said, looking up from the papers. 'I just want to confirm it with you. Once I sign these documents, you can't change the car anymore.'

'O-oh,' Changmin stuttered, 'Yeah. I think I want this car.'

Junsu nodded his head, going back to the papers.

Silence enveloped them, as Junsu concentrated and Changmin sat silently beside him on the sofa in the office waiting room.

The salesman came back, handing the credit card back to Junsu, and the two of them discussed about the car some more. Changmin grew tired, his fever slowing creeping back on him. He rubbed his hand up and down his arm, trying to warm himself in the air conditioned room, despite already wearing a jacket, and leaned against the sofa arm.

Junsu was done with the paperwork about an hour later, signing the papers and sealing the deal with a handshake.

'I'll see you again soon, sir,' the salesman said.

Junsu nodded and said his formal goodbye. They were to pick the car up several days from now, since there was still much paperwork for the company to do. There was the insurance, the tax to impose, and other stuff one must go through when buying another sports car, and that would take several days to cover. Junsu handed his number to the salesman, who promised to call once the car was deemed ready and all matters were settled. He turned around to talk to Changmin, only to see that the younger boy was fast asleep, curled into himself, obviously cold. He aww-ed at the cute sight, and considered carrying Changmin to the car, but he didn't want to risk the Maknae's injuries, and besides, he knew he wasn't strong enough to lift him.

'Minnie ah...' Junsu said softly, prodding the youngster with his finger, 'Wake up, Minnie.'

Changmin's eyes fluttered open, as he looked up at Junsu. He smiled slightly as he rubbed his eyes. 'Hyung...' he greeted. He closed his eyes as he stifled a yawn. He opened his eyes again, and seemed to freeze when he saw his hyung again.

Junsu could only his head to the side and stare, as Changmin blinked repeatedly and rubbed at his own eyes, before he looked up at Junsu again, his eyes squinting.

'Changmin, what are you doing?' Junsu asked, his eyebrows creased in worry and curiosity.

It took a moment for Changmin to answer, as he seemed to exhale loudly in relief at Junsu's voice. 'I thought... You were just a dream,' Changmin mumbled ever so softly, his voice a mere whisper, as he fiddled with his hands.

Junsu frowned. 'What? What was that? I didn't quite catch what you said.'

'Nothing,' Changmin answered, shaking his head as he got up and began walking away.

'What?' Junsu repeated, curious, as he trailed Min from behind, 'I know you said something. I caught you mumbling. What were you saying?'

Changmin ignored his questions, smiling lazily as he fiddled with his bandages. Junsu irritably swatted his hands away. 'Don't play with your bandages! I put in a lot of effort fixing that!'

Changmin sighed as he dropped his hands to the side. 'Junsu...' he started.

'Hyung!' Junsu yelled, stomping his foot in a childish temper. 'I am hyung!'

Changmin laughed gently, as he draped an arm over Junsu once again. 'Hyung,' he repeated, 'Thanks.'

'For the car?'

Changmin tilted his head in a mock ponder. 'For the car,' he agreed.

Junsu grinned. 'You're welcome.'

'And... For staying.'

'Staying?'

Changmin nodded. 'With me.'

Junsu stayed silent for a while, before replying. 'You don't have to thank me for that.'

Changmin only smiled gently in reply, as they reached Junsu's car. Junsu held his door open for him, and Changmin slid inside. Junsu walked to the other side and slid inside as well, buckling his seatbelt as he revved the engine.

===========================================

This Chapter was sort of a challenge to me, coz I just couldn't figure out the perfect place for them to go!

Seriously, I did drafts for them to go to Seoul Tower, Lotte World (as mentioned above), Itaewon, and even Shibuya! But then it didn't seem appropiate because there wasn't much "meaning" in where they were going, you know? :/

So then I was like, re-reading the whole fic, and arrived at the scene where Changmin said he wanted a car as cool as Jae's and I was like BAM! inspiration XD

If you're wondering, the amazing jumps in Changmin's behaviour e.g; scared, to happy,to traumatised, to hyper, is in fact the normal reaction of those suffering from trauma and denial. They will act fine and even more happier than usual, that is, until the trigger comes, and then everything goes haywire. I know. I did research *wiggles eyebrows*

Shock is something I have yet to fully understand, as the only thing I know about it is that it can cause one to hyperventilate, so I guess Changmin's reactions might not be all that accurate.

Heheh, anyway, on a more serious note, there's this author here on AFF who needs some prayers and well-wishers. She has suspected thyroid cancer and is feeling pretty down, so if you would be so kind as to cheer her up, I'm sure she would appreciate it lots! :D Her name's Hauntress, so do check her out and/or offer her your prayers and maybe some sweet words :)

Lastly, HAPPY NEW YEAR :D

Ps: will be doing some editing on Unwanted Reunion coz the centralized texting is just not working out :/

So if you see some random notices saying I've updated this fic, it MIGHT be a false alarm.

Or it might be that I updated.

I don't know :P

and lol, just to tease you, the fact that Changmin couldn't stop running is going to grow into a serious matter. And Yoochun's message? Well... *evil smirk* its not only for Junsu

Am I being too predictable?

Damn.
