Quite the love story

Protecting the lightning boy

Quite the love story

Lay was still grumbling angrily over the fact that his brother had had when he was so against the idea a whole hour after the incident. He just couldn’t get the picture of finding the two in bed together like that, it was incredibly annoying to think about. He never wanted to see his brother like that again, ever.

”You’re still pouting?”

Lay turned around to see his lover standing beside him with a smile. Lay only stuck his tongue out an answer, and Suho laughed.

”Oh baby you are too sensitive. You must realize Chen isn’t a kid anymore, he is a grown up man with grown up.. needs.”

Lay groaned. ”Don’t say such things about my brother when I can hear you! No, don’t ever say such things!”

Suho just laughed louder. ”You gotta learn someday babe. I mean, Chen wasn’t even a when Xiumin and he had , it’s not like Xiumin was the one to first taint his innocence.”

”If I knew who the bastard was who took my brother’s ity away that man wouldn’t be alive today.”

”Now now, no need to get to violent. You really need to learn to not be so controlling over your brother. You’re getting overbearing.”

Lay sighed. ”I know. I’m just.. worried, you know? I have always taken care of him, and when I saw him again after I left for school I just couldn’t get my head around the fact that he has now grown up and he doesn’t really need me anymore.”

Suho looked at Lay with surprised eyes, but then they softened and he put his arms around the younger. ”Oh baby, Chen will always need you. Even when he’s old and gray he’ll need you. Family always need each other, perhaps not as much as they did when they were younger, but the feeling of needing someone so important in their lived never really go away. It won’t disappear in Chen either. He still needs you, just not in the same way as before. Now he needs you to be reassuring, someone safe he can come to and talk to when he wants to talk, but he doesn’t need you to yell at him for having when he’s all grown up. But he loves you, and he’ll always love you, even though he doesn’t need you as much as before.”

Lay smiled, and melted into the other’s touch. ”You’re right. I’m just being stupid.”

”I’m always right, love. And you’re not being stupid, you’re just being the natural worrywart you were born to be. Remember when we first met? You worried about me even then.”

”Yeah, but I couldn’t help but to. You were so vulnerable, and kind, and you cared about anyone and anything except yourself.”

Flashback

Lay had been going to school for a few months, already having learned a lot more about his powers than before. Alice liked to help him with his studies, and she was an amazing teacher. She was also a fan of letting him do real deal practical work, and that was why he was at the sick bay when the person who was about to change his life entered. He had been sitting around for quite some time, not much happening considering it was a school where you practiced your power-skills, when the door flew open, revealing two students stumbling inside. One was leaning heavily on the other, and while the other looked quite roughed up as well, he looked a lot more concerned about the man he was holding up.

Lay stood up quickly, helping the boy to bring the other inside, laying him down on a bed. He made a quick once over, lightly touching the boy’s body to find out if there was any broken bones or internal bleedings. Luckily, there wasn’t, but he was still bleeding quite a bit from the various cuts on his body, and Lay let his healing powers flow through the boy’s body until all the scratched had healed. Once they had, the boy had fallen asleep, and Lay, the other’s hair lightly before standing up, directed his attention towards the other male who had brought the boy. The male was sitting on another bed, looking interestingly at Lay.

”You healed his really fast, but aren’t you a bit young to already work here?”

Lay smiled. ”You’re absolutely right. Alice just thinks it’s good experience, so she lets me help out here sometimes in order for me to try out what healing is like in real life situations. Situations just like this one actually. What happened?”

”Well, me and Kai over there was training together, but Kai’s powers aren’t exactly stable and mine aren’t either, so he accidentally pushed both me and himself right into a cliff wall when he was teleporting us. That’s what caused all the cuts, and since he was bleeding quite a lot, I thought it was best to bring him here. I feel kinda responsible, you know, since he is younger than me and all that jazz.”

Lay smiled. ”I know what you mean. I have a younger brother, and I always feel like I have to take care of him as well.”

”Is he much younger than you?”

”No, only a couple of years.”

”So he also goes here, then?”

Lay looked away momentarily, trying to decide if he was going to tell the stranger the truth or not.

”You don’t have to tell me if you’re not comfortable with it.”

Lay looked up, surprised. The other man must’ve seen his inner struggle. ”No, it’s okay. My brother, well he doesn’t really have any powers. He hasn’t developed any.”

The man looked slightly surprised, but then he smiled brightly. ”Not everyone can have powers. He’s not any lesser because of that.”

Lay smiled back. ”I know. He’s one of the strongest persons I know when it comes to his mentality.”

The grinned. ”That’s a great skill to posses.”

”Yeah.” There was a small silence, but then Lay cleared his throat, and started talking. ”I’m Lay. If half Chinese, and I’ve been to this school longer than most people, which is also part of the reason that I’m already working here sometimes. I’m pretty short, which I really don’t like, and I’m not as dazed as I look.”

Lay didn’t even know why he was telling the other those things, but it did make him laugh so there was at least something positive. ”Well, hello Lay. My name is Suho, which can be translated into guardian. I have not been on this school for very long, and my powers are all over the place and very… wet. I’m pretty short as well, but I’d like to think I make up for it with my awesomeness.”

Lay just laughed at the other, which made Suho pout.

”Don’t laugh at the awesome person! That’s not cool bro, not cool at all.”

Lay just laughed harder, but this time Suho joined him. Lay found himself enjoying the other’s company quite a bit, which was strange since he usually was pretty wary against new people. They spent some more time jus talking, but after a little while, Suho’s face grew pale and he started swaying slightly where he sat.

”Whoa” Lay said. ”You okay?”

Suho blinked, as if he was trying to get dirt out of his eyes, and nodded. ”Yeah, just a bit dizzy, that’s all.”

”You’re really pale.” Lay stood up, and made his way to Suho. ”Lay down on the bed for me, please.”

”Oh but I’m really okay, no need to worry about me!”

”Please just do as you’re told, mr patient” Lay smirked. ”I’m kinda obliged to check, especially as you’ve paled so much and you’re feeling dizzy.”

Suho sighed in resignation, and laid down on the bed, letting Lay but his hand on his to check him like he checked Kai. At first, Lay was quiet, but when he reached the other’s leg he frowned and made a slight noise, and when he reached the rib area, the sound got frustrated.

”You’ve got a broken rib and a fracture in your leg and you’re telling me you’re fine?! I’m surprised you are even awake and talking right now!”

Suho had the decency to at least look guilty. ”I didn’t think it was that bad, I’m really good at handling pain so I tried no to think about it. I had more important matter at hand, and it felt wrong to ask you to use more of your powers when you had already healed Kai.”

Lay sighed, annoyed. ”You’re an idiot thinking like that! This is what I do for goodness sake, I heal people! I won’t get tired just from healing you as well. Damn it, you need my help even more than he does.”

Suho looked down. ”I’m sorry” he whispered. ”I really didn’t know it was that bad.”

Lay felt guilty seeing Suho’s face, and patted the other’s cheek with a soft smile. ”It’s okay. I’m just.. worried about you I guess. I don’t like that you aren’t taking care of yourself.”

Suho smiled. ”i’ll need to find someone who can help reminding me, then.”

Lay smiled back. ”If you are willing to try, I’d love to be that person.” Not that he was in love with Suho, he was too sensible to get stupid crushes, but it was something about the other that made him want more, that made him want to know him better.

”I’d love to try” Suho smiled back. ”Wanna have dinner when you finish today?”

”Of course, that’d be great” Lay answered back, but then he got back to his professional self. ”But first we need to fix these broken bones, okay? Just lay still, you won’t feel anything, only a warm feeling in your body.”

Suho nodded, but he still visible embraced himself for the sensations to come. Lay just laughed at him.

”Relax!”

Suho took a deep breath, smiling, and then he relaxed the best way he could. ”I’m trying.”

”Good” Lay smiled. He then started the healing process, and Suho closed his eyes, enjoying the feeling of warmth spreading through his body. After a few more moments, he fell asleep, letting Lay work on him with peace in his mind. Once Lay was finished, he the other’s hair and patted his cheek once more, after which he stood up and left the note after writing a note, leaving it for Suho to read.

You, me, cafeteria. I get off at seven thirty, so see you eight?

/Lay.

It wasn’t an immediate change in their behavior towards each other. It wasn’t a story of sudden, powerful love of soulmates like the one Sehun and Luhan experienced, but it was more fleeting, slow. Their feelings towards each other grew day by day, but it took time. They weren’t in a hurry, but rather they preferred having space even as they started dating seriously. Thanks to this they cherished each other in a whole different way than what the HunHan couple did. They slowly got to know each other, kinks and all, without any stress, which made it very comfortable. They learned what ticked the other off, and what made them blush, cry, laugh. It was fleeting, slow, and sweet, but a love story nonetheless. Lay eventually, after months of dating, fell in love in what had become his best friend, and to his happiness, his feeling were reciprocated in the best way possible. Their love was simple, but just as strong, if not stronger, as any other love. It was a love built on trust and laughter, tears and anger. It was the best kind of love, a love that you didn’t really notice were there, but once you did, you couldn’t remember when it had started to seep into your life. It was, in a strange way, always there.

Lay and Suho found out more and more about each other for each day that passed. Lay found out that Suho loved baking, but couldn’t actually bake anything without ruining the kitchen. He learned that his lover was strong, loving, and incredibly stubborn, but with a kind heart that always put others first. What he wanted and needed wasn’t as important as what other people wanted and needed, which was a trait Lay both loved and hated. He wanted Suho to sometimes put himself there first, but he loved how incredibly kind his boyfriend was all the same.

Suho learned that Lay worked hard, and loved harder. While Lay was soft and kind, and always looked confused, he boy way very bright and patient with the world. The only thing that really made him nag was when it was about Suho or his little brother, but other than that there wasn’t much anger in Lay. But as kind as he was outside of bed, Suho soon noticed that Lay was quite the beast inside of it. He liked taking control, and Suho found himself loving it.

Lay loved all Suho’s ideas and stupid actions, and Suho loved Lay even with all the flaws he had. When Lay told him the truth about his powers, he barely reacted, already having figured out the truth. Suho was Lay’s sun, Lay Suho’s star. They were Yin to the Yang, toe to the foot, smile to the tears. They complimented each other, fought hard and loved harder. It was a love story, a strange love story, but what a love story it was.

Current time

Suho smiled, remembering the past. He loved thinking of that first meeting. ”I wonder what would have happened if you weren’t the one working that day.”

Lay smiled as well. ”I’d like to think that we stil would’ve ended up together, somehow. I just can’t imagine a life without you, anymore.”

Suho the younger’s cheek. ”I love you.”

”I love you more.”

”I love you the most.”

They kissed, quickly, before they broke apart, grinning at each other. Then they spent a few moments in comfortable silence before Suho spoke up.

”I worry quite a lot about you too, you know.”

Lay looked at him, surprised. ”You worry about me? Why?”

Suho smiled. ”Because even if yo don’t want to admit it, you are exactly like me. Since you are the healer you fell obligated to take care of everyone and everything, and because of that you tend to forget about yourself. I know, you always tell me that you heal quickly and all that, but I still worry. Because, what if one day you have exerted your energy to the extent that you no longer will be able to heal yourself? What will happen then? I can’t bare the thought of losing you, love, and that’s why I worry. I always worry about you.”

Lay smiled, and brought the on the into a hug. ”Well, then the feeling is mutual. I always make sure that I can heal anyone and anything so that I aways can be prepared to heal you. You mean everything to me, more than my own life, and I’d gladly give my life for you.”

”You could try give your life for me, but I wouldn’t let you, because I would give my life for you as well. Then we’d just die together.”

”I rather that than living without you.”

Suho looked at Lay, eyes soft, smile sad. ”I know, that’s what I feel as well, but we can’t let that happen. There are people here on earth that need us, someone will always need us, and for us to die together because we want to be happy is cowardly. Even though one perished, one needs to live on in order to honor the memory of the other but also to take care of everyone left.”

Lay looked like he wanted to protest, but after thinking about it, he realized his lover (as usual), was right. ”I guess I can’t argue against you. But let’s not think like that. Let’s think about the here and now, about us right now in the moment and not anything else.”

Suho nodded, and leaned in further into the other’s chest, letting the strong heartbeats calm his own soul. Lay was right, no use dwelling on the future. There was nothing you could do to prevent the future anyway. Time had a way of always ending up the way it should, no matter the interference.

Xiumin and Chen was cuddling next to each other, talking with low voices. It was really just blabbering, telling each other about their quirks and weird sides, but they enjoyed it nonetheless. Strangely, it was those kinds of conversations they enjoyed the most. At the moment Chen was deeply concentrated on telling Xiumin about his undying love for old Korean pop music, and about a band he loved, but wasn’t really sure of what they were named.

”I swear Xiumin, there are so many traits about that band that remind me of our group of twelve. They were twelve as well, at least for quite some time, and from what I can see on album coverings they kinda looked like us as well, but you know… uglier. And they didn’t have the same names as us either, the man I guess would resemble me, his name was Jongdae, and the guy you resemble, his name was Minseok. But I swear Xiumin, they were really like us!

”Only they were in a band, didn’t have any powers, and they sang and acted their whole lives.”

”Oh but they did have powers as a concept once, but I’m not exactly sure about what their powers were. But it doesn’t matter what you say, I will still be convinced that we are the newborn versions of that band.”

”Whatever you say, honey.”

”Hmph. You meany. Meany Minnie.”

”I’m not mean!”

”No? I think you are though.” There was a teasing glance in Chen’s eyes, and Xiumin did his best to feign hurt.

”You wound me” he said dramatically, and fell back against the cushions. ”What did I ever do to you?”

Chen laughed, and laid down beside the other. ”Absolutely nothing” he said and kissed the other’s nose. ”But I love teasing you.”

Xiumin grinned back. ”That because you’re evil.”

Chen laughed. ”Of course. I’ve always been evil, you don’t know it.”

”Oh please, you’re like the nicest person I know.”

Chen blushed at the compliment, burying his head into the other’s chest. ”Shut up” he said, words muffled. ”You are the nice one here.”

Xiumin chuckled. ”Only for you babe. Only for you.”

Chen looked up at Xiumin, eyes shining. He then reached up, aiming for the other’s lips. ”Shut up and kiss me, stupid.”

Xiumin laughed, and bent down to do exactly that.

Perfect moments indeed.

At least until the kisses became a bit too heated and they fell off the bed.

They landed on the ground with a groan, Chen on top of Xiumin, the older purposefully taking most of the fall.

”Aouch” Xiumin said, and Chen couldn’t help but laugh.

ing fantastic” he said with a smile.
