It had probably started that time he had offered her a piece of candy in elementary school—it wasn’t as though it was a meaningful action, because he had been sharing with the entire class, as well, but she had always felt a little excluded from the class for being a little too something, and it made her heart swell to hold the brightly-colored sweet in her hands.

She’d tried to be friends with him, then, and while they never really got close, he never picked on her like some of the other kids did, and even congratulated her when she got into the same middle and high schools as he did.

She’d made other friends—close friends—since they had left elementary school, and they had helped her come out of her shell and gain more confidence, and they had finally talked her into it: tomorrow, during the school’s founding festival, she was going to go up to Lee Taeil and hand him her confession letter.
