He’s in his element, he knows everything and he’s so enthusiastic about it that the Slytherin boy feels it affecting his own attitude towards the class—not that he hadn’t been interested in it before, but now he wanted to do as well as he could (it had absolutely nothing to do with hoping the other boy might take notice of him, not at all).
