Another Shot (flashback)
It had been storming and raining all day long. Eunji opened the door to the small apartment and the lights were out. She put the paper bags down filled with things Junghwan said they needed. He wanted to show her how to cook. Something she always thought was unnecessary since it was too time consuming. She hung up her jacket and watched the pearls of water running down the fabric. It was awfully quiet and the lights were out. Junghwan had told her he would be home all day... a feeling started to spread in the chest area ready to choke her.
She started to look for him and searched for him in every room. She should have been checking for signs of intrusion- but she forgot everything she had learned in training and found him lying on the floor next to the table. A lightning lit up the room and there was no mistake- it was Junghwan. She stood there as if she had been struck by lightning herself, and the moment didn't seem to pass. It felt like time just decided to stop and him, just lying there. She didn't dare to move. He was lying there. On his back. A glass of water spilled. Water seeping into the carpet.
“He could still be alive” a spark of hope came up. She didn't want to remind herself, that this could never be the case if someone from her troops had been here- if this was their doing. She took a few steps and couldn't see any blood. “There are many ways to kill a person” the voice of her drill instructor popped in her head underlined by the growling thunder.
She didn't want to believe he would be... she didn't dare to finish her thought. Looking at Junghwan, the space between them seemed like a distance she wouldn't be able to overcome. Every step she took, her feet got heavier until she was barely able to move anymore and sank down to her knees. She lowered her head to his chest trying to find a little beat of his heart. Nothing. She couldn't hear or feel anything. Her eyes started burning and she only noticed she was crying when the tears dropped on her hands.
