Love is beautiful

Choi Sooyoung’s POV

My name is Choi Sooyoung. I’m 24 years old. I graduated from Chung-Ang University with bachelor’s degree, majoring in International Business. Since I was born in a family where most of our family members involved in business, I have inherited my mother’s business who was the owner of the famous clothing manufacturer in Seoul, while my unnie, my older sister, Choi Soojin inherited my father’s business which related to construction business.

People around me, especially my friends claimed that I am lucky to be born in a wealthy family. Well, it’s not that I want to boast myself, but, I’m so lucky to have a rich family. But, I have to admit that although my family is rich, my parents never let us to do whatever we wanted to do, like other typical rich people would do. My parents taught us that, if we want to earn something, we must work hard for it. And, always give a helping hand to the poor and needy. Therefore, me and my unnie used to work as a part-timers in several places like fast food restaurant, bookstore, and cafe during our college time. My parents told us that, we need to learn to be tough and independent in order to become a successful person, and a great leader.

Although I look great and well respected in front of my staffs eyes, but I’m weak inside, especially when it comes to love. I admit, I’m a shy, not so romantic, and not to say a workaholic person too. My only close friends are my unnie, and also my ‘bunny’. Heheh.. not as a real bunny here, but my ‘cute-like-bunny’ personal assistant, Lee Sungkyu a.k.a Sunny bunny. She hates me so much when I called her Sungkyu, but she didn’t protest at all when I called her ‘bunny’. Weirdo!

So, here I am, sitting at my cozy chair, checking on some sample of materials for our next production. Now as winter has arrived, my mother as usual, instructed me to start our new production project, to produce clothing for winter season. She also asked me to hire more new designers to give some new ideas and inputs for our new project.

“KNOCK! KNOCK!”

“Don’t come in!”, I shouted from inside my room as I knew very well the person who was knocking the door. She entered my room with her usual pissed face. I just chuckled.

“Here!”, she put a stack of files on my desk. “Don’t go back home until you’re finish checking these files. Your mom asked me to call them for interview in three days time”, she said with a straight face.

“Mwoh?”, I said in surprise. “By the way, bunny, I wonder whether you’re my PA or my mother’s. She has her own PA, though!”, I said.

“Tsk.. tsk.. sometimes, I pity you, jangshin. Don’t you have a life? And, for your info, Vic is still on vacation, and she will be back a week after Christmas”, Sunny replied as she shook her head, and rolled her eyes annoyingly.

“Jinja? Haishh.. that means, your work would be doubled, right?”, I said while looking at her.

“As you don’t know!”, she replied while putting back her handbag strap on her shoulder. “Alright, I’m going home. Don’t forget to put your initial after you finished checking those files. I need to contact them all on tomorrow morning. Chao!”,  she said while walking towards the door, and waving her hand at me.

“Ara. Night, bunny!”, I replied, waving my hand back at her. I looked at the file stack, and sighed heavily. “I hate my life!”, I mumbled slowly. I put aside the materials sample file, and took the files one by one. As I looked through the candidate's resume, my eyes suddenly got stuck at one of the files.

“Hmm.. cute”, I mumbled while looking at the picture of this candidate. “A cute blondie with a pair of lazy eyes, just like a cat’s eyes. A cute nose and lips.. yahhh.. what was I thinking?”, I thought as I smack on my forehead.

“That dandyu is right. I really don’t have a life”, I mumbled to myself. As I’m interested to know more about this candidate, I continued to read through her resume.

“Hmm.. let see. So, the name is Jessica Jung Sooyeon. Born in 18th April 1989. Oh, she’s a year older than me! Ahh.. born in San Francisco. So, California girl, huh?”, I mumbled while continue reading the resume.

“Oh, wow! Graduated from FIT! (Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, US). I’m sure she must be as good as Calvin Klein, Nina Garcia and Michael Kors! She used to work at Carolina Herrera? Wow, this girls is really something! Mom, I’m definitely will hire this girl!”, I exclaimed while clapping my hands excitedly.

“Why are you so excited, huh?”, Soojin, my older sister suddenly appeared in front of the door. I gasped. She then walked to the couch, and slowly slumped herself on it. I almost forgot that we promised to have our late night supper at our favorite place tonight.

“Oh, unnie! I was checking through the candidate’s resume. Mom asked me to hire more designer for our new project. And, I’ve found one. Definitely a good one!”, I said while smiling widely.

“Ah, I see. Anyway, can you make it fast? I’m super damn hungry. I skipped my dinner just because I promised to go with you for the late night supper”, she leaning her back on the couch while putting her arm on her forehead. She looked tired.

“Haishh.. this shikshin. You’re not going to die if you skip your dinner once, though!”, I snapped at her.

“Whatever, Youngie. Make it fast! I’m hungry and tired hereee..”, she whined as she slowly closed her eyes.

“Ara, ara! Give me 5 minutes to clear up my desk”, I said as I stood up and began to rearrange the files. “Alright, done! Let’s go!”, I said as I took my handbag, and walked towards the couch. I pulled my unnie’s hands, forcing her to get up from the couch.

“Haishh..”, she hissed as she slowly got up. She took her handbag that was on the couch, and started to walk towards the door. We went to the elevator to get to the basement parking space.

Ever since I had involved in car accident almost two years ago, my unnie will send and fetch me from my workplace. If she had to work out of town, then I will use our family’s driver. I still have the trauma, though. I’m not saying that I didn’t driving a car at all. Sometimes, I will drive to the nearest store if I wanted to buy something, but, my unnie must be with me all the time. Hahaha.. poor her!

I used to ride a motorbike during my college time. That motorbike is still in a good condition, but, after the car accident, my parents forbids me to ride it. I sometimes surreptitiously riding my motorbike whenever my parents were not at home.

“Unnie, can I ride my motorbike after this?”, I asked her while she was driving us to the place for our late night supper. She curled up her forehead while glancing at me once a while.

“Wae? Are you already tired riding my car?”, she asked sarcastically.

“Yah.. unnie! I just don’t want to burden you, that's all”, I replied with a serious tone. “Besides, riding a motorbike is kinda cool, though!”, I said with a grin.

“Cool my foot! Did you already forget of what mom and dad have told you before?”, she retorted back, making my good mood dropped suddenly.

“Haishh.. how I hate my life right now!”, I mumbled sadly. She just chuckled.

“Come on, Youngie. You’re a CEO of a big company right now, not a college student. Of course mom and dad will not allowed you to ride your motorbike. A CEO? Riding a motorbike? How can you look cool with that?”, she said as her eyes still focusing on the road.

“Yeah, yeah. Whatever!”, I replied while crossing my arms sulkily like a small kid. Unnie just laughed at my childish act.

Not long after, we finally arrived at the place that we wanted to go. It’s been a long time since we’re seldom got our chance to come to this place due to our busy working schedule. Me and unnie used to eat at this place since our school time. The food that they sell here is so delicious. Although it’s just a simple dish, we will try to find our time to come here whenever we’re craving to eat it. The place was actually a small stall which sells spicy tteokbokki, owned by one of our schoolmate parents.

“Annyeong, ahjumma!”, I happily greeted the stall owner soon as I reached at her stall.

“Hey, Sooyoung. Annyeong! Where have you been? Where’s your unnie?”, the ahjumma, Mrs. Lee replied while walking towards me to hug, and patted on my back.

“Oh, she went back to take something from her car. Sorry because we’re rarely came here, ahjumma. We’re quite busy with our work recently. We missed to eat your tteokbokki, that’s why we came here”, I said with a smile.

“Alright. Just take your seat first, and I’m going to cook special tteokbokki for both of you”, Mrs. Lee said as she walked to the food counter to start cooking. Not long after, unnie arrived at the stall.

“Already found your phone?”, I asked her as she took her seat next to me.

“Nope. I think I left it at my office. Haishh.. such clumsy I am”, she grumbled.

“Indeed!”, I replied while laughing.

“Yah!”, she shouted, and slapped my arm.

“Hah, there you are!”, Mrs. Lee said while approaching our table.

“Annyeong, ahjumma!”, my unnie quickly stood up and hugged the old woman.

“Annyeong, Soojin. It’s been a long time, right?”, she said as she patted on my unnie’s shoulder before she released the hug.

“Yeah. Sorry for not able to come here often. You know, we kinda busy with our work..”, she said as she smiled apologetically.

“Gwenchana. Just come here whenever you’re free, okay?”, Mrs. Lee replied.

“Okay”, unnie said as she sat back on her chair. Mrs. Lee then finished her cooking, and she scooped the still hot tteokbokki from the pan, and put it on two plates. She brought the plates to our table.

“Here’s your tteokbokki. Enjoy your food, okay?”, she said after she laid the plates on the table.

“Kamsahamnida, ahjumma!”, both of us thanked her in unison.

“Cheonmaneyeo!”, she replied. She then took two bottles of soju, and put them on the table. “These are complimentary drinks to both of you”, she said smilingly.

“Oh, kamsahamnida, ahjumma!”, we both said excitedly. We then continued to eat our food and enjoying the drinks while chatting on random things. We spent almost two hours there catching up with Mrs. Lee until it’s the time for us to bid goodbye to her, and headed back to our home.

(Author’s note: Let’s skip to the interview day, okay?)

Three day’s later

Today is the day where me and my mother will become the panel for the job interview. We’re looking for at least two or three new designers to work with us for the upcoming project. Well, I’ve already chose one, which is.. you guys know who, right? right? Hehehe..

After interviewing the 10th candidate, now it’s about the time for Sunny to call the last one. I don’t know why, but my heart beats faster than usual. I just can’t wait to see Jessica Jung in person, and the feeling is just like a fans going to meet her/his idol, something like that. Funny, isn’t it?

“Can I call the last candidate?”, Sunny asked us as she suddenly appeared at the door.

“Sure, Sunny. Go ahead”, my mother replied. Sunny then bowed to her and immediately went out of the room to call the person, the awaited one.

“Annyeong haseyo!”, a soft-like-silk voice been heard soon after the door was opened. Sunny winked at me before she left, as she knew beforehand. I just smiled sheepishly.

“Annyeong haseyo! Please have a seat”, my mother said.

“Kamsahamnida”, Jessica complied, and immediately sat on the chair which opposite with mine. I stared at her like there’s no tomorrow.

“Oh, my god! What a beautiful angel!”, I thought.

“Youngie, do you want to start first?”, I gasped with my mother’s sudden words. Jessica’s eyes straightly looked into mine. She then smiled at me, the sweetest smile that I’ve ever seen in my entire life ever.

“Y-yeah. S-sure.. heheheh!”, I replied as I chuckled awkwardly, receiving a weird look from my mother. I still stare at her, and my mouth is like being locked, as I don’t know what to ask her.

“Youngie!”, my mother snapped at me which causing me to jump off seat. I was so shocked until unexpected words slipped from my mouth.

“Will you marry me?”

“Mwoh?”

:D
