Hyoyeon’s POV

My name is Kim Hyoyeon. I’m 25 years old, and I’ve been living in Seoul city for almost 5 years. I came here after I graduated from high school, and also graduated from dancing academy. After my several times attempting in finding a job, finally I was accepted to work, and have been working with a five star restaurant for about 4 years. I started working as a waiter, and then after few years, the restaurant owner have trusted in me, and I was promoted to a manager of his restaurant. So, here I am, sitting on a chair in my office, checking on several invoices and bills.

Oh, I forgot to tell! I’m also working as a part-time dance instructor at Dongguk University. A friend of mine recommended me to become an assistant to her friend in teaching her students for art in dancing course. Well, when it comes to finding an extra income, I’m gladly to do it, whilst dancing is my passion, like my flesh and blood. I felt calm and free whenever I dance.

Well, I came from a middle-class family. My late father working as a fisherman, while my mother running a small restaurant at my hometown. I have a younger brother who’s still schooling. After my father passed away, I made a decision to help my mother, so, I told her that I wanted to find a better job in Seoul city. My mother was reluctant at first, since she felt worried because I’m her only daughter, and the fact that to move and live in such a metropolitan city makes her scared to let me go. But, after successfully in convincing her that I will take care of myself, finally my mother with her heavy heart agreed to let me go. I feel blessed as finally my mother understands I really wanted to help our family to have a better life. Besides, I’m lucky that my best friend from the same dance academy, Min, was working at Seoul. So, with her help, I managed to find a job, and we lived together in a small apartment in the suburb area of Seoul city.

“KNOCK! KNOCK!”

“Come in!”, I shouted from inside.

“Hyo noona!”, Luhan, one of the restaurant’s chef, and also my friend entered the office.

“Yes, Luhan. What’s up?”, I asked while looking at him.

“Our flour stock almost finished. Can you please ask Kris to buy them immediately?”, Luhan said.

“Sure, saeng. I’ll call Kriss to buy them this afternoon”, I replied.

“Thanks, noona!”, Luhan thanked me. “Ermm.. noona, are you going to have a practice with Min noona this weekend?”, he asked. Well, for your info, me, Min, Kris and Luhan get to know with each other, and became close through our same passion in dancing. We often went to the dancing studio where Min’s working as a dance instructor to have our practice there.

“Of course, saeng. As usual. By the way, I need to discuss with you guys about to create new dance moves for contemporary dance. My friend requested me to do some research and experiment before I can teach my students on next week”, I said.

“Sure do, noona. Alright, I need to continue my work. Don’t forget about the flour stock!”, Luhan said before he went out of the office.

“Arasso”, I replied as I took my phone, and call Kris to ask him to buy the flour stock immediately. After done making the phone call, I continue to resume my work.

Later on that night

“Hyo ah, do you want to eat dinner right now, or later?”, Min, my housemate shouted from the living room. Both of us just came back from work, and I just brought the leftover food from the restaurant.

“I want to take a shower first. You can eat first if you want”, I shouted back.

“Ara!”, Min shouted. With that, I headed out of my room, and walked the bathroom. Although our apartment are small, but we have our own room. That’s the only apartment that we could afford to rent, but for us that’s more than enough. At least we have a place called home to rest and to live at.

“Hyo ah, sorry I can’t wait for you. I’m super duper hungry today”, Min said soon after she saw me went out of my room, and she continued chewing her food.

“Wae? Did you skip your lunch today?”, I asked soon after I landed my on the sofa. We just ate our dinner at the living room while watching TV.

“Dae. We’ve got so many new trainee today, so, my sunbae asked for help. I didn’t realize that I have skipped my lunch time”, Min replied while her eyes glued on the TV screen.

“So..”, Min continued. “Tell me more about your plan this weekend”, Min suddenly asked. I gasped with her sudden question.

“What plan?”, I asked as I was pretty clueless with her question.

“Plan for this weekend tho, what else?”, she replied. I smacked on my own forehead as I almost forgot about my own plan.

“Oh, sorry, buddy. I almost forgot about that”, I said as I swallowed my food first. “Well, Kahi unnie asked me to do my research and experiment on new moves for contemporary dance, so, I need your help, and the boys too. I need you guys to give some ideas on the new moves. I’ll show you some move based on my research I’ve made earlier, and I want you guys to comment, and maybe you can suggest some improvement or addition into my moves”, I said as I explained to her. Min nodded her head meekly.

“No problem chingu yah!”, Min replied.

“Thanks”, I thanked her while continue eating my food. We ate our food while chatting on random things. Time flies without we realized, and Min volunteered to clean up the table, and washed the dishes, while I heading back to my room. Since I just ate my dinner, I usually didn’t go straight to bed, but I spent my time to check on my social accounts through my laptop, to update whatever is necessary. After spent almost two hours, I felt sleepy, and with that I switched off my laptop, and went straight to bed. That’s my routine for every weekdays.

Later on that weekend, at The Amazing Dance Studio

Well, as planned earlier, me and my friends will meet at Min’s workplace as early as 10:00 a.m. Luhan and Kris got their time off on Saturday, so, they’re able to join us for doing our dance training together. Min as usual, went out for a while to fetch her girlfriend, Fei from her place before she could join us.

Although I felt weird at first when Min told me once that she fell in love with a girl, and to the fact that she has a girlfriend, I really don’t mind about her love interest since it’s her personal life. Sometimes, Min will share her story about Fei, on how they met, until they decided to take the next step of their relationship. Fei is a good girl, and I could see that both of them were really in love with each other.

“Hey, sorry we’re late!”, Min said soon after she and her girlfriend entered the dance studio.

“It’s okay, buddy. No big deal. Alright, shall we start our discussion now? I will do the demo of my new dance move, and I want you guys to give your comments, arasso?”, I said to them.

“Arasso”, all of them replied in unison. With that, Min started to play the CD, and when the first beat of the song being heard, I started to move my body, in sync with the music played. After 5 minutes of dancing, they started to throw their comments, and gave some ideas on how to beautify the dance movements.

After almost about 3 hours, finally we decided to stop our practicing since it’s already a lunch time. We decided to have our lunch together at Korean food restaurant which is located just nearby the dance studio.

“Guys, just order what you want to eat, it’s on me”, I said to them.

“Wahh.. thanks noona!”, Luhan and Kris eyes beamed in happiness when it comes to free food. Aigoo these two boys.. tsk tsk.. kekeke..

“Thanks buddy! What’s the occasion, huh?”, Min asked as she wiggled her brows while smiling in mischevious. I just laughed.

“There’s no special occasion, dude. It’s just my token of appreciation for you guys for helping me out today”, I replied smilingly.

“If so, we’re willing to help you all the time!”, Luhan exclaimed happily which earning a smack from me.

“Yah! No free food for you next time!”, I said playfully, makes him pouted. All of them laughed at his cute expression.

After placing our orders, I excused myself to go to the restroom. While I was looking at my phone screen, I accidentally knocked down someone.

“THUD!”

“OUCH!”

“Huh? I-I’m sorry.. are you okay?”, I frantically asked to the person on the floor which I have knocked down just now. She just shook her head. I helped her to get up from the floor.

“A-are you okay?”, I asked her again. The girl was cleaning the dust on her dress.

“Gwenchana. I’m okay”, she said.

“I’m so sorry. I wasn’t notice you earlier. I’m sorry!”, I apologized.

“It’s okay. I fine”, she replied with a smile. I gasped. Her smile.. why it looks so sweet to me?

“Hey, are you okay?”, she asked me with a worried look.

“Huh? I-I’m okay. I’m okay.. hehehe..”, I replied clumsily. She just smiled while looking at me.

“Alright, I need to go now”, she said as she started to walk away from me.

“Y-yeah, sure, go ahead. Sorry once again!”, I replied to her. She just waved her hand at me before she went to her table. I continued to walk to the restroom. But, my thought still on the girl whom I got bumped just now.

“Hyo, don’t tell me.. are you interested on that girl?”, I mumbled to myself soon after I entered the restroom. “Haishhh.. just cut the crap!”, I snapped on my thought, and continued with my business.

After we had our lunch at the restaurant, we decided to spend our time together at the shopping mall, playing games in the arcade, and watching movies before we went back to our respective home.

Monday afternoon, at Dongguk University

My dance class schedule usually began on Monday and Tuesday afternoon. That’s the time given by Kahi unnie since she got another lecture on the same time. Kahi unnie is Min’s friend, and she’s one of the part-time dance trainer at Min’s workplace. That’s how she got to know her, and coincidentally she was looking for an assistant to help her to teach dance course as one of the compulsory course that Acting student should take during their third semester of study.

So, here I am, at the dance studio which located at the Faculty of Arts building, waiting for my students to come. As the new semester has just started, I got so many students who registered under this course, but unfortunately I can’t handle too many students at one time since I need to give individual attention to each students as to watch and to correct their dance movement. That’s why Kahi unnie suggested to have two days class, so, I could break them into two groups.

After a few minutes, the students slowly entered the dance studio. After checking on their attendance, I started the class by theory lessons, and then followed by basic dance training. While I was busy correcting my students’ dance movement, suddenly the door swung opened. A tall girl entered inside, and quickly put her bag on the vacant locker. All of the students eyes were on her, and she bowed to them before she walked to me.

“Joesonghamnida seonsaengnim! Sorry I’m late! I have a students council meeting just now”, she said as she bowed without looking at me.

“Gwenchana. Go and take your place over there” I replied with a smile. She then slowly lifted up her face and..

“You?”
