Slowly, Chansung recuperates. The days passed leisurely and quietly. Every so often he got a fever and his muscles still felt atrophied, but nothing worse. Wooyoung was still avoiding the bakery but Chansung was beginning to not mind it so much. He would wait for him.

Taecyeon had begun his preparations to leave and head back to the Capital. His mother agreed that they would return to the Capital at the same time to not raise suspicions about why she was in Fortune.

A few days leading up to their departure, Chansung came down with another fever. Min-Jun ordered him back to bed rest and he did so without argument. Otherwise he spent most of his days in the bakery, minding the counter with his two siblings. With them, and the sparse visits from his mother, as well as the rest of the bakery crew (minus Wooyoung), it really was a full house.

It was a bright morning when the wolves came for their last visit and Chansung found himself seated between Jinwoon and Renegade. Erin pushed all the cubs in his direction which led to them jumping around and thanking him.

“I wasn’t the only one...” He said helplessly.

“So, you helped a lot!” They cheered and pranced all around him.

“Are you really not coming with us, wayfarer? One asked.

                Chansung nodded, “I'm staying here.”

Jinwoon snorted and pawed at his leg.

“Yes, I think I’m very close to what I’ve been searching for.”

Erin tilted her head. “Well, I personally am happy to hear that.”

“We should probably get a move on.” Renegade sighed. “I’m glad we could do a proper goodbye this time.

“We will see each other again. If you’re back in Nocturna I’d definitely come for a visit.” Chansung assured and hugged Jinwoon tightly. "You're family to me. Having you here right now...means a lot to me."

The timber wolf whimpered and him. “You are not well yet...”

Chansung shrugged. “I’ll survive. You know I manage somehow.”

“Yes, but you’re still only one individual and you were already under stress. Please remember you don’t have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders, wayfarer.” Erin grumbled.

                “I’m pretty selfish, Erin.”

“Yes, we all know.” Jinwoon growled.

Chansung couldn’t help but smile. “You still like me for it.”

Jinwoon snorted and brushed his head against him. “I’d stay if you told me to.”

Chansung shook his head and released him. “I truly feel flattered by how much you chase me, wolf boy.”

Jinwoon snorted and huffed. "Don't call me wolf boy-"

"Besides, wayfarer, we can see very clearly the effect that your real Significant is having on you. They can make you desperate and cause you to make irrational decisions sometimes." Erin said with the most irritating amount of smugness.

"What are you talking about - who said anything about a Significant?" He huffed.

Erin laughed, "I tire of this denial card you keep trying to pull. You can't fool a wolf's nose, Hwang Chansung."

Jinwoon snorted and then they shared a silent gaze. "Take care of yourself, Chansung. Come visit home once in a while."

Chansung smiled and nodded, "I will."

Jinwoon gave him a last once over before nodding and giving a low howl to the rest. They all got together and gave a round of howls before dashing out into the trees. Chansung watched them go until he could no longer see them. It was so quiet already. A part of him itched to run after them, but other part was louder and stronger. It was telling him to stay.

*

The rowdiness continued as life at the bakery went on. Kaiden fought and cried and hid when their mother tried to tell him he had to return to the city with her. Chansung had finally managed to get him seated quietly at one point, but only with Cho Hee’s help. Their mother was less than pleased and Kaiden hid his face in his chest.

“He would be alright here, mom.” Chansung said softly. He just had to try even though he knew it was pointless. “I’m not going anywhere for a while.”

“But what if you do go wandering, would you take him with you? He’d be in danger.”

Chansung’s jaw tightened. “I would never put any of my brothers or sisters in danger.”

She straightened up then. “Sorry...I didn’t mean it like that.”

“Whether you meant it or not I don’t care. I...there’s still a lot I haven’t discovered yet about Fortune and I haven’t been able to look into everything. I can continue my work from here." He said and looked at her with desperation. "Kaiden would be fine and he loves it in Fortune. Besides, it’s not like he has an obligation with school or anything.”

“I just...Kaiden has never been away from my side for that long.” She admitted. “Not only that, but if they realise I’ve left my youngest son in Fortune where we have no relatives, what would people think?”

Chansung smiled then. He saw right through her excuse as she gave little glances around Min-Jun's home. “Well, you had no trouble handing me over to auntie Mei for a year-”

“I get so flustered whenever I have to make decisions about you bunch of troublemakers.” She said and wove her hands through Cho Hee’s hair.

“Are you coming home for the holidays, big brother?” Cho Hee asked.

Chansung sat back and worried his bottom lip. “I don’t know yet, babe.”

“Papa said you’d be able to come home by Christmas...” She said.

“Cho Hee, remember what I told you.”

Chansung looked between them curiously. “What are you hiding from me now?” He couldn’t help but ask, curiosity piqued.

“Nothing!” Cho Hee sang and raced around and hugged him.

“So?” Chansung said and returned to looking at his mother.

“He might hate me for it for a little while, but no, Chansung, I’ll be bringing him back with me.”

Chansung’s own spirits fell. He knew it was a long shot and that she was going to say no, but he had his hopes. The worst thing was seeing his brother just sitting quietly, no rambunctious laughter, even Cho Hee became lethargic.

*

The night before they were leaving they slept in his arms. He himself found no rest. When would he get to hold them again? What about Serenity, Snow and Ae Cha? He watched over their sleeping faces and when the time came to wake them, neither Cho Hee or Kaiden let their mother near them. Kaiden let Min-Jun carry him to the truck, though, thankfully. Chansung had his hands full with Cho Hee.

It was like all the tears and sadness she had been holding in finally released. Her grip on him was so tight, it was painful.

“Shh, calm down babe, shh. You know where I am, you know how to reach me, and I promise big brother will be much more careful.”

Then the reality hit him, he wasn’t allowed to go to the train station with them. With the announcement concerning the freed hybrids and the arrested Catchers, there would be reporters and government officials present. The police would also be there.

"I don't want to go back." Cho Hee said brokenly.

Chansung kissed her cheeks and hugged her tightly. "I wish I could keep you here."

Something felt wrong. He didn't want to let her go, but he also knew that he didn't have a choice. Cho Hee didn’t fight as he picked her up. Pain shot through him. His muscles were still tender and in poor condition, his lack of sleep didn’t help either. As he settled her into her seat, his hands began to shake.

Min-Jun stood with him, Kaiden in his arms. Chansung took him and hugged him tight. “Big brother loves you, you know that, right?” Kaiden nodded. “Be good for big brother. I’m sure we’ll see one another again soon, okay?” He didn’t want to lie but he didn’t know how to make this any easier.

Cho Hee was holding back her tears again.

Taecyeon promised to be back for the holidays.

“Don’t make a promise you’re not sure you can keep, Taecyeon,” Min-Jun replied.

Chansung believed him though, his determination was infectious. Taecyeon would be back. Chansung looked at Min-Jun as he handed Kaiden back. Min-Jun’s hand gently cupped his chin in understanding before sliding into the truck.

                Then, they were gone.

Chansung’s hands dropped to his sides and he collapsed into the snow. The ache of having to let his siblings go, of the feelings his mother brought here had him gasping painfully. He just wanted to breathe but it was almost too hard.

Feeling tender hands at his back, he turned and found Wooyoung.

"You're still healing, Chansung." He soothed as he helped him up. "Go inside and rest."

"Where..?" He swallowed his words, at least he tried. "Why weren't you here, Wooyoung?" He almost yelled. He didn't mean to but he was angry. Not being able to handle this sudden interaction, he didn't wait for a response and ran back inside. He didn’t stop until he was in the guest room. The only comfort was the lingering scent of his siblings and that he had finally gotten to hold them after so long.

It was a couple hours before he could manage to make his way down the stairs. Chansung felt like the scum of the earth. It was so quiet now. Min-Jun fixed him some lunch and asked him if he could mind the counter, and he did. After some time, Min-Jun did nothing but come and sit beside him. They took care of customers and were given small gifts. After one of the regulars came in saying she was sorry Taecyeon had left so soon, Min-Jun went back and started baking. Even when Junho came in for his afternoon shift, it was still quiet. Chansung couldn’t handle the anxiety between them with his state of mind so he sent him into the kitchen to help with Min-Jun.

The tension seemed to dissipate and the atmosphere sparked with positivity when Min and Ellen walked through the door.

Smiling as they entered, he was surprised when Min bowed deeply and was joined by Ellen.

“Thank you...Chansung, for bringing me home.” Ellen says quietly.

“Well, you gave me some good directions when I first got here.” He chuckled, making the rabbit blush. “Besides, we hybrids have to look after each other.”

                “I don’t know what I can do as thanks - "

“Just...live your life. You don’t owe me anything.” He tried to convince.

Min gave him a look of disbelief. “You...I don’t know how you can be so selfless.” She said quietly and gripped her coat tightly. “I don’t know what I would have done if he and Ellen hadn’t come back. I’ve already given my thanks to Min-Jun. My family is finally supporting Taecyeon and Mr. Hwang in their endeavours to create peaceful and safe places for hybrids.” Min shut her eyes tight and her expression looked pained. “Now...” Her voice trembled. “Now more people will understand the pain, and believe our stories. They can’t dismiss the pains of our friends anymore, or our rights.”

Chansung smiled softly and nodded, “yes, and when people like you speak up, it creates bigger change, and makes our united voices that much stronger.”

                “Oh! Junho, Min is here!”

                “What?!”

Chansung grinned and Min raced into the back. Ellen came nearer and handed over a bag.

“It isn’t much, I realise. But I do know that Wooyoung and Min-Jun also like these from our shop. I also put in some of our meat buns for you.” She said and flushed. “Thank you again and if you ever want something from the restaurant, just tell them it’s on me, okay?”

                Chansung nodded, “alright.”

She waved and followed after Min. In no time she was dragging Min out the door and waved once more.

“Oh! Did we get a gift?” Min-Jun asked as he came in.

“Ellen said it was something you and Wooyoung liked.”

Min-Jun’s eyes lit up and he opened the bag. Inside were four entrees of a beef dish with rice and vegetables. Min-Jun smiled as he handed over a paper bag with Chansung's name on it. Inside were indeed those lovely meat buns.

“Wooyoung! Junho! Lunch or supper or whatever is already made. Come on, Chansung.” Min-Jun hauled him into the back where Wooyoung was setting the table for four. He hadn’t even realised that Wooyoung was home.

Chansung took a seat apprehensively and they ate together, for the first time it seemed, in ages. They ate largely in silence, but Min-Jun spoke to all of them every now and again, asking how they were. Junho was more conversational than either he or Wooyoung. It was awkward, but it wasn't discomforting.

After their meal, Chansung sat together with Junho at the front until closing, and they cleaned up and packed away the day-old-bread together. Junho's father came to pick him up and bowed deeply.

"Thank you for bringin my son back to me, Chansung."

                "You're very welcome, Mr. Lee."

Junho gripped his hand tightly before leaving with his father.

Suddenly more than tired, he locked the front of the shop and made his way up the stairs to sleep. Collapsing onto his bed he succumbed to his exhaustion instantly.

*

Waking in the middle of the night to warmth, he noticed that it was still dark. Although, what surprised him was finding Wooyoung at his side. He remained very quiet. This is the closest they’ve been in a while. What was he doing in his room? He makes to shut his eyes but hears Wooyoung snort.

                “Stupid kit...”

Relieved at hearing his pet name he can’t resist smiling. “I’m not the only one...”

Wooyoung tenses before slowly turning to face him. “I don't...I had no right to be mad, I'm sorry.”

“It’s okay...” He mumbled, smile never fading, to which Wooyoung responded with a shake of his head. Taking a deep breath, he met that contemplative gaze. “I’m sorry, Wooyoung. I just couldn’t...I couldn’t hold back, and I lost my temper. I haven’t been able to focus very well since I’ve come here, and not being able to depend on my senses kind of affected my reasoning.”

                “Kind of?”

“Alright, really affected me. It’s...really...” He sighed.

“Forget about it, I was wrong for being so mad at you for everything you did. I just...nevermind. The main thing is you came back and everyone is okay. We were really lucky and fortunate, not everyone is. And, I honestly and truly have no right to be mad...”

Chansung nodded and looked over him slowly. He felt like he hadn’t spoken with Wooyoung in ages - hadn't seen him. He really missed him. “Ne, Wooyoung, what do you think of foxes?” He blurted out suddenly.

                “Me?”

Chansung sniffed at the air, “no, the other Wooyoung.” He was jabbed in the arm and then his sides were tickled. “Stop – I’m sorry!” He laughed.

Wooyoung huddled nearer to him and hugged his knees. For some reason, he looked very small. “Personally, I think they’re unfortunate.”

                Chansung tilted his head, “Oh?”

“Everyone chases after them, trying to find this stupid Fox Realm, and for what? I think they’re sad, lonely, and pitiful.” Wooyoung buried his face into his arms. “They have avid admirers and they only grace them with a glimpse of their presence, because they live in constant fear of being found, and...potentially hurt.” Wooyoung’s fingers gently brushed against his cheeks startling Chansung a little; he realised tears escaped his eyes. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you.”

Chansung closed his eyes and covered them with his arm. “No...today was just...really heavy. Actually the past couple months have been an emotional roller coaster. Especially when - I didn’t expect to see my siblings...or my mother. I’m just...I feel torn up inside about a lot of things...” He said and clenched his hands into tight fists.

"I did notice..." Wooyoung said softly. "Wanna talk about it?"

Chansung smiled and then it just all bubbled to the surface. “I really like my life here, and I know I’m on the right path, but I really don’t know where to go from here or what to do.” He looked up at Wooyoung once again. “I’m trying to make my life whole, Wooyoung. I really don’t care about the Realm or anything like that,” he noticed that same flicker of colour in those dark eyes. He was beginning to feel uncomfortably hot again. Was his fever coming back? “I need to find the answer to my dream. It almost seems like a fool’s dream. It’s the cruelest fate, trying to find what will make you feel whole, when you don't really have a memory of what you're looking for. At the same time, I don’t think I’ll feel complete if I don’t find who I’m looking for...”

“Oh? Sounds like you're talking about a Significant.” Wooyoung came to lay down beside him. “How romantic...”

                “Shut up...” He grumbled.

“Really though, Chansung, if this is so important, why haven’t you left to continue your journey yet? I mean, you’re close right? That means what you’re looking for can’t be far away...”

“Because...” Chansung covered his face once again. That was such a cruel question, especially having it come from Wooyoung. “Because this is where I’ve been told I need to be, and where I feel I need to stay – I like it here and...” he began to pant. His body heat was becoming unbearable. What was wrong with him?

“Shh, calm down, you’re overexerting yourself. We shouldn’t be talking about something like this right now.” Wooyoung vanished from his side, relieving some of the heat, but then he was back, removing his arm, and resting a cool cloth against his forehead. "You really need your rest."

Chansung couldn’t take it anymore. He knew Wooyoung was the cause of all this. The heat was relentless. Without thinking, he raised his arm and cupped the back of Wooyoung’s neck. His mind was hazy and his body felt slightly numb.

                “Chansung..?”

Slowly, tenderly, he brought them closer and his lips brushed against the smooth skin of his cheek. He needed to touch him desperately. Wooyoung avoided him for so long, it hurt him deeply. They were so very close, and Chansung could see it clearly now, the beautiful glint of silver in those dark depths. The breath between their lips was hot and moist. He was right there. Chansung need only press forward and the touch he desired would become reality.

It was also so tender, and light. It was almost like it never happened, when their lips brushed together. Then it was like wildfire, one that the cool cloth could and would not diminish. He didn’t know who pressed forward more, and he didn’t care. What mattered was he finally got to touch him intimately. Hands were smoothing over bare skin, and their kiss became heavy and needy. Everything began to feel hazy. Chansung felt completely overwhelmed and wanted more and more.

Wooyoung, however, pushed him back. He felt immediate rejection until a teasing thumb smoothed across his lips. “If you want to stay, kit, I’d be very, very happy.” He soothed, eyes illuminated by the soft light and completely silver, and kissed Chansung's nose tenderly. “Now, get some sleep.”

Exhaustion hit him and the haze dissipated. Groaning, he pressed the back of his hand into his eye. What was that just then? “I’m tired...”

“So sleep, silly kit.” The infuriating man chuckled.

“You’re such a jerk to me.”

Wooyoung collapsed against him and laughed. “I told you, it’s how I show my affection.”

Chansung closed his eyes and basked in the heat of Wooyoung’s body against his own. “I...don’t want to let go of either dream, Wooyoung,” He murmured, “and it’s exhausting me.”

“Shh, like I said, just sleep.” Wooyoung held his face with both hands. “You’re an amazing man, Hwang Chansung. Even if things seem confusing right now, I promise it won't be soon.”

Chansung realised how close they had been and that they kissed! Not only that but how near Wooyoung was to him now! His face, neck, ears and chest became hot with his blush. Didn’t Wooyoung realise what he did to him? Didn’t he realise what just happened?! Why wasn’t he totally offended or trying to leave?!

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

                “We just-"

Wooyoung instantly covered his mouth. “Not tonight!” He was blushing!

                “But-”

Wooyoung’s hand pressed against his mouth harder. “No! Shh! Shut up!" He laughed. "Once you’re all better and rested, I think things will become clearer. I just...really want you to rest, okay? I don't want to see you in pain anymore. I want you to rest and be well.”

Hearing the weakness in Wooyoung’s voice finished him. He couldn’t win. Tingles raced up and down his spine and jitters filled his stomach. He nodded, “okay...”

Wooyoung dipped the cloth in the water again and rested it against his skin. “Please...don’t ever scare me like that again.”

Chansung smiled, “I’ll do my best.”

Wooyoung made to rise but Chansung caught his wrist and pulled him close. “What is it?”

“Can you...” He blushed again and swallowed hard. “Can you stay? Please stay, Wooyoung.”

Wooyoung’s cheeks went pink again but he smiled, “of course, kit.” He settled down beside him and Chansung held his hand tight. He was truly exhausted now, but content. Yes.

Facing Wooyoung he closed his eyes and succumbed to a dreamless, deep slumber. This was exactly where he wanted to be.

                *

Chansung awoke to the lovely sight of Wooyoung, who was still beside him, and was huddled into a ball and sleeping deeply. Looking over his face, Chansung noticed the lines of worry and dark circles under his eyes. He didn't know where Wooyoung had been or what he had been doing, but he didn't like that he looked utterly exhausted even in sleep. Managing to get up, he realised that his body was almost devoid of any type of pain and heat. For the first time in a very long time, he feels almost normal. Then, he realised why. Wooyoung’s scent was everywhere. His leopard swirled within him and felt that pleasant warmth everywhere. It probably wasn’t a good idea to pick him up and bring him to his room. Besides, after what happened the night before he didn’t know what Wooyoung’s feelings were towards him anyway.

Then, it blossomed. The heat in his body surged and he turned. His leopard was desperate for intimate touch, those feelings of desire rippled within him in waves. It was manifesting physically, and becoming visible and obvious. Even Min-Jun knew! He hadn’t gotten laid in months, and while he didn’t mind it so much, having Wooyoung sleep so defencelessly beside him and finally release his scent, that was too much. He took care of his problem below while in the shower. This wasn't good. More than before he needed to talk to Teri.

Mind a haze as he once again was tormented by those silver eyes, he sighed. It figures he’d be attracted to a silver-eyed hybrid.

Making his way into the kitchen, he finds Min-Jun already baking.

“So, you two are making up nicely?” The bear teased.

                Chansung blushed instantly, “shut up!”

“You two are so cute.” Min-Jun laughed.

“It isn’t like that...” He whined.

Min-Jun tugged him close and cupped his chin. “I can smell it, Chansung. I have been wondering -”

"Please...don't." Chansung felt even hotter. “I told you, it isn’t like that between us.”

“You’ve been exhibiting signs for weeks.”

Chansung stared at him then. "Is that why you had Taecyeon make moves on me?"

"It makes me feel worse for that now. I know you're probably not up for tellin' me anything yet, even though you're desperate for touch."

That made Chansung's whole body ignite with embarrassment.

                "You hide it very well."

                "When did you realise?"

"You're not a normal alpha, Chansung. I had an inkling of suspicion when the lynx came."

Chansung balked and had to lean against the counter. "Seriously? Is that why Wooyoung hides his scent?”

                “You’re not that dense.”

                Chansung hissed. “I don't know, Min-Jun...”

“He’s been showing signs too, for a long, long time. That's how I knew...there's two sides to you. You're quite the impressive and intriguing cat, Chansung.”

Shaking his head, he gave him a questionable look. “Min-Jun, when someone hides their scent-"

“You know how much effort it takes to hide your scent for weeks. On top of never showing your hybrid too, that’s bound to make someone exhausted.”

“But then why would he do it?” He asked a little more than aggravated.

                “Curious huh?”

"Just tell me," Chansung whined and pushed him, “sometimes I just plain hate you.”

Min-Jun laughed. “I’m beginning to think you really, really like me.” He ruffled his hair and Chansung hissed. “Eat some breakfast.” He indicated to the table and sat across from him.

“Besides, if that were really true I would’ve slipped into heat...”

“So, you don’t think he hid it from you to stop that?”

Chansung stopped in the midst of serving himself and looked up at him.

Before he could say anything else Wooyoung was making his way down the stairs. Hair in complete disarray, eyes and cheeks more puffy than Chansung thought was possible, he couldn’t resist cooing.

“I feel like I slept like a log...” He grumbled.

Min-Jun side-eyed him and whispered, “he didn’t even make it half an hour of sleep without you, Chan.”

Eyes as wide as possible, he swallowed hard and blushed furiously. Sure, it was super intense when they kissed - they kissed! Chansung almost fumbled with his plate and utensils.

"..." He hissed under his breath.

“Good morning, my cutie.” Min-Jun greeted and pulled him onto his lap. “Chansung and I were just talking about Significants and heat cycles.”

Wooyoung’s gaze landed on him, blushed, and muttered, “why am I not surprised?”

He collapsed onto the table. He wanted to die. The embarrassment of everything that had happened last night and now this morning caught up with him. “Why is this my life..?” He rose up and looked over Wooyoung.

“I think you've got it made." Min-Jun said with a wink.

"Yah, can you not flirt first thing in the morning, please?" Wooyoung grumbled.

“Don’t worry. I know Chansung's heart is set on cute, puffy cheeked, whiny, sarcastic, black-haired hybrids.”

Chansung was horrified! He felt like he was going to have a heart attack. He didn’t think Min-Jun would actually insinuate anything between him and Wooyoung with them both in the room so openly!

                “Min-Jun!” Wooyoung grumbled, cheeks coloured.

“Why are you blushing?!” Chansung pointed an accusatory finger at him.

“Ne, babe, was it nice to sleep in the same bed as-"

“Good morning!” Junho called and raced into the kitchen.

“Oh! There’s our little pup, how are you this morning?” Wooyoung was dumped unceremoniously onto Min-Jun’s chair as the bear Elder made his way over.

“You’re in an awfully good mood.” Junho commented suspiciously but let Min-Jun hug him. “What’s wrong with you two?”

“Oh, they’re just being silly.” Min-Jun said. “We’re talking about Significants and heat cycles, you know, when the attraction starts and how your body-"

Wooyoung gasped, raced over and covered Min-Jun’s mouth. Chansung placed his hands over Junho’s ears.

“Shut up!” Wooyoung grumbled. “You’re as bad as the cat!”

“Oh?! Everyone is so lively this morning!” A new voice starts.

Chansung turns to find a handsome, small-faced man leaning in the back doorway.

“Oh! There’s a new face I’ve never seen, and quite beautiful too.”

“Nichkhun!” Min-Jun cheered and made to give the man a hug.

Chansung stole back in surprise as he surged forward, and a pair of glasses flashed into view. The man slipped them on as he looked over him.

“How did you find this treasure, Min-Jun?” He inquired as he looked over him.

“Well, people wander here all the time, including handsome cats...” Min-Jun grumbled. “You totally rejected my hug.”

“Oh stop it.” Nichkhun dismissed and focused his attention on him again. “Teri wasn’t lying. You really are quite the looker.”

Chansung stumbled back and kept his distance. He didn’t know what was throwing him off edge, but there was something he just couldn’t trust about this man. Well, he didn’t know if it was him per se, but something wasn’t right.

“Oh, so clumsy and cute.” He laughed but returned to Min-Jun’s side. “Where’s the cutie?”

Chansung then realises Wooyoung is nowhere to be found.

“He was here a second ago.”

“Ah well, I think you and I could have a lot of fun, ne, pretty kitty?”

“Absolutely not!” He rejected as firmly as possible. This man didn’t have the same aura as Taecyeon, but he had the exact same teasing nature.

“Hmm...” He wandered closer again. “But you’re at your limit, aren’t you?”

Chansung growled low. There was seriously something bothering him and this guy was aggravating his nerves. He tried to calm himself when he noticed Junho tense up.

“Whoa, now, whoa.” Min-Jun intervened and rubbed the back of Chansung's neck briefly, making him focus on him. Chansung glanced at him and then the bear was between them. “Khunnie, as much as I love your company, I’d appreciate you not disturbing him too much. We’ve all been through enough the past week - plus Chansung and I are still healing.”

Nichkhun’s expression went serious, “for me not to do my regular teasing, yikes. Taecyeon told me some of what happened. Where is he anyway?”

                Min-Jun’s expression fell slightly.

“Taecyeon and Mrs. Hwang both left on the train together yesterday.” Junho said.

Nichkhun looked alarmed for a couple seconds but Min-Jun waved his hand. "She was here?" This caused the small faced man to sigh and his attention on him vanished completely. “Come on, old boy, we should have a chat.”

“Old boy, you’re one to say that to me!” Min-Jun snagged him in an arm hold. “You’re the old boy.”

“Shut up!” They argued as they went up the stairs.

Chansung slowly collapsed into his seat, appetite gone. He didn't miss that obvious contempt at the mention of his mother. Not only that, this Nichkhun character had gotten way too close to him with that weird scent. It was like a mix of two scents, one was definitely feline. Then, he noticed Wooyoung at the back door.

                “Hey!” Junho called.

“Where are you going?” Chansung asked.

“I...have to escape, either come with me or be subjected to his clingy nonsense.”

Chansung didn’t hesitate. He slipped into his boots and coat and managed to grab a hat.

“Hey, what about me?” Junho grumbled.

“You'll be fine. You've got armour against erts. Watch the counter!” Wooyoung called out as he ran. He was already running through the backyard and vanishing through the fence.

“Sorry, Junho!” He said and raced after him.

When Wooyoung moved, he moved. He dodged around trees and leapt down little hills. Chansung didn’t know why he was running so fast or trying so hard to get away, but he didn’t let it bother him. The scent was gone and he was alone with Wooyoung. Well, actually, that may not have been a good thing.

Soon, Chansung realised they were in a familiar place: the fox dens.

“So, who is this ‘Nichkhun’?” He asked as he finally sat down. His body was still a little tense and he was completely out of breath.

“He’s a pain in the .” Wooyoung grumbled and crouched down beside a small open brook.

“Now, now, I am genuinely curious.”

“Because he was in your personal space?”

Chansung flushed, “Why would that entice me..?”

“You don’t seem to mind me when I do it.”

Chansung sighed, “Seriously? You're really asking me that.”

“I just know him. He's very good at seducing people.”

Chansung leaned back, “You sound awfully worried about what isn't going to happen.”

Wooyoung sighed, “he likes cats as much as Min-Jun.”

“Oh? Fearing that I might fall for him? Jealous Jang has appeared.”

                “I’m not jealous!” Wooyoung grumbled.

“Mm-hmm...besides, you don't need to worry.”

Wooyoung blushed and made to say something, but then said, “I’m hungry...”

                Chansung laughed loud and free.

“Anyway, you promised to show me your hybrid if I made up with Taecyeon.” Wooyoung was drawing patterns in the snow now, and his puffed up cheeks honestly made him look even more adorable. Chansung hadn’t realised he bore his emotions so freely before.

“I won’t show you if you’re over there and pouting.”

Wooyoung rose up defiantly and faced him.

Chansung couldn’t help himself, he erupted into laughter again. “Ah, you’re too cute sometimes!” Wooyoung snagged his cheek between his fingers. “Ah! –ooyun-!” He managed.

                “Don’t call me cute.”

Chansung rubbed his cheek but smiled. “We’re running away too early and haven’t eaten anything. Everybody left yesterday and we already have new visitors...”

“Yeah, and you’re not completely better yet.” Wooyoung said and crouched down in front of him. “But I’ve been patient, haven’t I?”

“How much do you want to see? I don’t really want to change back and be right now, it’s too cold.”

Wooyoung chuckled and rested his head in his hands. “I guess I can wait until we get home for the rest...”

“Wouldn’t it be better to see all instead of just pieces?”

                “I don’t wanna go home...”

                “But...we’re both hungry.”

Wooyoung groaned and hid his face in his arms. “I don’t really want to see him.” He huddled until he was settled between his legs. Chansung worried his bottom lip. “Nichkhun has been friends with Min-Jun and Taecyeon for a long time. He’s like a weird, erted uncle. I hope he doesn’t stay at the house...” Wooyoung shivered and rubbed his arms. “Are we still not drinking for a while?”

Chansung sighed. “It’s too early in the morning to talk about booze – and what if he takes advantage of me or something?”

“It’s never too early when Nichkhun Horvejkul is around.” Wooyoung grumbled. “I promise Nichkhun won’t touch you.”

“You’re honestly an alcoholic.” Chansung pushed him, but Wooyoung sat back and curled his arms around his legs. "First Taecyeon, now this guy..."

                “You’re an enabler.”

“What?” He gasped. “No I’m not!” Warmth was seeping up his legs. “I also don’t want to go back because I felt on edge for some reason, and I’m sure it wasn’t Nichkhun.”

Wooyoung turned around and pressed on his thighs as he got up. “I don’t like hearing that, especially after the fights you were in.” His gaze focused intensely on him.

                “What?”

“No wonder Taecyeon was so on edge around you sometimes. Your mother has silver eyes, but I guess you got your father’s?”

Chansung made to reach up but Wooyoung cupped his face and came closer. He really was on alert if he hadn't noticed his eyes change. And then, he was confused. "How did you know my mother has silver eyes? I thought you were gone the whole time she was here."

"I was." Wooyoung said simply, his thumbs brushing over Chansung's cheeks. "So, your dad?"

                “Yes...”

                “Can I see your ears?”

                “We should go back then...”

Wooyoung pouted, “but I wanna see...” he whined. “Why would you feel on edge anyway? Don’t make me nervous...”

Chansung sighed and shook his head, “it’s nothing.”

“No, come on, you have to tell me.” Wooyoung continued to whine as he pulled at his cheeks. This was driving him insane.

“Whoever it was made me territorial, okay?” He admitted, and blushed.

                “Ooh...”

Chansung ‘tsked’ at how drawn out Wooyoung’s response was and rose up as he pulled away. “What?”

                “You’re becoming attached...”

                Flushing, he looked away. “So..?”

“So?” Wooyoung’s tone caught his attention. “This could mean many things, Hwang Chansung.”

“Yeah well, I’m not ready to interpret those things yet, especially after sitting in the cold on an empty stomach.” He rose to his feet and made to walk, but those warm fingers laced with his own. Turning back, he found Wooyoung staring at their joined hands. “What’s wrong?”

“I...” He started. “I haven’t been able to thank you yet for bringing Junho and Min-Jun home.” He said and began to shake a little. “I...I couldn’t...I don’t know what I would have done if I’d lost any of you. I was...” For the first time since Chansung had been here, tears filled Wooyoung’s eyes. “I was really scared. When I saw you in the hospital – no, even before that, when I got your phone calls – just everything about the past week and a half, was so stressful. Do you know how scary your mother is?”

So Wooyoung had met her then.

Chansung chuckled a little, but it was a bit on the bitter side. “She’s just like that, in and out, all purpose. She's....” He trailed off and shut his mouth tightly.

“Anyway...I just...I can’t help but think what would have happened if you hadn’t made it back.”

This time, he was the one holding Wooyoung’s face. “I made a promise. I’m sorry we got hurt, but...looking back, I don’t know how I did it, or Min-Jun.” Wooyoung looked up, eyes a very bright, translucent silver. “Not hiding it?”

                “I trust you.”

Chansung pulled him closer. “You...” He trailed off and the silence of the den area encompassed them. He wanted to lean forward and take those lips with his own again. He wanted to touch and comfort him.

"You smell really good..." Wooyoung murmured, pulling him closer.

                "Yah-"

Wooyoung brought him even closer, and Chansung's heart raced in his chest. They were so close.

“Anyway, you’re right, we should head back.” Wooyoung tried to step backwards but Chansung followed.

“Are you going to keep hiding your scent from me too?” The question he never intended to ask flew from his lips.

Wooyoung’s face went extremely red, “I...can stop if you want.”

“It’s up to you...I would rather you feel safe.”

                “You're such an alpha..."

Chansung made to retract but Wooyoung kept his hands pressed to his cheeks. They were so hot, and no wonder, they were wonderfully red.

"When Nichkhun leaves, I’ll stop.” Wooyoung said breathlessly.

“Now I have even more reason to want him to be gone.” Chansung hummed.

Wooyoung laughed and then tugged him along.

They made their way down to Times Past Road and their fingers remained linked for a while, but then their hands fell apart as they neared the bakery. Chansung was beginning to feel on edge again. A low growl rose in his throat when he caught the same scent from before and Wooyoung stopped beside him. He didn’t know why he was so angry.

                “What’s wrong, Chansung?”

They appeared, whoever they are, a tall man with light brown hair.

Chansung couldn’t stop it even if he tried. His leopard did not like this person and he transformed instantly.

“Oh? Seems like I’m not the only feline in your life anymore, Wooyoung.” The man said and unleashed his scent even more.

“Chansung, please calm down.” Wooyoung tried to soothe him.

“Retract your scent.” Chansung growled and clawed at the ground.

The man smiled mysteriously. “No.” He challenged and shook his head. Green eyes peered into his. He crouched low to the ground and his body rippled: a tiger.

Chansung didn’t know if he would be able to fight him in his condition, and he didn’t know how strong his feelings were, but he didn’t want anyone to take Wooyoung from him. Of that, he was most certain.

“Wait! Stop! The both of you!” Wooyoung tried to stop them but the tiger leapt forward.

Chapter 50: After so many years, you congratulate me for staying and waiting but you mesmerized me more. You kept your promise to return and rewrite the story. Making it better you said, it was soo good back then and this is even so much better. This story is packed with emotion. Truthfully, this is one of the best story I have ever laid upon. Youre such an amazing writer probably because youre such an amazing person. Stories like this should be published instead of some those in the market.

Thank you for writing this masterpiece. Sad that this is your last but what a grand retirement. I always wondered why I kept holding on this account. I guess this is it that Ive been waiting for. The end to such a beautiful story. Well another bonus you said. But yeah. I read because i love chanwoo but this story is so enticing and so so good. Im not good with words and I am jealous how good you are with it. You and your ways with words. Not sure if youll read this. Knowing you was one of the best Ive ever had. This site has given me so much that I couldnt fathom or know it over the years. You are one of it. I wish you happiness and everything you wanted. So long my penpal(?).

Thank you so much for this.
