Before

Kidnap Me Hyung

"Here you go sir, have a nice day." Onew took the bag of food and thanked the worker before heading over to one of the tables.

Onew dug into his sweet-and-sour chicken, starving after hours of work. It wasn't the best food he'd ever had, but it was cheap and it was filling, and that was all Onew cared about.

Having finished the last of his food, Onew cracked open his fortune, wondering what was supposedly in store for him today.

The one you love is closer than you think.

Onew stared at the words; annoyance bubbling up inside him, and he scoffed.  Was this some kind of sick joke, that he would get a fortune about love? It had to be. Onew didn't love, he couldn't, not anymore. The idea of him even beginning to fall for someone was completely preposterous.

Onew shoved the fortune into his pocket angrily, and quickly disposed of his trash. Walking down the street, he pulled the fortune out again, glaring at the seemingly harmless words.

He would never admit it, but Onew was actually quite superstitious, and the fact that more often than not his fortunes came true only strengthened his belief in fate. This however, this fortune, had to be a mistake.

Onew traded the fortune for his phone, the fortune once again falling into the depths of his pocket. A quick glance at his phone told him that he had approximately 50 seconds to catch the bus home, or wait 20 more minutes for the next one.

Time to start running.

----------------

The sun was warm against Taemin's face as he stood at the bus stop, patiently awaiting for his bus to arrive. His fingers drummed against his legs to a familiar rhythm while he quietly hummed along. His gym bag was slung over his shoulder, the only evidence of his recent activities.

Staring absentmindedly  at the cars passing by, Taemin wondered what kind of lives the drivers led. How many were students, like him? How many were ahjummas, driving to school to pick up their children? Were some business men, on their way home from a successful day at work?

Were some like him, taking life day by day, pretending to be like everyone else while secretly trying to fulfill their dream? He could only imagine how many had secret goals unmet,  wishes gone unanswered, who dreamed for a better life than the one they had.

Lost in thought, Taemin almost didn't notice the bus pull in front of him.

"Hey, you going to get on or what?" the driver yelled down, mildly annoyed. Taemin jumped at the sudden interruption. Rushing up the steps, he flashed his bus card and headed down the aisle in search of a seat on the crowded bus. Every seat seemed to be taken however, and eyes stared up at him, as if daring him to ask for a seat.

The bus jerked forward, sending Taemin flying to the ground. Taemin  closed his eyes, bracing for the impact that never came. Instead, he felt himself spin around and become crushed against something soft. Opening his eyes slowly, he realized a man no more than a couple years older than himself had caught on to his bag and managed to pull Taemin against himself. He was now in said man's arms, while he stared down at Taemin with a strange withdrawnness.

"Thank you." Taemin said quickly, pulling back and grabbing onto the bar closest to him.

The man merely nodded and looked away. Hit with the sudden desire, no need, to hear what the man's voice sounded like, he blurted, "I'm Lee Taemin. What's your name?"

"Lee Onew." He responded stiffly, yet his voice still sounded like velvet, soft and smooth. It had to be the most beautiful voice Taemin had ever heard.

"Lee Onew." Taemin said, testing it out, looking Onew up and down curiously. "Your name fits well Onew-sshi." Taemin smiled brightly, causing Onew to stiffen and look away. Taemin knew he should take that as a sign that his attention was unwanted, but he couldn't stop himself.

"Onew-sshi, how old are you? I'm 19."

"23." He replied, barely audible.

"I figured you were older than me, even though you don't really look it. You're much too soft looking."

Onew gave him a strange look, and Taemin  backtracked.

"I mean to say, your features are very soft. No, wait... I don't know what I mean." The corner of Onew's mouth twitched into a smile.

"It's nice out today, isn't it?" Taemin said, changing the subject altogether. "Days like this are so few, you really have to appreciate them. My brother always makes fun of me, says I think too much about it. It is just weather after all, right? I don't know. It seems like more than that to me. Sometimes I imagine I could fly up there and leave the world behind, start off brand new. Do you know what I mean? "

The smile that had begun to form on Onew's face is gone, replaced by the look one might have if they'd seen a ghost.

"You remind me of someone..." He whispered, face pale.

"Onew-sshi, are you okay?"

Onew is about to reply when the bus jerks to a halt. A crowd of people push by the two, eager to get off the suffocating bus. After a moment, Onew looks to the door.

"Uh sorry, this is my stop." Onew rushes off, leaving behind a confused Taemin. The bus begins to move again, and Taemin looks back in time to see Onew leaning against the bus stop wall, hand over his heart.

Even more lost than before, Taemin drops into one of the now unoccupied seats and rests his head in his hands.

----------------

At the bus stop, Onew was having an internal panic attack, and it was all he could do to hide his sudden loss of sanity. His lunch break crossed his mind again, and eyes widening, Onew pulled the now crumpled fortune from earlier and read it again.

The one you love is closer than you think.

Onew's heart beat a bit faster as he stared at the small words. It couldn't be possible, it was just a stupid fortune from a cookie he got at a cheap Chinese place. Besides, his love was never going to return. Yet the look at that boy's eyes had been so startlingly familiar...

No. It couldn't be. It was best to just move on before he got himself hurt. At least, that's what Onew told himself as he once again shoved the fortune into his pocket and began walking back to his house.
