"Mum.." you said quietly

"Yes, Sweetie?" Mum replied

"I wanna go overseas" you looked at your mum's face

"Sure sweetie.. Where do you wannna go for holiday?" Mum asked

"No. I am not going for a holiday. I am going and I don't intend on coming back ."

"Why?" Mum asked in a shocked voice

"I don't want to be in this household anymore. I want to be independent."

"You are here so that your dad and I can protect you."

"That's what I don't want. Being in your protection. I am a grown up, I want to learn to be independent. I don't want to depend on you guys my whole entire life"

"Sweetie, Your dad and I tried our best to protect you and give you the best we can"

"I know, but that's not what i want at all. This isn't the life i imagine to have. I want my freedom, my own lifestyle , not living in other people's protection."

"Okay. Why not, your dad and I give you your freedom. But you still stay in California." Mum said, trying to make it as reasonable as it can sound.

"NO! Mum. I don't want to be here anymore.  Can't I just go?"

"What are you talking about! I will never let you go anywhere without us!" Dad walked in .

"But dad..."

"not another word from you!" he said

' But why, dad? I really want to be independent.' You plead.

'baby girl. You are our only daughter. I don't want to risk you going somewhere that I don't know' Your  dad reasoned

'But it does not mean that I leave here, I wouldn't be in contact with you guys. You guys don't even know where I want to go.'

' If we let you go, where do you want to go?' mum ask

'Korea. Our hometown.'

Your parents look at you wide eye.

' Korea? Why do you want to go back there?' mum ask bewildered.

'I know you guys don't want to go back anymore. So thats why I asked for me to go overseas and stay.'

' I don't think its a good idea'

'Dad. you don't want to go back doesnt mean you should bar me from going back there. I miss my friends and halmoni (grandma).' you whinned towards your dad

'Fine. But only on 1 condition.' Your dad gave up and said

'what?'

' You are to email us every single day be it day or night. Or give us a call. So we know you are safe'

'OKAY!' you excited agree.

'So when do you want to leave? I can book a ticket for you.'

' 1 month time? So i can prepare and make the necessary arrangements.'

' I will get you your PR for korea citizen.'

'Thanks dad.'

So you went back to your room, lying on your bed ."Korea here I come."
