Haesica oneshot: Looking for his heart

The 17 years old guy was lying on his bed in the hospital. He looked so pale and lifeless and she couldn’t help but cry. Seeing him like that broke her heart. Although she knew he was going to leave her soon, she didn’t want to admit it. She loved him so much and she didn’t want to lose him.

He looked at her and smiled sweetly. How could he smile when he was about to die? He wiped her tears and kissed her hand softly.

“Don’t cry Sica” he said

“I don’t want you to leave me! It’s too soon!” she said trying to hold back her tears. Her beloved boyfriend Aiden had a brain tumor and had only a few more months left but that was not the reason why he was on the hospital. He knew he was going to die soon so he decided to donate his heart to someone he didn’t even know.

Jessica didn’t understand why he was doing that. She didn’t want him to leave her so soon. Deep inside her heart she knew she would never forgive that person that was taking her Aiden away from her.

“Don’t be sad” he said smiling to her “I’m going to die anyway. This person deserves to live more.  The only thing that hurts me it’s to leave you”

She couldn’t help but cry even more after hearing him say that. She hugged him tightly and he caressed her hair.

“Promise me that you’ll look for this person and make sure he takes care of my heart” he said and smiled again. “Because you are always going to be there…”

Present

It was a normal and warm spring day and Jessica was around the park, thinking about her boyfriend Aiden. She was crying as she remembered him. She didn’t care if the people around her thought that she was crazy.

Jessica had promised him that she was going to look for this person and she was going to do it but she hated him. She didn’t even know him but he hated him because he was the reason why her beloved Aiden died so soon. He knew nothing about him but she was going to find out.

She was so distracted that she didn’t notice a ball that was coming straight to her face. When she realized it was coming, it was already too late. One moment she was standing there and the other, she was lying on the ground unconscious.

“Miss, are you ok?” someone asked worried. He touched her face and slightly slapped her to make her wake up.

She slowly opened her eyes and everything was blurry. She rubbed her eyes to clear her view and gasped surprised when she saw the guy in front of her. Her heart stopped beating for a while.

“A-Aiden?” she asked nervously. The guy in front of her looked exactly like her deceased boyfriend. He had his short black hair, his hazel eyes, his sweet but manly smile and his fishy looks. She couldn’t believe her eyes.

“I’m sorry miss but I’m not that Aiden” he said scratching his head confused. He helped her to stand up and felt nervous as she was staring deeply into his eyes.

His words brought her back to reality. She knew it couldn’t be because her boyfriend was death. She looked down and tried not cry.

“Sorry I thought you were someone I knew” she said sad

“I should be the one to apologize” he said “I’m a babo, sorry for hitting you with the ball. Are you sure you are ok, miss?”

He asked really concerned and she nodded without looking at him. She knew that if she did, she would remember Aiden and that would be really painful.

“I’m ok, don’t worry” she said and finally looked up. He was smiling at her and she blushed.

“Can I know your name, miss?” he asked politelty

“My name is Jung Jessica” she answered and he smiled

“My name is Lee Donghae” he said and shook her hand. She felt something weird when her hand touched his.

“I’m sorry but I have to leave” she said because she couldn’t stand seeing him anymore. He reminded her so much of him. She turned around and was about to leave when he suddenly grabbed her arm. She was shocked and turned her head back to face him.

“Can I walk you home?” he asked sweetly and she didn’t know why but she agreed.  As they were walking they were both silent. It was really awkward and they didn’t know what to say to each other. When they finally arrived, he decided to break the silence.

“Can I visit you again?” he asked suddenly

“We don’t even know each other” she said coldly and he chuckled

“I just want to get to know you more” he said smiling. Everything about him reminded her of Aiden and maybe that was what made her agree.

As day passed by, Donghae always visited Jessica and they soon became good friends. At first, she hanged out with him because he reminded her of Aiden but as time passed by, she started seeing him in a different way. She discovered that Donghae was really different to Aiden in many ways.  Donghae slowly made her get over her painful memories and she could smile sincerely again.

She was starting to like him but she didn’t want to admit it. At first she was afraid that she might have fallen in love with a shadow of her past but now she was sure that it wasn’t like that. She liked Donghae for what he was and not because he reminded her of Aiden.

Donghae was deeply in love with her but he knew that there was something in her past that made it impossible for her to be completely happy.  He was decided to find out and heal her heart.

One day, they were in the park sitting under a tree and he noticed that she was zoning out as she sometimes did.

“Are you ok, Sica?” he asked her

“Sorry” she said smiling at him “I was just… thinking”

“About what?” he asked her “If I can know”

She sighed. They had been friend for more than one year and she hasn’t told him anything about Aiden yet. She trusted him and the only way to remove the painful memories was telling him everything. Besides, he had helped her move on.

“I think I have to tell you” she said and he remained quiet to listen. “I had boyfriend who I loved very much and we were really happy but… he had brain tumor.”

Jessica was trying to hold back her tears and Donghae was really shock to hear her story.

“We both knew he was going to die but I didn’t want to admit it. One day, he found out about a guy that had a heart disease and he decided to donate his heart to him because he was going to die anyway”

After saying this, she couldn’t hold her tears anymore and started crying. Donghae was speechless and didn’t know what to say.

“He made me promise that I was going to look for this guy and make sure that he was taking care of his heart” she continued

“Have you already found him?” Donghae asked nervously and she shook her head

“I don’t even know his name” she answered

 “I do…” he said suddenly and her eyes widened.

“DO YOU KNOW HIM?!” she asked shocked

“Yes” he replied

“Who is him? Tell me!” she said

“It’s…” he paused and took a deep breath before continuing “me”

“WHAT?!” she asked still shocked “H-how can it be you?”

“After listening to your story, I realized it was me” he said looking down. He felt hurt and responsible for Jessica’s pain.  “I was diagnosed a heart disease 6 years ago and I thought I was going to die because they didn’t have a heart to make the transplant.  When I thought all my hopes were gone, I heard about this guy who had a brain tumor and that he was willing to give me his heart. I was shocked but happy and thanks to him I’m alive”

Jessica was shocked and her eyes were full of tears. She couldn’t believe that the guy she was falling in love with was the responsible for Aiden’s death. Donghae felt really bad and guilty.

“I- can’t believe it’s you” she said still shocked

“Sica, I’m sorry” he said with tears in his eyes. He touched her arm but she shoved it off.

“Don’t touch me” she said staring coldly at him “I hate you! You are the reason why Aiden left me before time!”

Jessica ran away with tears on her eyes. Donghae called for her but she didn’t look back. She had mixed feelings. Ever since she found out about Aiden’s plan to donate his heart to this guy, she hated him without even knowing him. Now that she knew it was Donghae, she was confused.

After all that year they spent together, she started to develop sincere feelings towards him but now she felt that she needed to hate him. It started raining but she didn’t care. She ran until her legs couldn’t take it anymore and then stopped. She looked up with tears in her eyes as she felt the raindrops in her face.

“Why Aiden?” she asked to sky “Why do I had to fall in love with him?”

“Sica!” she heard him yelling her name. He was running towards her completely soaked and when he finally reached her side, he hugged her from behind.

“Please leave me” she said crying

“No” he said “I love you. I know that I’m the reason why Aiden left and I’m really sorry. If I could take back the time, I would have died instead of making you suffer so much”

Jessica cried hardly. She loved him too but she was confused. His words made her understand that she didn’t want to lose him. If he had died, she wouldn’t have met him. She knew it wasn’t Donghae’s fault.

She turned around and hugged him tightly and that shocked him.

“I’m sorry Donghae, I shouldn’t have blamed you” she said crying on his chest “After all, it was Aiden’s decision and if that made him happy it should make me happy too.”

“I’m really sorry if you suffered because of me” he said and cupped her head in his hands. He slowly leaned forward and kissed her gently under the rain. It was their first kiss but it was really magical. When they broke apart, he hugged her and he rested her head on his chest.

“After all everything happened for a reason” she said smiling “God took him away from me but then he put you on my way.”

“I think Aiden gave me his heart so that you could be together even after his death” Donghae said and smiled “And I promise I will take care of his heart and of you because I love you”

“I love you too” she said they kissed again. Aiden would always be in her heart but she loved Donghae for who he was.
