CHAPTER 36

 

 

 

Last Night.

She has been repeatedly calling his phone ever since this afternoon and it rang for a good three tries then the phone just got turned off. It made her stomach turn.

Where could he be? She thought relentlessly unable to fall asleep. She has checked his condo but he wasn't home, she asked her other bosses but they didn't know either and with every ticking of the clock, as the day had dragged on, her worry couldn't be contained.

She skipped dinner and just kept trying to call his phone though she knew that she would get the same answer every time she tried but even so she continued sending her messages. At around eleven in the evening, she decided to call him once more but when she received the same answer she had quickly ran to the door, pulled on her shoes and ran out of her apartment deciding to check him if he was back at his condo.

“Come on... come on...” she impatiently stared at the descending numbers and when the doors opened, she almost ran out. It was raining yet again outside and she silently cursed to herself for not bringing an umbrella. “Mr. Song!” she ran to the guard who smiled at her “Ah, Ms. Kim, what are you doing here at such a late hour?” he asks.

Hana brightly smiles “Ah, I have to go somewhere important, do you mind if I borrow your umbrella?” the old man blinks at her words but nevertheless lends her an umbrella, Hana grins and thanks him with a bow before going out of the building. She opens the umbrella and steps into the rain, she looked around her hoping for a taxi to drive by but instead she found a car parked on the side of the road not far from the building.

A familiar one too.

Her feet walk towards the vehicle and as she gets closer, she notices a figure sitting on the sidewalk under the streetlamp getting soaked in the rain.

Her eyes widen “Kris...”

She ran towards the figure calling out his name but he doesn't even budge, it was only when he felt the drops of water go away that he looked up. He had a lost look on his face, Hana bit her lower lip, feeling them quiver and her eyes water.

They both didn't say anything but the next thing she knew, she dropped the umbrella onto the ground and fell on her knees as she wrapped her arms around him.

“Where have you been?” her tears got mixed with the rain “I've been trying to call you all day”

Kris didn't move, he just sat there.

“Sorry Hana...”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The lights of the conference room went on and the blinds on the window rolled up automatically after Kris's presentation was finished. The chairman only gave a nod and turned to the others “Please leave Kris and I” he said.

The others got up from their seats and left the premises. As soon as the doors closed, the chairman got up from his seat, walked to the long windows, hands behind his back as he looked over the view of the city. Kris remained standing in front, his eyes following his father's movements.

“I heard...” the raspy old voice filled his ears “You hired someone new to be the Head of Finance”

Kris remains quiet. His father turns and looks at him, a sigh escaping the old man's lips “How long has she been working here?”

“A couple of months now” he answers in a blunt tone.

“From what Sonya tells me --” Kris frowned at the mention of the name “What the hell did you send here for? To tell me that I have a responsibility in my hands?”

His father's face turns much more serious “Ofcourse you have a responsibility” Kris's hands balled up into fists, his jaws clenched. His father continued to speak “You've had it in your hands for years now; I sent Sonya here to assist you with the financing of the company”

“Oh cut the bull, as if that's the only reason why you sent her here, I'm onto your tricks old man, why don't you just ing admit it?”

Chairman Wu kept his calm “Watch your words, young man, I'm still your father”

“Since when were you a father to me?!” He yelled and silence fell. Chairman Wu looked taken a back by his son's words and the hurt showed in his eyes but Kris didn't care. His heart was once again cold.

“Kris...” his father calls and he stays quiet. “We'll talk about this later; Right now, be a professional” He says then walks past Kris.

The younger Wu stood alone inside the conference room, from the corner of his eye he picks up the glass full of water before throwing it onto the wall, shattering it to pieces.

His mind gets engulfed by the memories of last night

“Sorry Hana...”

she doesn't pull away from the embrace

“But I don't want to hurt you; maybe it was wrong for you to have said yes to me” Hana's embrace tightened “No, don't say that... please; look” she pulls away and places her hands just a little above his neck, cupping them

“If you won't want me when tomorrow comes, I'll back off, okay? Not tonight... not tonight, okay?” she sniffled a bit.

Pathetic. It was one word to describe him. How she say those? How could she have made it much harder and how could I have not just let her go?

Hana.

“Eonnie, is something wrong?” I was brought back to earth by Stephanie. I looked at her with a sheepish smile “I'm fine” I tell her. My heart feels like jumping out of my chest.

I was at her house today after having heard that she had gone down with a flu; I informed Sehun that I won't be able to come in to work and he said it was fine so I didn't bother telling Kris because I knew that he wouldn't be reading his phone. He's been sulky ever since yesterday evening and I had trouble sleeping last night.

He was so close to ending it just as fast as it had begun and I wanted to tell him so badly. But I couldn't because I couldn't bring myself to do so. “Your dad's arriving today” I tell her and she gives me a smile “I know.... but why aren't you there?”

I hand her a glass of water and her medicine; she was bed-ridden. “I called in, don't worry besides, I arranged the books yesterday so they won't be needing me” I explain. She hands me back the empty glass and I puff out a sigh. “Say, eonnie, I heard from Chanyeol that you and Yi Fan are together now” I could only smile.

“Get some sleep” she gives me a pout but sighs and does as she was told.

I took the tray to the kitchen and start to clean up the dishes. I wonder how things are going at the office? Sigh. Would have been nice to see the Chairman... but maybe I'd make a run for it. He's Kris's dad after all.

Yesterday evening was not called for and I had no idea about what Kris was talking about but I'm sure it hurt. I was sure that for some time in my life, I had pictured myself in a scene where a guy lets me go and I let go aswell but last night, it was not in the scripts at all. I did the opposite.

I held on. The question is for how long?

 

 

 

The whole day went on and Chairman Wu had inspected each and every single thing, every file possible, everything. Sonya had joined them somewhere in the day but Kris never spared her a glance while she had taken full notice of the devastated look on his face.

Hana was nowhere to be seen on the other hand but Chairman Wu didn't make requests of her presence so no one had to be troubled. Kris didn't even bother to look for him seeing as he was too drowned in his own thoughts.

“Good, good... impressive” Chairman Wu nods his head before closing the hardbound. “Good job Sonya-ssi” the old man gives her a smile and she gives a curt nod. They were all in the board room, sitting around the large table with the Chairman sitting on one end and the CEO on the other. “It seems like you're ready to take over”

Kris was slammed back to the reality of the moment and his brows scrunch together “What do you mean by that?”

Sonya falls quiet as Chairman Wu explains “Ms. Yang will be taking over the position of Head of Finance”

The boys exchanged looks and Kris was baffled by the announcement. He shoots up from his seat “You can't do that!” and the whole boardroom falls quiet as Kris raises his voice. Fists slam on the table and the Chairman stands up aswell “I've had just about enough of you Kris, do you think you're far more superior than I?!”

A low growl escaped Kris's lips “If you put this woman” he points as Sonya who looks at him in an offended manner “as the Head of Finance then fine but I'm going to quit”

“Kris, calm down...” Tao tells him but he swats away Tao's hand “You stay out of this Tao” he tells him before turning back to his father “Kris, would you listen to your father fir --” Sonya tries to speak but Kris's rage was getting the best of him, he couldn't bite back the words “You're another pest in my life, come all the way here after years to show me that I have something to be responsible about? How low can you go? Are you that desperate? Trying to tie me down with a kid?”

Sonya looks at him in disbelief and half the room looks at them with confusion including the Chairman. Finally having had enough of his arrogance, Sonya stands up from her chair

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

BANG.

“Mommy!” the doors burst open and inside comes a little child, running to Sonya. A gasp escapes her lips, the child looks around her eyes lit up when she saw the Chairman “Grandpa!” she runs to the old man as an array of co-owners of the company are in shock excluding two of them: Sehun and Tao.

Fang Yin embraces her grandfather's legs before she spots someone else int eh room and runs toward him “Daddy!” She embraces Kris's legs and the young Wu freezes in his place. Out of the blues, the door opens once again and a sigh escapes the person's lips

“Fang Yin” the voice calls and everyone turns, the child releases Kris's legs and her eyes brighten, battering ever so innocently “Didn't I tell you not to run?”

The child pouts “Sorry Daddy” suddenly she looks to and fro and laughs before running towards the person by the door, her weight lifted off the ground “Hey Daddy, he looks like you!” she giggles pointing at Kris.

The man chuckles “Does he?” he looks at Kris and casts the chairman an apologetic look “Sorry for the disturbance uncle; long time, no see, Kris” he smiles at him.

And the young Wu's face of surprise was simply... priceless.

Did I surprise you chingus? Kekeke, I hope I did but if I have failed then I'm sorry :( Aigo, I really hope I didn't fail on this chapter. You guys have been asking me this question since Chapter 32 and now I am finally going to put a rest to your hearts... for now, a lot will be coming more soon, this is just phase one kekeke ;)

I had fun with the guessing game but now that it has come to an end, there's something you should anticipate next.

Sadly tho, I can't update tomorrow because I won't be home; it's Masskara here in Bacolod City of Smiles and I want to unwind for a bit, but the good news is... I'm going on an update spree on Sunday! I want to give you four chapters on Sunday ~ I will do my best! FIGHTING!

P.S. I may lose subbies after this but... I think I rregret nothing. or do I?
