"Omma...I don't want to go to school today." Dingxiang complained early in the morning.

 

"It's only slight fever. You will manage. Omma gave you medicine na...now go. If you take more time, you will get

late."

 

Dingxiang was running slight fever from the past 3 days. In the beginning he did not complain much, but today

somhow he did not want to go to school.

 

Ronica dressed him up and Kris took him in his lap. They then went to school.

 

Ronica was concerned about his son's condition now. He had fever before too, but they never lasted more than a

day. and they were generally mild.

 

The doctor had told her to go out for jogging or walking once in a while. Since she was up early today, she decided

to go out. The jogging helped to calm her anxieties down a little. She felt better.

 

In the evening...

 

Kris was back from office, bringing the kids with him. Meifin was holding Kris' hands but Dingxiang was fast asleep

in Kris' arms. Ronica took him in his arms and went to the kids room. She pressed his forehead. His temperature

had risen since morning. But he needed to be freshened.

 

Lightly waking him up, she helped him change and then a mild hot-water bath. When Ronica asked how he felt now,

he said he was better. But he looked even more pale.

 

They sat down for dinner. Dingxiang made a fuss once again, crying that he didn't feel like eating. But then he ran to

the washroom to puke. Ronica took care of him. Giving him medicine, she put him to sleep. But Kris usually didn't

allow Ronica to be around her sick son for long time.

 

"Ronica, go back to your room. I am taking care of him. You might get infected from whatever it is."

 

"But Kris...he needs me..."

 

"Shh...I am there for him. I will tend to him. You need to take care of her also. You can't take so much stress. It's

not good for you." Kris said, her tummy. "For now, stop worrying. Listen to some light music and go off to

sleep." He kissed his wife on her forehead and took her to their room.

 

When he came back to his son, he was slightly shivering, and said he was not feeling well. Kris his back

lightly, so that he would be comfortable. He was back to sleep again. Kris decided to sleep with Dingxiang that

night. He told Meifin to go and sleep with her mother. She obeyed.

 

It was two in the morning. Ronica's sleep was disturbed due to light pain she had in her back. Meifin was still fast

asleep. She went downstairs to drink water, when she saw the light in Dingxiang's room on. Taking a bottle with her,

she entered the room to find Dingxiang lying on the floor, and Kris on the phone.

 

"What happened to him?" She ran to him.

 

"I don't know. He had got up to go to the washroom, and then fainted. He has got a very high temperature. I just

called the ambulance."

 

Kris then called Chanyeol up. He picked up after a few rings.

 

"Hyung...what happened...?? You calling up this late?"

 

"Can you take care of Meifin ...just for the night? Dingxiang is very sick, and we are going to the hospital."

 

"Ok..send her here. We will take care of her."

 

By the time Kris finished talking on the phone, the ambulance arrived. Ronica got inside with Dingxiang. Kris

followed with Meifin. He left her with Chanyeol and then rushed to the hospital.

 

When Kris reached there, Ronica was holding Dingxiang who continuously crying. Ronica held his hands and tried

to calm him donw. Kris rushed to them.

 

"Dingxiang-ah..you will be fine. Nothing will happen. Bear a little pain, you will be fine. Shh...."

 

Soon the doctor came and checked him up.

 

"He has viral meningitis and needs it needs to be admitted immediately. We need make a lumber puncture to see

whether it has effected the brain or not."

 

Ronica panicked immediately. Kris and Ronica knew that Dingxiang was afraid of needles.

 

"But..sir...he is afraid of injections."

 

"We will use anaesthesia. But it might still be slightly painful because we won't use it in a high dosage. He is still

small."

 

He was taken to a room and laid down. His back was turned towards the other side. Dingxiang was still wailing.

 

"Ronica..you go outside. Don't stay here." Kris told Ronica. She had already started crying.

 

"Ronica...I said you to go out. You are not staying here."

 

"No....I...want..want to stay by him. He is crying so much. He needs me."

 

"He wil be fine Ronica. I am here for him. It's not good for you to stay here. It's not good for our child.

Ronica....leave."

 

"No...!!" She shouted.

 

"Please, Mrs Fan...you should leave. Your son will be taken care of."

 

When she left, Avie was standing outside. She had drove all the way here to visit them.

 

"Ronica..." She came running to her.

 

"Dingxiang....he...he is in soo....soo..much pain."

 

"Calm down Ronica....he is fine. Kris is there with him." But all that she was saying was futile, since soon the painful

scream of Dingxiang came outside.

 

"Se..he is in pain. I want to go..he needs me..."

 

"Shhh...shh...you will go...now calm down. Calm down." Avie patted her back and let her put her head on her

shoulder. Soon, she calmed down and before Kris came out of the room, Ronica had fallen asleep.

 

"Thank you Avie, for coming. I did not know how to handle her in this condition."

 

"It's ok...she has fallen asleep. Now take her to the room and lie her down."

 

Both of them raised her up and put her in Dingxiang's room. Kris also decided to stay back. The doctor would be

back with the reports soon.

 

When Ronica woke up next morning, she saw Dingxiang sleeping peacefully and Kris also fast asleep. When

Ronica was putting the blanket properly for Kris, he woke up.

 

"You are up...come..I will leave you home. You are not going to stay here another second. You have taken enough

stress for the time-being."

 

When Kris was driving, he took Meifin from Chanyeol's home and then went straight to home. Putting Ronica to

sleep, he went and prepared breakfast for his daughter and wife. Taking some fruits for his son, he went back to the

hospital.

 

After an hour or two, the doctor came with the reports. Dingxiang was fine. Thankfully the virus had not spread to

the brain. He needed to be observed for a week and then would be discharged.

 

At home, Ronica had not woken up yet. She was actually very tired and stressed out. Kris not wanting to disturb

his wife, sent her a text.

 

"Dingxiang is fine and will be in the hospital for a week. Nothing to worry about. And you take care of yourself.

Love ya <3 muahh."

Well....I was feeling very bad while writing this chapter...I made my own son sick :P...!! I even shed tears. But then...it's all fiction...isn't...??
