New Priorities
I'm Taking You BackJihyun spent weeks in the ranch to get to know everything. It was quiet and peaceful, simple living at its best and they even lived in their grandparent’s hanok.
Woojin’s most trusted right hand man and a professional, Lee Bumki, taught her how to run the business, the pros and cons of taking over the company, and how to grow a pair of balls in dealing with cutthroat competition.
Despite that, she still finds time in doing hard labor: planting root crops, harvesting wheat, and sometimes sell produce at a local market. She casually talked to the people who work for them, sharing a meal together, helping them as much as she can to lighten their burden.
Jihyun never thought it was Woojin’s subtle way of grooming her to be the CEO.
“Oppa, can I stay here instead?” she moped at dinner.
“No! This is my territory! Yours is Seoul!” he scolded. “Besides, what’s the use of going to school when you’ll just waste it over here? My final answer is no! You’re going back tomorrow!”
“Why don’t we switch places?” she negotiated. “You take Seoul! I take the ranch!”
Bumki chuckled at the two bickering.
“No can do sweetheart! This is first come first serve basis!” Woojin continued eating.
“Aish! I hate you oppa!” she scowled and slouched in her chair. “I knew you won’t let me go with that CEO !”
“Mhmmm!” he grinned. “Are you done eating? Go shower and sleep. We’re leaving early tomorrow!”
“Whatever!” she left.
The adults watch her throw a tantrum while exiting the room.
“Honestly man…” Woojin turned serious. “I’m kinda worried for her. Do you think she’s ready?”
“Yah! Are you questioning Jihyun’s abilities? Tch!” Bumki replied. “She got this bro! And I taught her for God sake!”
“Yeah…” he sighed and craned his neck towards the entrance making sure they were alone. “Any news about Jaejoong? About the president?”
Bumki stopped eating and handed Woojin a folder. “Well… To summarize what’s written in there, it’s not good for all of them…”
Jaejoong’s father was ousted from his position after being framed from graft and corruption. It happened when Jihyun went to the States and from then on, Jaejoong’s family was stripped off from some of their properties which were believed to be acquired through illegal means.
As a result, the president ended up being a normal citizen who works for a law firm while Jaejoong still holds a high position at an advertising company to sustain his mother and sister’s vices. His long list of luxurious cars was taken except for the Audi R8 which he worked for. His secretary also stayed and vowed to remain by his side.
“Aigooo~ How did this even happen? It’s just getting worse!” Woojin clucked his tongue.
“I know man! It says there that the opposition did it. They didn’t like how the president meddled with their under-the-table businesses so they pulled this stunt against him.” he explained.
“Kyaaaa~ That’s just heartless!” he then lowered the file.
“Should we tell Jihyun about this? Oh wait, does she even know about what happened?” Bumki wondered.
“Nope! When I went to visit her in Massachusetts, all she ever did was study and work. She listens to music through her Ipod but I never saw her watch TV or even read the newspaper.”
“Jinjja???”
Woojin nodded and crossed both arms on his chest. “That’s why I don’t mention Jaejoong anymore. She acts like a child sometimes but I know she has matured enough already.”
“Yeah…” Bumki agreed. “She actually smiles a lot now. The other day, she was teaching the neighborhood kids about Math.”
“Math?” the uncle gawked. “She can’t even memorize the multiplication table. Hahahaha!”
“That’s coz she’s teaching them addition. Hahaha!”
