Chasing Happiness

prologue:
'i love you'... when the person you love say this to you, you'd feel happy right?... but, when he says it to me, my heart tends to break even more. What I'm doing... is it right? Why do I feel so horrible when I'm beside him, the smiles, the laughters... were they fake too? I feel like I can't carry on with this anymore... but... I love him too...

The moonlight shines through her bedroom windows, light breathing from her as she lays on her bed, unasleep... unable to sleep. She rolls left, turns right... she stops and finally sits up to look at the time. 11:29... one more minute she kept telling herself. She hears footsteps in the dark hallways, she silently walks up to her door and lets him in. He smiles to her as he tolds his blanket in hand. They're laying on her bed together, both of them looking at the night lights reflection onto the ceiling. He reaches and holds her hand. She turns to look at him and he does the same to her. When the first morning light appears from the window, he takes his blanket and leaves her room, just in time to be awaken by their parents.

"Ge!" She whines to him, "stop stealing my pancakes!"

He just laughs at her, "wah, you can finish all this by yourself? You're going to get fat--"

"Ge!" She exclaims, "you're so annoying!"

There mom is in the kitchen smiling to herself as she over hears their conversation, "ok," she says coming with more pancakes, she sets more on Gui's plate and on his, "is this better?"

She smiles to her mom, "thanks ma!"

Aaron doesn't reply but instead continues to eat.

"Ey Gui, isn't tomorrow your birthday?" Their dad says coming down the stairs.

She smiles and nods, "yep!" She sounds excited, "I don't want a birthday party, just something small would be nice."

"Ok," her mom says, "we'll just throw a little party here at home, what do you say?"

Gui agrees.

They're sitting on the bus next to one another, holding hands under her bag so no one would be able to see.

Xiao Man rushes into the bus with Xiao Yu hand in hand. They sit in front of them as Xiao Man looks behind at Gui, she smiles, "morning!"

Gui just smiles back, "morning."

"Ey, Gui isn't tomorrow your birthday?" She asks, "what do you plan to do?"

"Nothing big," she says then changing the subject, "ey Xiao Yu, did you get the homework yesterday? I'm too confused about it."

He just smiles, "do you need to copy something down?"

"It's ok, I don't want to cheat off of someone."

Xiao Yu turns back to look at her, "what are you worried about? If you don't want to copy it down, I'll just give you a few lessons."

Xiao Man agrees, "Xiao Yu is really good at tutoring. He even made me understand math a little more."

Aaron remains silent, he grips onto her hand, causing her to look at him rashly.

"What do you say Gui? Are you free tonight?" Xiao Yu asks, "I can come over tonight and help you if you want."

She smiles to him, "sure."

With that word, Aaron lets go of her hand.

She looks at him awkwardly, but looks back at Xiao Yu and Xiao Man and faintly smiles.
