The next morning, Jieun found herself loitering in front of the Chairman’s door in hesitation. His secretaries gave her strange looks and frowns from their desks, in which she tried to avoid any kind of eye contact with. At last, she decided that she could probably dwell on the thought a bit more before turning in the finalized report.      But just as she turned her back against the doors, they opened, and the Chinese president called out her name. “Ah, Ms. Lee. What brings you here?”      I guess it’s just meant to be, she told herself. With a polite smile and a bow, she then replied, “I was hoping I could speak to you about some issues I discovered...”      He glanced at his watch. “I can spare a few minutes. Come inside.”        The interior of the office seemed to confirm who its owner was. Just like that of the chairman’s, the atmosphere was strangely balanced by opposite, contrasting factors. It was oriental yet western, antique but modern, quiet and peaceful yet intimidating.      Upon entrance, the elder led Jieun towards a set of sofas situated in the center of the room. He sat on one of them, quickly motioning at her to take the seat across from him. “So what is this you want to tell me about, Ms. Lee? I can only guess that it’s very important since you wanted to speak to me so urgently.”      Despite her earlier hesitation, words flowed out of rather smoothly. “Mr. Chairman, while I was looking through some reports, I came across some serious matter.” Setting down a folder of documents she’d organized on the table, Jieun continued, “If I’m not wrong, sir, you are already aware of the huge deficits in the company budget this quarter, yes?” She didn’t wait for her question to be answered. “According to this report, our partnered EK Corporation is responsible for it.”      With a grim expression, the man began to look carefully through the set of files. “This isn’t new matter. I believe EK is currently trying to make up for the loss until the end of this month. Kim did send his apologies.”      “If you don’t mind my asking, sir, I heard you were long-time friends with Chairman Kim Hanju.”      “You’ve heard correctly. Hm. I suppose it’s been more than a decade since I’ve first met the fellow.”      “Then—Is that friendship the reason as to why you’re overlooking this issue? Please excuse me if I sound rude and over the line, but I don’t think that friendship justifies anything.”      Lu Zhihuan, with a huff, leaned back on his chair and eyed the female. “And what is it exactly that you’re proposing?”      “Within the last couple of years, there have been tremendous losses due to rash investment, as well as several hints of embezzlement in EK. As you’ve mentioned, they have been trying to make up the deficits but ultimately failed in recovering even ten percent of what they were supposed to. I believe these cases are more than enough to terminate the contract legally between EK and Xiao Lu.”      Even so, the chairman remained hesitant. He closed his eyes briefly in thought as he tried to consider his options. But, Jieun wasn’t planning on offering any other choices. She added quickly, “It’s a better decision for the sake of the company, sir. EK is holding Xiao Lu down. It’ll only be an obstacle and a problem for us in the future.”      Zhihuan sighed, but he also nodded his head in approval. “Alright, Ms. Lee. I understood you well enough, and you’re right. Send up a report via proper procedure and I will sign it off.”      Biting back a smile of victory, she lowered her head. “Yes sir. I’m sorry for having held you from your schedules. If you’ll excuse me, I’ll leave you be—” She stood, turning around after a short bow.      “One moment,” the chairman called after her. “I’d like you to answer a question for me.”      “What is it, sir?”      “I looked into you a bit, Ms. Lee. Your past was...quite interesting. Hanju’s son, Jongin—he was responsible for the death of your mother, yes? But he wasn’t accordingly punished.”      His statement made Jieun freeze still in her position; she began to wonder if it was a threat.      “Don’t panic. I have no intentions on stopping you from your little revenge. What you do isn’t any of my business. And that means I won’t speak of this to Han as well.”      She blinked rapidly in confusion, blurting out, “You knew everything. Why haven’t you yet?”      An amused chuckle escaped the elder’s lips. “You’re a talented woman, Ms. Lee. You motivated and caused Han to find his place in the company, where he b elongs. Not to mention the fact that you’re also a high-tier employee that other companies are dying to scout. Your gains happen to be the company’s gains as well. You’ve been more than just helpful, so there are no real reasons for me to stop you.”      “But Lu Han—”      The response was a mere shrug of the shoulders. “He’s fully gro

Chapter 22: Okay, I haven't been reading this even though it appeared in my updated subscriptions simply because I am very lazzzzzzzy lol. Well, I'm not even surprised to read this tragic ending cos I know you ain't kind enough to give a happy one. LOL jk, I mean, it's obvious that this is going to end up angst. But to be honest, I quite frustrated with all the main characters here lol. The story's amazing though. I like the epilogue most, the insight about the types of love. :)
