“Miss Lee Jieun had just suffered from a car accident.”
“Lee Jieun…car accident.”
“…car accident.”
Lu Han’s ride to Seoul University Hospital was like a journey to hell. He couldn’t stop shaking, and cold sweat profusely trickled down his profile. He was so shaken up that he couldn’t handle driving himself; he had to resort to taking a taxi instead.
When the vehicle arrived in front of the huge, white building, Lu Han threw a wad of bills at the driver before sprinting inside. After a quick consultation with the clerk nurse, he rushed his way towards one corner of the emergency area that he had been told Jieun had been taken into.
He felt his heart stop when he finally found her, lying down on the hard hospital bed with a neck brace that covered the lower part of her small face and a thick, heavy cast wrapping her thin right leg. “Oh my god,” he whispered, crashing down on his knees beside her. He reached for her limp, cold hands, grabbing on to it hard.
“Han… Lu Han…”
As the terrors of that day buried within his memories came back to life, Lu Han trembled and clutched his heart with his free hand. Tears flowed down his white face as he relived the trauma from years ago. He remembered it all: his mother’s car turning and slamming into the rails, the honking of the charging truck, the screams, screeches, cries, and most importantly, his mother’s fading breaths.
“Don’t leave me,” he choked out through his sobs. “Don’t go…” He brought Jieun’s hands to his lips, lightly kissing it and closing his eyes for a silent prayer.
“…Lu Han?”
At the sound of her low voice, he jerked his head up. “Lee Jieun!”
A faint smile illuminated her face. “Men shouldn’t cry,” she croaked.
Wiping the salty liquid off his face, he cleared his throat before mumbling, “Real men cry.”
Jieun tried to chuckle but coughed as a sharp pain stung the back of her neck. She yelped out involuntarily, startling and worrying the male beside her.
“Lay still,” he said, his voice cracking in alarm. “I—I’ll get the doctor!”
Using the last drop of energy she had left in her, Jieun feebly grabbed Lu Han by the sleeve. “Don’t leave me,” she said, repeating what she had heard earlier. “Don’t go…”
Tears—and a warm smile—found their way back to the male’s face. “I will,” he whispered, turning around and holding her hands. “I promise.”

It was only after Jieun had fallen asleep that Lu Han managed to find his way out of the hospital. As soon as he did, however, he was greeted by a panting and sweating Sehun. “Oh. Hey,” he said.
“Where’s Jieun?!” Sehun shouted. “Where is she?”
Heaving a sigh, he shook his head. “She just fell asleep. Visit her later.”
Suddenly, Sehun strode up towards the elder male and grabbed him by the collar. “You !” he screamed. “What do you think you are? What are you to mess with Jieun’s life like that? Huh?!”
Lu Han pushed the other off by the chest and dusted his shirt. “What the hell,” he said, irritated. “I’m not in the mood for this crap, so—”
“Shut up,” the other interrupted. “This is entirely your fault. Jieun was hurt because of you!”
His hands dropping to
