CHAPTER 16

“Where’s your step brother?”

A drunk man came in slurring his words, his eyes bloodshot

“Give me that little family wrecker! Give him!”

Jongwoon grabbed little Kyuhyun’s hands

“Kyu go to your room upstairs lock your room and sleep okay?” Kyuhyun nodded and ran upstairs, he locked his room, and like how he always does, he covered his ears with his two hands and crouched in a corner ‘make it stop’ ‘make it stop’ ‘make it stop’ he chanted .

“GIVE ME THAT BASTARD!” He was about to go upstairs when both Jongwoon and their mom held him by his arms

“LET ME GO!” He threw both of them against the walls like they were bags of trash, the impact was so hard that Jongwoon got dizzy, his mom quickly stood up not minding the pain she was used to.

It was like this in the Kim household all the time, their father coming home drunk with their mother always ending up crying and Jongwoon having a bruise decorating his skin.

“STOP IT! yeoba ya!” The guy didn’t stop instead he ran upstairs and banged his fists at the little boys door.

“COME OUT HERE YOU PIECE OF !”  

Kyuhyun gasped at the sudden banging, he shifted his eyes from left to right not knowing what to do.

“OPEN THIS DOOR!” the guy barked

“APPA! Please stop” Kyuhyun wailed

“DON’T YOU DARE CALL ME THAT! I AM NOT YOUR FATHER” and with that Kyuhyun cried harder

Kyuhyun’s mom quickly ran to her secret drawer grabbing a syringe, in fact she had a lot of these; it was for circumstances like this, when his husband gets violent.

She quickly ran upstairs and stabbed the guy at the back with the syringe. She calmed down as the guy slowly drops down the floor. She tried to drag him but she was too weak for this.

“Jongwoon-ah help me here” Jongwoon, who was now conscious, only stared at her mother, his eyes a mix of hate and pity, hate for his father and pity for her mother, why does she even stay with him?

“Jongwoon-ah, what are you doing? Come up here and help me” The boy only gave a deep sigh and walked up stairs, he helped her drag the passed out man towards their parents’ bedroom, when everything was settled the woman turned to Jongwoon.

“Go on, you should rest” she kissed the top of his head and Jongwoon let out a breathy sigh and left.

Kyuhyun’s mother went to the mirror, fixed herself and gave her best smile.  She then walked out of their room to go to little Kyuhyun’s room. She gently knocked on the door and after several second of no answer she sighed and looked down, tears in her eyes

“It’s me Kyuhyunnie~ come out, it’s just me now, it’s just eomma” She said trying her best to keep her voice intact.

After a few seconds, She heard a click and the door opened revealing a tear streaked face 7 year old child.

His mom crouched down and spread her arms and the boy jumped to her embrace.

“Eomma, when will it stop?” Kyuhyun said, his voice so innocent, not even a trace of hatred, and it made his mom gasp for air trying her best not to cry.

She rubbed Kyuhyun’s back soothingly

“Soon Kyuhyun-ah, soon”

And it was soon, because a few days later he heard his mom and dad fighting again, Kyuhyun was hiding behind the bars of their staircase where he was sitting at.

“Don’t you see?! He’s wrecking us, he’s tearing us apart” the man said

“He’s just a little boy” she said almost pleading

“That’s just it! HE’S JUST A LITTLE BOY, Why can’t you just leave him somewhere, never to return again”

Their mom shook her head

“No, I- I just can’t” She tried to walk away but the man grabbed her by her wrist

“Is it because you love your other man more?! Huh?! Is that it?!” the guy said, the lady looked at her husband disbelievingly and pulled her hands to break free from the man’s grasp

“You know it’s not that” The lady said rubbing her wrist

The guy chuckled darkly “of course not”

“I stayed true to you and you know that, I have no idea why you’re always bringing this up”

Suddenly Jongwoon came down the stairs, he had heard everything from his room

“Kyuhyun-ah let’s go biking, I need to flex my muscles, come on” without waiting for his brothers reply he pulled Kyuhyun out of the mess that they call their house, no. it couldn’t be called a home for them, it was just too in messed up

When the two boys left the two were still quarrelling their hearts out.

“If you stayed true to me and if you love me more then why are you protecting his son so much”

The lady’s eyes widened and shook her head at her husband

“He’s your son, why can’t you just believe that?!”

The guy gave a mocking laugh at her wife

“This is useless, I can’t be with that boy! And unless you get rid of him, then you won’t see me anymore” the guy said running upstairs and getting his stuff while the mother was left weeping

Yesung’s POV

I was staring at Kyuhyun as I let out a sigh, just the thought of telling Kyuhyun was ripping me apart.

Why is he here? And why now? Right when Kyuhyun is starting to be happy again.

He let out another sigh and this time catching the attention of the maknae who was sitting at the other end of the couch.

“Hyung? Is something bothering you?” I looked at him dread in my eyes

“Kyuhyun we need to talk” Kyuhyun turned the TV off hearing the seriousness in my voice

“What is it hyung?” he turned to me cross sitting on the couch

This is exactly why I can’t tell him, I mean looking at him, he’s till so weak and he’s still a child, with a heavy heart I looked away

“Kyuhyun, he’s back”

I looked back at him and his face became visibly pale

Kyuhyun’s POV

No he can’t be back, that’s not true

It’s not like I wasn’t expecting this, I expected this since I saw him the other day at school

Expected it since I got a scholarship in his school.

But….Just, why now?

I shook my head and gave a forced smile

“Hyung that’s not true stop joking, it’s not funny” I gave him a disapproving look, he sighed and gave me a look, I hate it, I hate that face.

Pity.

I looked down, the news sinking in me, I gave a bitter smile as I looked back at hyung

“Hyung, he’s going to take you isn’t he? He’s going to take you away from me, so I could be alone and lonely, just like before” he gave me a worried look

“Kyuhyun-ah” he called out but I shook my head

“No hyung, don’t say anything, I’m going to sleep, goodnight” I stood up and headed towards my room.

That night I saw him in my sleep, his face, it’s haunting me, like it did 11 years ago.

His voice it made me feel worthless and unloved.

I woke up in the middle of the night, sweat covering my body.

I sat up and sighed staring at nothing in particular, asking myself for the hundredth time, Why is he back? What does he want?

A blinking light from my cell got my attention, I took it and a small smile appeared on my lips as I saw it was Sungmin

Kyuhyun-ah

It was 3 hours ago, I stared at it for a good minute before I decided to reply back to him, even though I know he’s already asleep

From: Kyu

Sungmin-ah……

God I miss Sungmin, I wish he’s here right now, I need him

I decided to stand up and head to the Kitchen for a drink, since it’s obvious I can’t sleep again, not after that dream.

When I headed back I was surprised to see my cell blinking

From: Min <3

Can’t sleep?

I laid back in my bed and typed a reply

From: Kyu

Sungmin is it possible for you to come here and sleep next to me?

I pressed send and after a couple of seconds I got a reply

From: Min <3

Yah Cho Kyuhyun! Are you crazy?!

I let out a small chuckle as I read his answer, typical Sungmin.

From: Kyu

I like you. Sleep. Don’t reply. I’ll kiss you again if you do

I fell back to sleep without even noticing it.
