Chapter 11: Wild Cards

Yun Jae looked up to see the clock that was just hanging above the chalkboard, and then yawned. It was her last class for the morning. Tick Tock. She was waiting for their English subject to end. She yawned yet again; Bored, she decided to draw on her notebook to let time pass by. She wasn’t going to listen to the boring lesson anymore. She already knows about it.

She was about to finish her drawing when the teacher suddenly called out to her making her startle a bit that made her drawing be ruined.

Stupid teacher, stupid school… She thought to herself as she stood up awkwardly.

“Please read example 1 and 2, in English.” the teacher said smugly. Her classmates winced but Yun Jae just stared at her with a poker face, and then turned to Jae Min.

“What page are we?” she asked to Jae Min calmly, not least bit nervous.

Jae Min yawned, “Page 6” She was playing with her hair with a bored expression.

“Oh, ok” Yun Jae replied while picking up her book.

 Yun Jae is not really worried about English, in fact she finds it easy, and so she takes it easy. Of course she’s not a genius. Sometimes she listens to the lesson, and takes down notes, but she doesn’t really study it at home.

According to her basic understanding, if you listen to your teacher properly, and copy what the teacher writes, you could pretty much answer anything in the exam; and for the fact that she was tutored since she was just a kid and she loves to read books.

“What is this? How do you read this? This is hard.” the boy sitting behind her whispered, surprise was in his tone. “I bet she can’t read it in English” he continued.

Jae Min on the other hand, was listening to him. She carefully leaned back on her chair and faced him. A smirk was plastered on her face again.

“I bet she can.” She said with a grin. “Want to bet?”

Oh boy. Yun Jae just sighed heavily. Jae Min again, with her bets. She just shrugged it off and proceeded to flip the pages.

Chanyeol not taking things twice, agreed to their pity bet.

“Bring it on,” he said with a grin on his face, Baekhyun just face-palmed.

Chanyeol could be an idiot sometimes. We’re just new to this school and he’s already taking part on bets with strangers. He thought. Baekhyun just hoped that Chanyeol would win this bet but then again, Chanyeol could be right or wrong. He can’t tell, they didn’t know who this Yun Jae girl was, but the way the girl named Jae Min acted, it seems that Chanyeol would lose.

“Prepare your money dork.” Jae Min said with an evil chuckle.

Okay, it’s obvious that Chanyeol would loose. Baekhyun sighed heavily.

Then Yun Jae started to read the sentences in full English, without a hint of Korean accent to it. After reading it, she felt sorry for the boy who was sitting behind her.

The new boys and the rest of the class just stared at Yun Jae with wide eyes, and mouth hung open, except for Kris and the teacher, for they know how to speak in English too, but all of them were impressed. Of course, they don’t know that Yun Jae was tutored in English since she was just a kid, only her best friends knows about it.

“Please close your mouths, something may fly in there.” Yun Jae said not taking a glance to the boys and at her classmates. Yes, you could say that I’m a NERD, no need to stare. She frowned, not really comfortable with the stares.

And one by one they did followed. “Good. Very good, Ms. Lee.” The teacher praised and continued the lesson. She won’t have any trouble with Yun Jae in the future, regarding English.

“So I win, give me your money dork.” Jae Min said, grinning, fully satisfied.

“You must be joking.” Chanyeol muttered under his breath while reaching his wallet and gave the money. “No, I’m not. for you,” Jae Min smirked.

Minutes had passed by, and the bell finally rang indicating that it’s Lunch break.  All the students went out of the room, except for the new transferees, Yun Jae and Jae Min.

“Guys, I’m afraid we can’t tour you around school today.” Yun Jae said, while taking glimpse at her new classmate’s faces. She can’t really help herself but to be impressed, handsome guys are rare after all. It’s not everyday, you get to see a handsome face. They’re about to extinct.

“Huh? But why?” the faced guy asked. His thick eyebrows pulled together.

“Because, we have to do something very important, we’ll just tour you guys tomorrow, sorry.” Yun Jae said apologetically, slightly bowing her head.

“So, how are we supposed to find the cafeteria?” the baozi boy asked while rubbing his stomach like a kid would usually do. She could hear his tummy was rumbling hard.

Yun Jae looked at him, Cute~ what was his name again? She wondered while slowly looking away.

“Here’s a map, find your way there. We got to go. Bye.” Jae Min said while handing them a piece of paper that she had drawn earlier.

Jae Min dragged Yun Jae out of the room leaving the boys speechless.

“So were supposed to be here right?” Lay asked as he scratches his head. Confusion was drawn all over his cute face.

“Give me that.” Kai abruptly grabbed the paper.

All EXO members eventually met up. The other party’s, which is Suho’s group tour guides weren’t able to tour them around too saying they have important stuffs to do like what the other party which is Kris’s group, tour guides had said.

Now, they were lost in the school, and they haven’t eaten their lunch yet. They were starting to get attention, and a lot of students were staring at them, especially girls.

“How do you even read this thing?” Kai asked as he flips the so called map over. The boys groaned.

“Give me that, you can’t even understand simple Korean.” Xiumin grabbed the map while Kai scowl of what he heard.

“Wait, what language is this?” Xiumin asked as he tries his best to read the piece of paper. The boys groaned even louder.

“Why is this school have to be so damned huge?! It’s even bigger than our previous school!” Chanyeol loudly complained.

“Someone please, read that freaking map. I’m so hungry!” Chen said while rubbing his tummy.

“Xiumin give me the map” Luhan said. He also tried his best to read the map, but soon gave up.

“I give up, why can’t we understand this thing?” Luhan eventually whined.

Now the other members whined also, they were too hungry to think.

Suho and Kris, being the leaders stayed calm, and thought things through.

“Why don’t we just ask somebody?” Suho and Kris suggested together at their whining members.

The boys just nodded in agreement. Why didn’t we think of that? The rest of the boys wondered. They shrugged.

Being lost, they didn’t know that they were already at the senior’s building. They immediately saw a boy approaching his locker. They carefully went up to him.

The boy slowly opened his locker only to find a card fall to the floor. Then his face suddenly went pale as he picks up the card.

What’s wrong? They all thought as the guy’s face suddenly went white.

Students who were passing by noticed the card that the boy was holding. They gasped at what they saw, and then students started to surround the boy’s locker.

What’s going on? The boys thought as they were being pushed and squeezed in the circle that the just students made.

Students started to whisper each other.

“He has a card, oh no”

“He’s dead”

“Wild Cards”

“What shape did he get?”

“Uh-oh, he got the diamond shape”

Then more gasps were heard.

The boys were now getting curious. They didn’t know what was going on. They don’t get the card thing at all. Why the students would be whispering and all, and what is it with the cards?

“Excuse me, could you please explain what’s going on?” D.O asked the student near him; he just thanked himself that it wasn’t a girl.

“You must be the new transferees” the boy said while taking a glimpse at the new confused faces before him.

No Sherlock. They just all thought together. They wouldn’t ask of what’s happening if they already knew why, right? And they wouldn’t say that ‘cause for one, the guy was their senior in school.

“Well you see that guy over there? You did saw that he got a card? And the card’s shape was diamond-”

“Please get to the point already.”

“Okay, sheesh, hold your horses. Well in this school, there’s a gang called ‘Wild Cards’ and it consist of 4 members, and mind you, they are very dangerous and merciless. They started to appear last year, and they have gotten popular.”

“So what’s up with the cards?” They asked in unison. That’s the one thing, they were so curious about. The scenario was like the drama ‘Boys over Flowers’ they recently watched.

“Well, if you ever receive a card, it came from them, and it holds significance to it. I’m going to explain by rank starting from the bottom. If you ever receive a Clover card, well it means that they decided to put you in their list but they decided not to, so they will not bully you or harm you, but that can change too, if you do something wrong to them.

“If you receive a Heart Card, then it means that you are at their list but you’re safe for the mean time. They will not harm you just yet, do whatever you want but you are still on their list.

“The third one is the Spade card. It means that you’re their next target. It’s a warning signal that they’ll going to beat you up soon.

“And lastly, the Diamond card. It’s the most dangerous card among them. It means that they are going to beat you up now, but not in public of course. They are just waiting for the right timing to attack you.” He explained while taking glances at the boys.

“In this case, he got the diamond card. He’ll be beaten to a pulp later. He must have done something wrong to provoke the Wild Cards that fast, normally they would have sent out the Spade card first.” The senior said, pitying the boy holding the card.

They were wrong, this is not like the ‘Boys over Flowers’ it’s slightly different. “So how do you know that it’s the ‘wild cards’?” They asked curiously, so that they could avoid them in the future.

“Well, no one knows about them. Their identity is unknown; it could be anyone from this school. So I’m telling you in advance before you new juniors do something stupid, be careful of your action. Never, I repeat never provoke anyone in this school, it could be just anyone in this school.” the boy said while leaving the crowd.

That wasn’t the answer they were expecting, they were expecting a hint, but they’re senior don’t have any idea too. They only frowned in disappointment. They watched the boy, who got the card, crouched down crying. He looked scared, well, who wouldn’t.

Minutes passed and the crowd slowly dispersed. The school bell rang and the boys immediately went to their classrooms and they have completely forgotten to eat their lunch with the commotion that just happened. They just sat down their respective seats quietly, and waited for the teacher to come and start their lesson.
