Narration

Blood Affection

¦ narration ¦

White shirt, sleeves rolled up to her elbow, creamy brown tight pants, favorite orange belt, favorite brown flats, not to mention the blue printed scarf. She looked at herself for the tenth time in the mirror. First day at school has always been nerve wrecking. She was not really sure what to wear, but she trusted her instinct whenever it comes to fashion.

People say breakfast is the most important meal, but to Taeyeon, breakfast only made her sleepy. She bid her grandparents goodbye and rushed to her car.

She was actually looking forward to step her feet on her new university. She was lucky enough her aide could get her in to the Music Department in such short notice.

“We’re here, Miss,” her thought was disrupted by her driver.

Taeyeon was told that SM Art University was the most prestigious private college in Seoul, but never occurred to her that the place would be such huge. There were approximately three different buildings and the three of them were in different, yet sophisticated designs.

She walked through the not so crowded hallway with her papers on her hand. It really was a prestigious school; the students looked all so classy with all so fancy clothes lingered on them.

Must say, Taeyeon was a really beautiful girl with her mid cut brown locks falling freely to her shoulder. Even though her height was not really that tall, she was always considered a really cute petite one. With her appearance and her clothes she was wearing, she definitely can be compared to the students there, especially the girls.

She noticed a blonde short haired girl was focused on her smartphone while walking, not minding people on her way. She had been wanting to ask the students around where the administration was but somehow she felt a bit intimidated, or maybe it was because of her low self-confidence. But she felt that the girl in front of her seemed quite nice and she had a rather bright face.

She stopped a few inches away, and as expected, the girl was too occupied with her phone that she didn’t even notice Taeyeon had been blocking her way.

“Excuse me,” Taeyeon blurted, not trying to lose the politeness.

The girl finally jumped out her own world and back to reality. She looked up to Taeyeon and a smile carved on her face.

“Oh, hi!”  the smiley girl almost shouted.

“Hi, umm—“ she tucked her hair behind her ear, “I’m sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if you could show me where the administration is?”

“Oh, sure. I was going to go there anyway,” she smiled before leading the way.

“So, are you new here?” the girl asked, eyes were already back to her smartphone.

“Yes. I just moved back in from Australia.”

“Ah—so you’re a freshman then?”

“Not really. I’m lucky I get to continue my past study in Australia. I’m in my third year now.”

“That makes the two of us then,” she glanced at her smiling, “What are you majoring?”

“Music. But I’m also taking Theatre classes.”

“I guess fate just unites us, I’m majoring in Music too.”

“Oh, wow, what a coincidence,” Taeyeon smiled.

“I’m Sunny by the way,” she offered her hand.

“Nice to meet you, I’m Taeyeon,” she shook her hand.

After a few minutes of chit chat they finally arrived at the administration office. She was given a pile of thick books and the same goes to Sunny. Since the new year just started, lots of students were at the office picking up their new books.

Luckily for Taeyeon, that day she had the same classes with Sunny, well at least for the first two periods, so she wouldn’t become a lost dog in the big university. Sunny was a fun girl to talk to, she knew about a lot of stuffs, she also had a good sense of humor, just enough to put up with Taeyeon’s.

---00---

They were sitting in the cafeteria enjoying their lunch after four hours straight of listening to a quite boring lecture about history of music. Where history was one of the things Taeyeon was not good at. She couldn’t tell how happy she was when bell rang.

Taeyeon noticed there were groups naturally formed inside the cafeteria. Although all the students were all high class and, of course, from a wealthy family, she couldn’t help but to notice a rather prominent group. But since it was only her first day, she decided not to ask anything instead just observe for herself.

“I was curious too you know, at first,” Sunny blurted suddenly.

“About?” Taeyeon asked between her munching.

Sunny didn’t answer her question, instead she just nudged her head to a certain direction. Taeyeon was not surprise that Sunny could actually read her, because she had been staring at the table Sunny was referring to for quite some time.

“Do you know why they stood up among the others?” Sunny almost whispered in front of Taeyeon’s face. She just shook her head in answer.

“That’s because they are from The Great Ten.”

“The Great Ten?”

“Yes,” Sunny turned her head to the table, “See the girl with the straight black hair? That’s Hwang Tiffany, she’s on the same year with us. Her father’s wealth is like ten times then the president himself, nobody really knows what her father does for work though, still a mystery,” she sipped her orange juice.

Taeyeon was a bit blinded by the eye-smile that Tiffany flashed. She seemed like the happiest person on earth.

“Next to her is the ice princess, Jung Jessica, everyone here considered her a biatch. I somehow think that there’s something more behind that cold face. Surprisingly her boyfriend has the exact same personality as her."

“Choi Sooyoung,” she pointed to the girl next to the said Ice Princess.

“Choi is the richest family in Korea. Next is the so called magnae, Seo Joohyun, her friends call her Seohyun though. Everybody knows she has a huge crush on the guy in front of her, Cho Kyuhyun, the eye candy of the year, son of the second richest family in South Korea, after the Chois of course. Poor Joohyun, Kyuhyun only gives her ignorance. Now that...” Sunny referred to a golden brown long haired girl sitting next to the guy called Kyuhyun,

“...is Im Yoona. The prettiest girl on campus, the girl next door. Her locker was always full of love letters.”

Taeyeon had been listening very well, thus she could really sense the mockery tone on Sunny’s voice when talking about Im Yoona.

“Besides Yoona,” Sunny pointed to a brunette guy with a charming feature, “Is her boyfriend, Lee Donghae. Lee Sungmin’s younger brother,” she smiled.

“Who is he?” Taeyeon couldn’t help but to sound clueless, even though she was.

“You don’t know? Oh dear, I forgot this is your first day. Lee Sungmin is one of the most popular guys in this school along with Choi Sooyoung’s brother, well, was, but still is. He graduated last year but girls in this school would never stop gossiping him. But Donghae oppa is no less popular than Sungmin oppa was,” she smiled unintentionally.

Oppa? You were close with them?”

“Well—Sungmin oppa is my ex—“

Just when Taeyeon saw how Sunny dropped her head upon the topic, she realized it was her cue not to talk any further about it.

“Who’s that?”

Sunny lifted her head and noticed a girl with a beautiful long brown hair approaching the table.

“Oh that, is Kwon Yuri. The girl you really don’t want to mess with. If Jung Jessica is the ice princess, she is the medusa.”

“Is it that bad?” Taeyeon couldn’t help but to let out a slight laugh.

“It is, trust me.”

Come to think again, Taeyeon thought Sunny was not overrating. Kwon Yuri somehow looked less cold then Jung Jessica, but there was something deeply malicious inside her. Taeyeon then decided to take her eyes off of the said girl when her eyes met Kwon Yuri’s. Exchanging glares with her sent her chills.

“You said The Great Ten, right? But there are only eight of them?”

Sunny put down her fork and wiped . She stared at Taeyeon’s small eyes seriously.

“The Great Ten is not about them, it’s about their family,” she turned her gaze back to the table of eight, “Choi family is the richest, almost one third of South Korea belongs to them. Seriously, they own them. The Chos are the only family whose wealth is nearing the Choi.”

“What do they do?”

“You mean like a job?” Sunny sipped her juice again while shaking her head, “Nothing. Cho Kyuhyun’s father is just a very successful businessman. Owns almost most of the stocks on Korea’s big companies.”

“What about her?”

Sunny squinted her eyes on the girl Taeyeon referred to, “Rumors said Hwang Tiffany’s father is a mafia,”

Taeyeon chuckled, “Seriously? I thought those are only in movies?”

“Seriously. And you don’t want to know further more about what her father does. A little bird told me once, there was this girl who knew too much about it, and she ended up disappeared.”

Taeyeon just gulped to that.

“As for the Seo and the Im, both families are business partner, very successful ones, that’s why that Yoona girl and Joohyun are like sisters. The Kwon, are just born to be rich, the itchy witch knows that and is proud of that.”

Taeyeon was waiting for Sunny to finish her story telling, but turned out she just stayed silent and went back to her salad. The curiosity was eating her that she couldn’t help but to ask.

“And the Lee?”

“Well—“ Sunny muttered, still focused on the meal, “The Lees one of the most respectable families in South Korea.”

“You told me you’re a Lee, right?”

Sunny stopped her munching and looked up to her. Her face was a bit hard to read but smiled eventually.

“I’m a different Lee. I’m anything but related to Donghae oppa and Sungmin oppa,” she then looked down back to her salad and started playing with her food.

Taeyeon then noticed a guy entered the scene and walked coolly with his hand on his jeans’ pocket. He sat right away next to Cho Kyuhyun and talked happily with him.

“Wait, that guy seemed familiar,” Taeyeon said making the girl in front of him to turned her head to the table afar.

“Ah—Kim Kibum. A creepy guy, genius but, just creepy. No wonder he matches well with Cho Kyuhyun.”

Sunny turned her gaze back to her food.

“The Kims are also one of the most respectable families in Korea. They are often called as the rival of the Lees. They have been through some kind of a cold war with each other for years." Sunny lifted her head and stared at Taeyeon, "Wait, you’re a Kim, you surely know that right?”

“Yes, I’ve heard about that. But just like you, I’m a different Kim, I am anything but related to that Kibum guy,” she laughed softly.

“Well, we’ll just see then,” Sunny smiled.

But her smile indicated something, something that somehow sent chills to Tayeon.
