Intervention

Blood Affection

¦ intervention ¦

Saturday morning, Taeyeon got up from her bed with the sun ray penetrating the white curtains by the window; she walked and went to open them. She wished she could smile seeing those small beautiful butterflies flying around her grandma’s garden. She loved the scenery, the flowers were beautiful and the grass was as green as ever, it was spring after all.

But frown was all she could afford. She had been awake since 4 and it was 7 already. Although the dream was no longer scaring her, she still felt irritated by the nonstop replaying visions.

She was standing in a dark alley, witnessing the scariest thing she had ever seen. It was a monster in front of her. She wanted to scream but refused, she wanted to run but her feet froze, the least she could do was to close her eyes but they seemed to be too shocked to even move a muscle. She dropped everything she just bought to the rough ground. And when what she did produced a moderately loud noise, the beast in front of her turned around. Eyes were red shot, lips were full of blood, and there was something uncommon with its teeth. She still couldn’t move, but the reason was different; it wasn’t a beast, it was someone she knew dearly.

Taeyeon brought her hands to her forehead. She felt the all familiar headache coming again. It was like her brain was being torn into pieces, it wasn’t the type of headache when you’re having flu. This one was stronger and she even doubted there would be anyone else beside her ever experienced this kind of ache.

Soon as the pain subsided, she inhaled big amount of fresh morning air before exhaling slowly. She counted to ten while exhaling bits by bits on every count. She then brushed her brown hair backwards while scraping her scalp occasionally in a beautiful manner. This is what she normally did whenever feeling stressed.

---00---

Taeyeon walked down the stairs like a lifeless zombie. Her mind was not there; she was still thinking about last night’s dream. Last night’s dream was different than the ones she had prior nights. Everything was clear, the face she saw was vivid and she knew who it was. In fact she remembered meeting him somewhere not too long ago

She began to think that maybe it was all not just a mere dream. Because everything seemed too definite and real, not to mention they were all connected somehow, it was as if she was watching a movie. And the thought just frustrated her even more.

One thing she was sure of; the name that kept forming inside her head. She knew it wasn’t just any name, she knew it was an important name for her. She just didn’t know who it was and how come she felt attached to it.

Taeyeon was lost in her deep thoughts that she didn’t notice her grandmother’s presence, joining her in the kitchen. She almost jumped upon hearing the older woman’s voice.

“Good morning, Taeyeonnie,” she smiled.

“M—morning grandma,” Taeyeon replied as she went to the refrigerator and pretended to take something.

She just wanted to hide her shocked state from her grandmother and eyed the content of the fridge. She then decided to pull out the orange juice pitcher before placing it on top of the counter. She then marched to the nearest cupboard and grabbed her favorite mug.

“How’s your school life, honey?” Grandma Lee asked as she started making a batter for pancakes. She could’ve told her maids to prepare everything but she just knew how much Taeyeon loved her very own home made pancakes.

“Well, you know, nothing really special. It’s been only two weeks,” Taeyeon answered as she poured just enough portion of orange juice to her mug.

Grandma Lee hummed in response while adding some more milk to the batter.

Taeyeon was still thinking about her dreams. She was dead sure the name that kept ringing inside her head belonged to someone close to her, and there was no doubt her grandmother would know an idea of it. She was itching to throw the question but held herself back, part of her somehow felt that maybe it was all just her imagination.

“Grandma, can I ask you something?” She finally decided to ask after a few moments of staring at her grandma from across the kitchen.

Grandma Lee pinched a little amount of the batter and brought it to . She smiled lightly as she felt the taste was the exact flavor as she wanted and as Taeyeon liked. “Sure,” she responded.

Taeyeon hesitated for a while as she stared intently at her grandmother who was now busy preparing the pan. But the curiosity was eating her by the minute. She inhaled a bit more and threw her words, “Grandma, do you know any guy by the name Jungsoo?”

The name somehow made quite an impact for Grandma Lee. She stopped stirring her batter and put the bowl near the stove before turning it off. She then turned to face her granddaughter.

Her face was unreadable at first, but then she was thinking something. “The name does ring a bell,” she said while roaming the kitchen with her eyes, trying to remember something. She then made an ‘ah’ sound and looked back to Taeyeon who was patiently waiting for some answer.

“When you were little, you had a childhood friend named Jungsoo. You two grew up together and were really close with each other,” she smiled.

Taeyeon didn’t say anything, so the elder went back to her pan and started re-heating it. Taeyeon was still trying to remember her childhood. If it was true what her grandmother said, then she must’ve remembered something about it, but the fact remained; she couldn’t.

She never knew the reason why she couldn’t remember her childhood. She couldn’t remember anything from before high school. And her parents never gave her a satisfying explanation about it. She hated it.

She drank her juice in frustration as she furrowed her eyebrows. She definitely still had lots of questions she wanted to ask the lady across her. But before she could open , her back facing grandmother was the one who threw the question.

“Why do you ask, sweetie?”

“It’s…” Taeyeon started. She wasn’t really sure if it was necessary to tell her grandmother about her dreams. For all she knew they could be just any ordinary ones. Nevertheless, she continued, “I have been having these dreams about him, grandma. And it all seemed so real, like I’ve actually experienced all that.”

Grandma Lee turned to grab some plate and began putting the well-cooked pancakes on them. She then went to where Taeyeon sat before offering a plate of two pieces of pancakes and a bottle of maple syrup. Taeyeon gladly accepted them but without a hint of smile on her face.

“Maybe you just miss him. It’s been ages since you last saw him,” Grandma Lee formed a smile, a reassuring kind of one.

“But…” Taeyeon was about to say that the dreams she had been having about Jungsoo wasn’t pleasuring ones, rather daunting ones. How come she missed him if all that she saw were bad memories about him? Some things that she terribly feared even when she knew it was just some dreams.

“But?” Grandma Lee asked, urging Taeyeon to continue.

Taeyeon closed . She decided it was best not to tell her grandma any further. She didn’t want to sound exaggerated over some trivial thing. “Nothing,” she said before pouring the brown liquid all over her pancakes.

If anything else that was bothering her aside her weird dreams, it was Sunny’s constant change of attitudes. The girl barely showed her nose bridge in front of Taeyeon the past few days. She felt slightly relieved that Sunny seemed okay whenever she saw her, but it bothered her that Sunny was avoiding her at some point.

So Taeyeon just decided to confront her. The thought of her doing something wrong to Sunny just worried her.

She pressed the buzzer to the front door and waited in silence patiently. It wasn’t long until she heard some ruffling noise behind the door. The wooden door swiftly opened and revealed a blond headed girl with her usual smile.

“Taeyeon?” she almost squealed in delight rather than confusion.

“Hey,” Taeyeon smiled as Sunny pulled for a hug.

It wasn’t long until Sunny let go and smiled even brighter, “Come in.” She then opened the door wider and made some way for her friend to enter.

Sunny’s apartment wasn’t big but it was spacious enough for one person to reside. Sunny led Taeyeon straight to the living room and asked her to sit down at the couch in front of the fire place. The place was warm and peaceful.

“I’m sorry I didn’t call first,” Taeyeon stated after Sunny adjusted herself next to her.

The blonde girl shook her head with a smile plastered on her curvy lips, “No, no, it’s fine. I’m really glad to have a company.” Although it hadn’t been a minute since she sat down, she got up on her feet and started walking to the kitchen slash dining room. “Do you want some drink? Coffee or tea?”

Taeyeon, too, got up from the couch and went to the kitchen. There she saw Sunny was already boiling some water on the pot. “Anything you’re having,” Taeyeon said.

“Well, tea it is then,” Sunny smiled before grabbing some china from the cabinet above her head. “Milk?”

“No, please,” Taeyeon asked as she leaned on the nearest wall.

Sunny turned to where her friend was standing while looking at the floor. She observed her face and noticed some uneasiness on her pale face. She wasn’t really sure what caused it but she knew something was bothering her friend.

Sunny folded her arms on her chest and leaned back to the counter before opening , “Are you okay? You seemed….troubled…”

Taeyeon looked up to Sunny and, thankfully, managed to give a weak smile. She didn’t want to waste any time so she just went straight to what she came for.

“Umm,” she started, “I just wanted to ask you something.”

And when Sunny didn’t say anything to respond, the other continued, “Are we okay?”

Sunny couldn’t help but to widened her eyes. She clearly didn’t get what her friend was asking. She chukled in confusion, “What do you mean ‘are we okay’?”

“Well, I mean…” Taeyeon walked across the room until she was a few inches from where Sunny was standing. She put her hand on the counter and supported her body with it. “I hadn’t seen you for days at school and you seemed like you were avoiding me or something,” she lowered her head, “You were hanging with Im Yoona more often now.”

There was a slight silence in the room before Sunny let out her initial laugh. “Yah! What are you talking about? I wasn’t avoiding you. If I was, you wouldn’t be here inside my house, Taeng.”

When the pot whistled, signaling that the water was boiling, Sunny turned off the stove and poured the water to the cups. “It’s true though, that I’m hanging with Yoona nowadays,” she said as she dipped the tea bags to each cup.

Taeyeon looked up to her friend, “But I thought you despised her?”

“I did,” Sunny acknowledged, “But she’s Donghae oppa’s girlfriend and Donghae oppa is Sungmin oppa’s brother. I just feel wrong if I keep loathing her. Besides,” she started putting some sugar, “She’s not really that bad.”

Sunny handed one of the cups to Taeyeon, who was still not smiling. “Come on, you are not jealous are you?” Sunny smiled, slightly teasing her friend.

“I’m not…” Taeyeon looked down to her tea, “It’s just that you’re the only friend I have at school.”

Sunny felt apologetic immediately upon hearing her friend’s confession. She never intended to avoid Taeyeon or some sort, she just had been enjoying her time hanging out with Yoona. Besides, they still saw each other during some classes.

But thinking back again, Sunny did realize that she sometimes avoided talking to Taeyeon. But it wasn’t because she didn’t want to; it was because whenever Taeyeon came to her, she was always in no condition to talk to anyone.

“I’m sorry if I made you feel left alone,” Sunny stated. Her eyes were emitting the guilty feeling there was in her. “But I promise you I wasn’t avoiding you or anything.”

Taeyeon finally looked up again facing her friend. And when she saw the sincerity in Sunny’s smile, she couldn’t help but smile too. “So, we’re good, right?”

“What are you talking about? We’re never not good,” Sunny joked, making the both of them laugh.

Taeyeon slowly brought the cup to to take a sip of the very enticing hot liquid. She knew it was hot but she didn’t know that it could actually burn her lips. She was shocked by the overwhelming heat that touched her lips and tongue that she accidentally dropped the china on her hand.

The porcelain was scattered into sharp pieces, swimming in the hot liquid on the floor. Taeyeon was holding her lips with both her hands, fanning them occasionally hoping it would cool down the burning sensation. She stuck her tongue out for it to mingle with the air.

“Are you okay?” Sunny asked worriedly as she put down her own cup on the table and leaned to check on her friend.

Taeyeon nodded while still fanning her lips and tongue, “Yeah, I’m sorry…”

“No, it’s okay,” Sunny then went out of the kitchen to grab some mop to clean the mess.

Although the burnt feeling still lingered on , she bent down to clean at least the scattered porcelain while waiting for Sunny. She picked carefully one by one the chunks, not wanting to touch the still hot liquid.

But as clumsy as Taeyon always was, she picked one of the big sharp chunks in the wrong way. She yelped in pain and shock before blood started leaking from her forefinger. She ignored it for a while and continued collecting the pieces on a napkin and threw them to the bin.

She went to wash her bleeding finger on the sink, and the pain stung much more than before. She pulled her hand out of the running water harshly with a wince and turned off the tap. She took a closer look to her hand; there she noticed that it wasn’t just a scratch, but a deep one. Small stream of blood kept running out no matter how many times she tried to it.

“Are you okay?” Sunny emerged from behind Taeyeon with a mop on her hand.

Taeyeon turned to Sunny while her finger. “I’m fine,” she nodded.

Sunny’s face suddenly went pale and her eyes were widened. There was something familiar in the air; some familiar scent that she knew she wasn’t supposed to react on. When Taeyeon pulled her finger back, Sunny saw the bleeding was still going on.

Sunny started trembling all over. Her lips became dry and so was . Her eyes went hot and watery. Her fingers were shaking in their own will. She knew she shouldn’t show any of these to her friend. She thought she could handle this, but there was something different with Taeyeon’s blood.

Sunny closed her eyes abruptly to hide her heating eyes and turned her body around to avoid her friend’s questioning stare. She clasped both her hands together, trying to fight the urging feeling inside her. The lust, the desire, the need just crawled inside her head and she knew she might give in at any moment.

The only thing that was holding her was the fact that it was her friend and she didn’t want to hurt her.

“Sunny, are you alright?”

The blonde girl didn’t respond but keep shivering instead. Taeyeon watched her friend’s back moving rapidly, she knew Sunny’s was panting but she didn’t know why. She tried to come near her, slightly feeling worried, but then stopped immediately when Sunny suddenly barked.

“Stay away!”

The scene reminded Taeyeon of the same incident a few days ago at the class. But this time there was something different in Sunny’s voice. It wasn’t like Sunny at all, and that terrified Taeyeon. But she was stubborn enough to still walked slowly just to make sure her friend was alright.

She walked a few inches, with her still bleeding finger, and slowly put her hand on Sunny’s shoulder. “Hey,” Taeyeon slowly turned Sunny’s body, “Are you alright?”

Sunny’s head was hung low down and her whole body was still shaking. The more Taeyeon neared her, the harsher her breathing became. She cursed herself for not being able to control her body and mind, she also cursed her friend for being so stubborn and stupid.

She closed her eyes tightly. She fought every fiber inside her body to react on the situation, but she was failing slowly. The scent was just too strong and she was longing for it. She tried to hold her breath but her body wouldn’t let her.

“Leave me alone, Taeng,” Sunny said in a low yet shaky voice as she buried her face in her hands.

Taeyeon shook her head in disagreement, “No, how can I leave you alone? Are you sick?”

Taeyeon lifted Sunny’s head with both her hands and tried to remove Sunny’s hands that were covering her face. Once she succeeded, she saw how Sunny was closing her eyes tightly as if trying to suppress something.

When Sunny felt Taeyeon’s fingers brushing against her hands, she inhaled deeply the scent that had been driving her crazy. She wanted to stop but she couldn’t help it anymore. She opened her eyes abruptly and stared at her friend. But it wasn’t long until she moved her gaze to the bleeding finger on her hand; the blood was touching it as well.

Taeyeon gasped when she saw Sunny. Her eyes were crimson red full of lust, the lips were pale and chappy as if she was dehydrated. It wasn’t the Sunny she knew. She pulled her hands roughly and walked back a few steps.

It was like that scene all over again. She wanted to scream but she couldn’t, she wanted to run but her feet felt heavy. Everything reminded her of something in the past.

“S…Sunny—“

Sunny’s breathing became impossibly heavier and harsher, even almost panting. Her eyes stuck at the bleeding finger of Taeyeon’s. Every breath she inhaled took her sanity away; she was losing control of her body. She took one deep breath of the intoxicating scent and she lost it.

She jumped to her friend in quite a speed that the both of them crashed the refrigerator, causing some of the displays on top of it to fall down and crash.

It was in a blink of an eye for Taeyeon to realize her friend being thrown across the dining table. She didn’t even have enough time to make a sound out of fear and shock or to figure out who just saved her.

Sunny’s back hit the wall roughly but she didn’t yelp in pain at all. And before she could get back on her feet to attack her friend again, a guy blocked her way held her face with both his hands.

“Sunny-ah, control yourself.” That heartwarming voice penetrated Sunny’s eardrum. She knew she needed to control herself but she just couldn’t. The feeling was just too strong and the scent made it worse.

Sunny tried to escape the hands as hard as she could but the guy was much more stronger. She clenched her eyes tightly once again and let a loud groan out as she tried to hold back her zest. “Ugh, I can’t, oppa…” she cried.

“Sungmin-ssi…” Taeyeon trailed from across the room.

Sungmin snapped his head towards Taeyeon in a harsh motion, “Taeyeon-ssi, I don’t care what you do just stop your bleeding!”

Taeyeon was frozen by the sight. Sungmin’s eyes were also crimson red but somehow his figure was much more stable than Sunny’s.

“Now!”

Taeyeon jumped at the shouting and immediately went to the sink. She washed her blood once again before grabbing another napkin. She pressed it hard on her wound in order to stop the blood from streaming out again.

Sungmin focused again on the still struggling Sunny. He no longer smelled Taeyeon’s blood but Sunny kept on wincing in pain. He just couldn’t stand the sight. He brought one of his hands to his mouth and bit his own wrist, deep enough for the vein to emit his own blood.

He shoved his bleeding wrist to Sunny’s mouth, and soon he felt the other responded at the fluid. He winced a bit as he felt Sunny’s teeth sinking his flesh, trying to gain more access. When he felt Sunny’s body relaxed a bit, he slowly retrieved his other hand only to put it on Sunny’s blonde hair. He it lovingly and brought her to his embrace.

“Shh, it’s okay, just drink,” he whispered.

Sunny finally had enough. She let go of Sungmin’s wrist and drowned herself into Sungmin’s cold embrace. “I’m sorry,” she mumbled against Sungmin’s chest, slightly sniffing.

“It’s okay, it’s okay,” Sungmin reassured his still trembling girlfriend while kissing her head repeatedly.

After a moment of recovery, Sunny finally managed to pull herself together. She slowly pulled herself away tried to calm herself once again. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Thankfully the scent was no longer there. It was that or Sungmin’s blood was enough to satisfy her sudden thirst.

Sungmin felt a slight guilt inside his chest. He knew how hard it was when he was trained by Leeteuk to restrain himself from human’s blood long time ago, so it hurt him a lot to see Sunny experienced what he once experienced. It was such a dilemma for him, but he was more than well aware that everything has its price. And this is one of the consequences that he and Sunny were willing to take.

“You okay?” Sungmin asked as he lifted Sunny’s face with his hands. “Did I hurt your back?”

Sunny slowly opened her eyes after shaking her head. She stared lovingly at those worrying eyes, mentally thanking him for coming right on time. She really didn’t want to hurt her friend.

Her eyes then switched to the girl standing far behind Sungmin. Taeyeon was standing still while pressing the black napkin on her finger, looking back straight at Sunny’s eyes. No fear was indicated in Taeyeon’s gaze, no confusion, nothing. It was as if she was used to the incident.

Sungmin, too, realized that there was another person in the room who shouldn’t have witnessed the happenings earlier. He turned around and landed his stare on the brown haired girl. Leeteuk was right, she was pretty.

He knew very well that he must erased her memory after what she saw, but that would probably make Leeteuk’s effort goes to waste. As much as how wrong he thought his hyung’s doings were, he didn’t want to see Leeteuk in agony again.

“Taeyeon-ssi,” Sungmin blurted, “I think you should leave now.”

Taeyeon kept her gaze locked with Sunny’s, but her mind wasn’t thinking about what happened earlier. She was blinded by the similarity of her dream and was deep in thoughts about it. She had seen this somewhere. She had seen someone biting someone’s wrist. She tried to remember when and where it was because she knew it was no longer just an ordinary dream, it was her own experience, her memory.

Her head hurt like hell again.

But slowly Sungmin’s words penetrated her mind and she went back to where she stood. She looked briefly towards Sungmin, whose eyes were back to its normal dark brown color. And without saying a word, she dashed outside the kitchen to the living room before grabbing her stuffs. She then left the house in a rush pace.

The headache was unbearable and she felt her head was about to crack into half at any minute.
