The Blind Side
The Blind Side“Hyung-ah.” Four young men knelt on the side of a small earth mound.
Each had a bouquet of flowers by their side. Youngest to second oldest, lined up one by one.
“Minsoo hyung is coming. We forgot to buy some incense…he’ll be along soon.” Ricky, now 33, smiled lowly at the grave.
I’m back, why can’t you see me?
Minsoo came back quickly, his nose red from the cold.
The five of them had aged almost none whatsoever since they were teenagers, since they were Teen Top. Yet now, the five of them had kids, had wives and had lives other than show business.
But they didn’t have Chang Hee.
Chang Hee died, a long time ago. They were preparing for one of their concerts when the news arrived that Chang Hee was hit by a truck.
He died the day before his eighteenth birthday.
And Teen Top was officially ruined. But the other five continued. Their careers bloomed as solo artists, guest artists and even actors.
But the shadow still remained.
“Chang Hee-ah.” Minsoo smiled, his eyes disappearing.
“It’s been seventeen years. Seventeen years that you left us. Did we tell you? Inkigayo wants us to come together once more to sing Clap as Teen Top to celebrate your death.” The other four laughed quietly.
Minsoo knelt down on the damp ground. “But what is there to celebrate Chang Hee-ah? What is there to celebrate when you’ve left?”
I haven’t gone. Not once.
Silence filled the air as the four dongsaengs and single hyung bowed to the grave.
They left, one by one, and before the silhouette of the last one Ahn Daniel disappeared, he turned around, and grinned up at the sky.
“Bo go shi po hyung.”
I miss you too.
