Description
It’s unfortunate when a wolf turns rogue; unfortunate, but not uncommon.
A large percentage of the changing wolves can’t handle the onslaught of power and the burden of the responsibility that comes hand in hand with being a supernatural beast.
Usually, they can be left alone - the others prefer to forget them; to pretend like they never existed in the pack. Mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers are forced to eradicate all memory and emotion that come with their missing member.
But there is one that is legendary; one that no one is allowed to forget because he makes sure of it; one rogue out in the wild that has every breathing organism out there cowering in fear.
This rogue is reckless yet careful, skilled but brash, rebellious and taunting.
He is a shape-shifter, the most elusive and dangerous of all wolves.
He is Chanyeol the Murderer.
Foreword
He takes the utmost care in making sure that his steps match hers in sound, width and speed.
Not only that, but he quickens his breathing marginally to mirror hers, so that the puffs of foggy air erupt from their mouths at the same time as they walk down the cold streets of the City.
When she stuffs her hands in her pockets, so does he. When she falters in her steps to readjust her shoelaces, so does he.
It is interesting for him to analyse the humans. It stirs a curiosity inside of him that has lain dormant for eons.
He doesn’t quite understand what makes them tick; he doesn’t understand how they thrive. He doesn’t understand technology, he doesn’t understand transport, he doesn’t understand education.
If anything, his frustration towards them stems simply from their lack of power. He cannot, will not fathom what it is like to be just a living, breathing piece of flesh with no sort of ability.
He does not understand how the human race can function.
What use are they? He has argued many a time. Such a waste of space; so self-centred, so materialistic and so utterly fragrant and delicious.
The girl darts her head back to look at him. He stares right back into her eyes and grins internally when her breathing kicks up a notch.
His does too.
She walks faster, but his legs are longer.
Eventually her breaths are coming in short gasps, her hair is waving around her head in long brown octopus-like tendrils as she sprints down the empty street.
She turns one last time to open to scream.
She inhales, and he lunges.
