Planning and Designing

My Cotton Candy Boy

OMG, I JUST NOTICED, I MISSED A WHOLE SECTION AT THE END OF THE LAST CHAPTER! Please go back and read the last couple of paragraphs please? It ended awkwardly TT^TT

               *Bzzt….Bzzt……Bzzt…..Bzzt…..Bzzt…..Bzzt…..Bzzt….*

“What is this….I don’t even…..” Yeon ah scrambled out of her bed and grabbed her vibrating phone off her dresser. “Hello? Do you even know what time it is right now?”

“Uh, hey, it’s Young Won. Is this a bad time?”

                “Yes. You woke me up.”

“Sorry. I thought you’d be up by now. It’s 12 in the afternoon.”

“I got home late last night because of work. Waking up at 12 on a Saturday is early for me. Anyway, since I’m up and we have a lot to do, come on over.”

“Okay, I’ll be there by 1. See you in a bit.” Yeon Ah pressed the end button and threw her phone onto her bed [A/N: I do this all the time LOL and every single time I do, I have a heart attack and check my phone after to see if it’s okay XD] She quickly took a shower and threw on some sweats and a hoodie. Grabbing a sketch book, some pencils, felts, and a lined notebook, she ran downstairs and saw her brother sitting in the dining room, typing away on his laptop.

“Hey bro. Dong Rim is on his way here. We need to work on the plans for the Halloween dance, so the dining room will be off limits.”

“Can’t you go to your room?”

“Nope. I need the table space.”

“Fine. Seems like he’s here. I’ll get the door.” Daniel ran to the front door and opened it. He greeted his band mate and brought him to the dining room. “I’ll be taking my leave. Call me if you need anything,” he snatched up his laptop and ran to his room.

For the next 8 hours, they discussed, planned, drew, bickered, and made lists and lists of things they needed for the dance. They calculated the costs and hours of labour needed to put together the event.

“Finally! We’re done!” Young Won stretched out his sore arms. Yeon Ah stood up to crack her back and neck.

“This is only half of it. Remember, we still have to work on the haunted house,” she pointed out.

“Right! I forgot. Well anyway, let’s go over the master list one final time,” he held out the piece of paper to Yeon Ah. She took it from him and read it aloud.

“First, general information. Theme: Masquerade Costume Party. 4 prizes total; categories are: ‘Best Costume’, ‘Wackiest Costume’, ‘Best Couple Costume’, and ‘Most Creative Mask’. Second, specific details. Cost: advertising-approx. $50 work of printing; decorations- minimum $100 if we’re lucky; sound system/music-free since the school is bursting with musicians and equipment; refreshments/snacks-approx. $400 to cater for the whole entire school. Grand total for everything, $550 give or take a couple hundred,” Yeon Ah dropped the sheet of paper down. Young Won was sprawled on the table, completely beat from planning. “Ugh, what time is it anyway? HOLY SMOKES, it’s already 9. You should head home,” she poked Young Won on the shoulder.

“So….hungry….” he mumbled. That was when Yeon Ah realized that she, too, was hungry as heck. They had worked non-stop and didn’t eat nor drink anything the whole day. She ran into the kitchen and dug through the fridge for some juice boxes and grabbed a box of cookies from the pantry.

“Hey, eat this. Sorry, it’s not much,” she poked the straw into the juice box and handed it to him. He greedily took it. She opened the box of cookies and pushed it towards him. He grabbed one and munched on it. They finished all the cookies and juice and sat back in their chairs.

“I guess we’re going to have to work on the haunted house tomorrow, huh?” Young Won pulled out his phone to check the time and text his manager.

“No can do. I’ve got work tomorrow and on Monday. I can skip fencing practice on Tuesday and we can work on it then?” she cracked her knuckles [A/N: this is such a bad habit of mine >_<].

“Alright. Don’t over work yourself. Tell me whenever you feel tired. I’ll help you out,” he gave her a thumbs up, which she returned with an okay sign. A car honked outside.

“Manager Kim is here. I’ll see you on Tuesday,” she walked him to the door and waved goodbye. He slipped on his shoes and waved back before running into the van. She closed the door and took the things from the dining room. In her room, she placed all of the papers on her dresser before flopping onto the bed and falling right to sleep.

Tuesday

Yeon Ah bowed to her sponsor teacher. “Thank you. And I’m sorry I have to miss practice.”

“It’s A-Okay! Just make sure the dance is good!” Yeon Ah laughed and bowed out of the gym. She pulled out her phone and quickly texted Young Won.

(Dong Rim! I’m heading to the library now. -Yeon Ah)

She jogged to the main building and through the hallways towards the library. Her phone buzzed in her pocket.

(Okay! I’m sitting at the back tables. -Young Won)

Quietly, she entered the library and searched for Young Won. A blob of blue through the bookshelf caught her attention and she tip toed over. He was hunched over his notebook, doodling some small pictures and was unaware of Yeon Ah’s presence. Rolling up her sleeves, Yeon Ah lightly tapped his shoulder.

“AH! SCARED ME. Don’t do that! Nearly gave me a heart attack,” Young Won clutched his chest, trying to bring down his increased heart rate. Yeon Ah quietly laughed at him and Young Won laughed along with her. They settled down and got out their supplies.

“Here’s the plan. The principal and I had a talk yesterday, and he said that we’ll be having the haunted house in the gym. He wants us to set up the haunted house the night before so that teachers can take their homeroom classes through during the day. Then, when the tours are done, the haunted house will be torn down and we will set up the things for the dance right after school. Have the dance at night, tear it down, and it’ll be all over!” Yeon Ah’s eyes glossed over as she envisioned the end of the tunnel. However, her bliss was short-lived when Young Won snapped her back to reality. She glared at him and rested her chin on her upturned palm.

“So, today we just have to design the haunted house and plot out the layout?”

“Sadly, yes. It’s not going to be easy. We have to build the walls on our own,” she sighed at the thought. “Well, there’s no time for sulking. Let’s start.” They took out some lined paper and some graphing paper. “Let’s make a list of different rooms for the haunted house.”

“Okay. All haunted houses need a clown room. And a mirror room,” Young Won listed of rooms and Yeon Ah quickly wrote them down. They threw around more possibilities and finally ended up with a list of 8 ‘rooms’.

“So, our final list. We have the zombie living room, the butchered limbed kitchen, the trapped girl bathroom, the clown bedroom, the mirrored bedroom, the torture master bedroom, the ghost music room, and the cemetery backyard. Did I miss anything?” Young Won shook his head. They stretched out their arms. “Since I’m a hopeless wreck with art, you’re going to have to sketch out the layout,” she sheepishly handed the graphing paper over to him. He smiled and took it from her. He drew out the gym.

“Where should we put it? I think we should use these two exits,” he pointed to the two side doors that entered from the school. Yeon Ah tried to picture it in her head.

“I think we should have it next to the stage. They enter from this side door and exit outside. Also, it’s be easier for us to monitor it because we could sit on the catwalk on stage. It’ll give us a view of everything below,” she traced the area next to the stage on the sketch.

“Smart. Okay, so they enter the first room here, then move left, forward, right, forward, left, forward, right, then out the exit. Since the gym is 66 feet in width, each room should be 16.5’x 16’,” Young Won drew out the rooms for Yeon Ah to see.

“Cool. Now that we have that out of the way, let’s figure out what materials we need and the cost. This is the hard part,” she grimaced and took out her laptop. They took almost 4 hours to find the best prices for supplies and figure out the cheapest ways to build the walls. What they came up with was ingenious. Instead of buying wood, they would buy cheap black cloth for walls. They found a factory that rented inexpensive metal frames that they could clip and attach the black cloth to. As for furniture, they figured they could use desks and chairs from the classrooms and make them into couches, cupboards, and beds.

“So, our overall total for all our supplies should be approx. $1000,” Young Won punched some numbers into his calculator. “I wonder if the principal is willing to give us this much? On top of the price for the dance as well. It’s about 2 grand for everything.”

“The school’s full of rich kids, so I’m sure there’s an abundance of funds provided to the school,” Yeon Ah cracked her neck and checked her watch. “Holy crap, guess what time it is.”

                “Hmm? What time?”

                “It’s 10 pm.”

“What?! Really?! I’ve got to call Manager Hyung.”

“I’ve got to call Daniel. He’s probably freaking out right now.” She pulled out her phone to find 10 missed calls, 10 voice mails, and 20 unread text messages. ‘Great, he’s freaking out.’ She dialled his number and was immediately connected.

“Where are you!? How come you didn’t pick up my calls?” Daniel was furious. He had been pacing in the living room for the last 3 hours. So much that a small trail started forming in the carpet.

“Sorry, Danny. I’m at the school right now. I’ve been working on the haunted house since after school with Dong Rim,” she glanced over at Young Won and saw that he was nervously scratching the back of his neck. ‘Looks like he’s also getting a mouthful from the Manager.’

                “Well, when are you done?”

“We just finished. I’ll be home soon.”

                “Better be! I’ll be waiting.”

“Okay. See you later, mom,” she stuck her tongue out at the phone, even though she knew he would never see it. “Did you get in a lot of trouble?”

“Not a lot. He just told me to call him next time. Anyway, he’s on his way here, but it’ll take him around 40 minutes. If you want, you can leave first. I can just wait here until he arrives.”

“I’ll wait. You never know, there might be some rabid fangirls waiting outside,” they laughed and walked out to the parking lot.

“You really don’t have to wait. I’m sure Daniel is worried.”

“Are you trying to get rid of me? Plus, Daniel would kill me if I left you here by yourself. He treasures his career, and you’re a big part of it,” Yeon Ah hopped onto her bike and sat sideways on the seat. She patted the seat next to her, offering Young Won a spot. He leaned against the bike, rather than sitting.

“So, since we have 40 minutes to kill, let’s get to know each other better. The only thing I know about you is you’re Daniels twin sister, you’re an amazing musician, and you ride a motorcycle,” he glanced over at her.

“What else do you want to know?”

“What other hobbies do you have? What’s your favourite colour? Pet peeves? I don’t know, anything I guess.”

“Hmm. Okay. Other than music, I love fencing. I hate art with the intensity of 1000 suns. My favourite colour is green. My bad habits are cracking my knuckles, back, or neck, and pulling on my hair when I’m stressed. My biggest pet peeve is fangirls and their obnoxious behaviours. And my biggest dilemma in life is whether or not I should choose the pink or blue cotton candy. Lame, I know. Um, I’m indifferent to my surroundings unless the outcome affects me. I come off as being a very blunt person, because I am. I hate people who beat around the bush. Random fact, I’m stronger than my brother. Your turn.” Young Won chortled at her witty answers.

“Okay. I love dancing. I don’t hate anything. My favourite colour is red [A/N: this is a completely random colour!]. My biggest pet peeve is not getting the dance right. My biggest dilemma in life is dancing. I’m a people person and love socializing. Random fact, I’m from Busan.” Yeon Ah laughed and she couldn’t stop. “What’s so funny?”

“Your life is dance, but it’s your dilemma. How does that work?”

“Well, singing and dancing is my life and I love them, but because it’s my profession, it causes problems.”

“Somehow, that works. Question, why did they dye your hair blue?”

“I honestly don’t know why. Did you know, they bleached my hair 8 times to get the right colour? My poor head has taken a beating,” Young Won pretended to sob into his sleeve. Yeon Ah giggled. “Did you just giggle?”

“Uh, no,” she shifted in her seat and looked everywhere but at him.

“You totally did! Admit it!” he danced around the bike and flailed his arms around.

“So what if I did? You should feel honoured because I’ve only ever giggled in front of my brother and parents,” she punched him on the arm. He rubbed the sore spot and resumed his position on the bike.

                “You punch hard.”

“I know. Stop complaining and take it like a man.” At a loss for words, Young Won could only stick his tongue out at her. They sat in a comfortable silence until a pair of headlights shone into the parking lot. “Looks like your ride is here. I’ll see you tomorrow.” She turned around in her seat and shoved her helmet on. They waved and she drove off into the night.

“WHAT HAPPENED TO ‘I’LL BE HOME SOON’?! I’ve been waiting for almost an hour now!” Daniel angrily stared at Yeon Ah with his hands on his hips and his foot tapping furiously. Yeon Ah closed the front door and slipped off her shoes.

“I was keeping your friend company while waiting for his ride to come. I knew you’d kill me if I left him alone for 40 minutes,” she walked past him and he relaxed.

“When you put it that way, I forgive you,” he hugged her and she squirmed out of his grasp.

“Hey, Danny? Don’t ever greet me like that again. You looked like an angry diva. Doesn’t suit your style, just saying,” she waved at him from the stairs and bolted to her room, laughing.

“YAH! At least I can act feminine!”

I read chap 2 and I'm on chap 3, the funny thing is, I have a HUGE crush on this guy named Daniel Cho, and people call him Danny so it's kinda awkward for me to see Danny or Daniel in a story... :P
