Chapter 31

Guardian

It looks like this is a medium sized chappie because I decided the next chapter will have a lot of explaining in it. So many people to pay attention, too. T_T So much hard work. Excuse me for mistakes or confusion. CRUCIAL NOTE: Er, so I decided I might delete my 'Maknae Love' story and restart the earlier version. People might not like it, but you have to be patient. I'll do that soon, after telling my friends who read it. Thanks for commenting or subscribing because it cheers me up to write more! This is the first story every to exceed my expectations of chapters and views. I love you guys so much! I especially love people who comment because it's nice to hear your thoughts. RANDOM NOTE: I need help to decide on the couple name for Kai and Alaina. Should it be 'Kaina' or 'Jongina'? Or what's your opinion? Please tell me in a comment. Thank you! ^_^

(Third Person POV)

They were passed on the ground - whatever the ground was anyway. Slowly, they regained their consciousness and gradually woke up one by one.

Kai was the first to sit up and rub at his eyes at the gentle light. His eyes widened in astonishment.

"Wh-where are we?" he stammered in bafflement. All around them was the same colored dimension. From top to bottom, side to side, the background was like the azure color of the sky, with white wisps languidly hovering about, and a silver sparkled here and there in the blue. When he stood up...well he could stand like it was solid ground.

"How are we all together?" questioned Onew when he woke up and peered at his companions. "I thought we spread out in different places in the church..."

"Ah! Look! It's B.A.P.!" exclaimed Sehun, pointing. Four demons, Yongguk, Youngjae, Daehyun, and Zelo were steadily regaining their consciousness, flickering open their eyes, and groaning as they tried to get up.

Minho swiveled his head around. "But where's Jongup and Himchan?"

"What's going on?" Baekhyun asked, voice shaken up. The only who didn't seem dumbfounded or confused was Taemin. He peered about, thinking that the feeling around them was so familiar and gentle.

"You are in the dream world - mine to be exact," answered an angelic voice. Soothing and warm. They all gasped and turned around to see Alaina walking towards them. She looked fine and healthy, but her clothes were different. She wore a white tunic dress with a blue sash tied around her waist, her arms laced with ribbons that sheened the colors of the rainbow, and she was barefoot.

"Alaina!" Both Kai and Taemin ran up to her. She smiled softly as they embraced her very tightly.

Kai grasped her shoulders. "Are you okay?" he asked her seriously.

Alaina nodded amiably. "I'm fine." She reached up to rub her thumb across his cheek. "And so are you."

"Alaina," spoke up Suho hesitantly. "If we're in the your dream world, why are only part of B.A.P. with us?"

"Why are they even here?" said Chanyeol with a frown.

Alaina edged away from her soulmates, but they hovered by her side instinctively, Taemin held her hand. She was only a few feet away from the four fallen B.A.P. members who didn't bother rise to their feet, only kneeling or sitting on the ground. They were still injured and worn like the rest of them, but the very most.

They didn't even look up to meet her soft, unbiased gaze. They were...ashamed.

"Kamsamnida, for telling me who I really am," she told Yongguk in a low voice.

Yongguk stared at the ground. "You would've known any other way," he replied solemnly.

"What are you two talking about?" asked Jonghyun, perplexed at the hidden exchange of words.

Alaina looked at Onew meaningfully and he returned her gaze in puzzlement. "I think you know, Onew oppa. It's true. It explains everything, right?"

Onew's eyes widened then tightened. "N-ne," he managed to reply reluctantly. "I-I hope it wasn't true. You looked too innocent..."

"And that's only more of a hint," Alaina reminded him. Her voice was so gentle and honest as she said, "Your search is over, my dear guardians. I am the Peacemaker."

The guardians gasped incredulously. "W-what?"

"There's no doubt," spoke up Youngjae. "It's been confirmed by so many of our high-ups and even the King himself." He inclined his head at Alaina. "It's her. She's the Chosen One."

Alaina nodded in agreement. "The protection spell on me finally disappeared. I was able to use my ES more adequately and bring us here."

Taemin's hand tightened around Alaina's. "Impossible," he breathed, overwhelmed by the fact.

"Now everything makes more sense!" exclaimed Key, waving his hands in the air from realization. Then he shot a glare at his leader who flinched innocently. "Why didn't you tell us Lee Jinki!" he accused.

"Uh - I didn't think it'd be a good idea..." blubbered Onew, looking away sheepishly. Jonghyun face-palmed himself at his foolish leader and Minho sighed, shaking his head.

Alaina smiled very sincerely at B.A.P. There was warmth in her chocolate orbs. "You helped me realize who I am, now I brought you four here to choose."

"Choose what?" asked Daehyun tiredly.

"When I transferred all of you into the dream world, I saw memories of what happened to you," clarified Alaina. "I saw and felt your lives like it was my own." She casted her gaze at Zelo sympathetically and he stiffened. "I saw how Block B suddenly cornered the six of you one night. They basically left everyone but Zelo on the verge of death. They told him he had two decisions to choose from. Decline the offer and all die, or accept the offer and serve the King for eternity as newly raised demons. Zelo, who didn't want to be the reason his friends had died, accepted the offer for all of them, and they changed as the King's minions. Block B had known the six of you would be exceptional enough and you survived through harsh training and had been bound to serve your master, to never leave and always obey." Alaina's voice grew stronger and more sure. "Right now, I give you a choice. If you promise to never do evil or afflict harm on the innocent, I will sever the covenant that binds you."

"But that will take away our immortality and revert us back to humans," said Youngjae. "We'll die."

"I am the Peacemaker, accept my offer, and I assure you will have your second chance in life," Alaina said calmly.

The demons hesitated, unsure what would happen.

With her free hand, Alaina touched the spot a little below her collarbone. Suddenly the area glowed and Alaina grasped at something. She held out her hand for everyone to see. They all saw the pretty black-magenta butterfly before it disintegrated into dust and the particles flew away.

Alaina looked at Zelo again, he had a guilty look on his face. "You used a Lilith Butterfly to influence me in my sleep," she stated simply.

Zelo nodded slowly. "Mian," he muttered.

"You told me that we were friends," she said, recalling his words. "That you'd free me from my prison. Well now I want to free you. Won't you let me help you?"

Zelo blinked in surprised and pursed his lips in vexation. He couldn't decide, but he wanted to.

"The King will never control you," Alaina said confidently. "You will be brothers again."

"What about Jongup and Himchan?" questioned Yongguk.

Alaina shook her head in dismay. "They were too corrupted. They gave in and forgot their humanity. When my ES flare out, they also passed out, but they did not come here."

"At least I can kill them," mumbled Jonghyun and Alaina pointedly ignored that.

"I-I think we should do it," Zelo said quietly.

Daehyun nodded once. "I trust her, she's a good kid."

"Might as well," Youngjae said with a shrug but winced at the pain. "I hate being ordered around."

Yongguk sighed, seeing he was the last to decide. "Fine," he submitted. "We accept your offer."

Alaina smiled sweetly. Then suddenly, swirls of her ES surrounded the four demons in a gentle touch. Alaina closed her eyes and concentrated. Everyone watched in amazement.

"As the Peacemaker, I can change mortality if one accepts it," she said in a mature tone. "Fate has allowed me to give you your true calling." A symbol shone in a blue light in the center of her forehead. The Peacemaker's symbol.

Four glowing orbs dropped and fluttered down from above them. The orbs were nearly translucent and were cloudy, glowing in different faint colors. The four demons widened their eyes.

"I give you back your souls that no longer belong to evil," finalized Alaina, and pointed with one hand. The fours orbs scattered to their owners and were absorbed back into them. The symbol on her forehead vanished.

"The influence over mortality," murmured Taemin in wonder. "Over right and wrong. Good and evil." His soulmate was absolutely amazing.

A type of light were lit in the demon's eyes, and their skin wasn't so white and colorless.

"You are no longer servants of the Demon King," declared Alaina proudly and brightly. She smiled kindly at them. "You are fellow guardians."

"Bwo?" blurted out Sehun, nearly tripping back if D.O. hadn't steadied him.

"A-are you kidding me?" Zelo said, flabbergasted. His eyes were wide and bright. "A guardian? Me? Us?"

Youngjae laughed at the maknae's shocked yet elated face. "Zelo's dream come true!"

"You have all your powers and the guardians' lifespan," assured Alaina. "I guarantee you."

Chanyeol crossed his arms and rolled his eyes. "Oh, great. This will be hard to adjust to. Bad guys turn good. Yipee!" At the sarcasm, Baekhyun smacked his soulmate behind the head.

"Was that really a good idea?" Minho asked Alaina skeptically.

"They will not betray us if that's what you're thinking," said Alaina, sure. "They have their own freewill now." She gently released her hand from Taemin's grasp and approached the newly converted guardians. Her expression was slightly sober and determined. "But in return for returning your souls, I must take payment. To equalize the deal."

"What do you mean?" asked Kai warily, narrowing his eyes. "What kind of payment?" He didn't like the sound of that.

"One of my most distinct powers has awakened since the spell wore off," said Alaina. "It is called 'Transmission'. I can transmite memories, emotions, dreams, and even pain back and forth from me and whoever I want." She held out her hand and her ES encased B.A.P. in a small dome. "I can't heal pain, but I can take it away and bare it myself."

Then B.A.P. felt their injuries be 'healed' and taken away from them like it never existed. Alaina made a small, disgruntled sound. Her left arm turned into a bad color and seemed limp as if she was internally bleeding. Her other arm had a deep circular wound on her upper arm. Scrapes and cuts began to appear on her skin, from her face to her legs. Everyone widened their eyes in bewilderment. The injuries that were once B.A.P.'s were now Alaina's.

"Ani, Alaina!" cried out Key, seeing her bleed from open wounds.

"Stop it!" Zelo protested. "You're hurting yourself!"

"Alaina!" cried out Kai. Both him and Taemin rushed forward to catch Alaina as she fell to her knees in pain and exhaustion. She was breathing hard, enduring the pain as best as she could. Her chest heaved, and her head felt heavy.

"That is why the Peacemaker is known to be the Bearer of Pain," breathed Alaina in a whisper, her eyes fluttering. Everyone ran over to her as she rested against Taemin, loosing strength and badly hurt.

Yongguk grinded his teeth in frustration. "That stupid girl. Seriously? I had internally damaged the muscles and bone structure in Zelo's arm! And she took it!"

"That's leader's power," said Daehyun gravely. "'Internal Destruction'. But when used against a person, it's called 'Internal Bleeding'."

Key and Suho examined Alaina's injuries and paled. Silent tears were falling down Taemin's face while Kai looked lost. Taemin only held onto her tenderly as she looked at her soulmates fondly with dimming eyes.

"She won't last long," Suho stated grimly, trying to hold in his fear. "She'll die if we don't heal her quick. She's bleeding too much, inside and out. And her arm his broken." At the bad news, Sehun also began crying and Suho reached out to hug the maknae soothingly.

"Poor princess," Sehun sniffed.

"We have to get Lay," D.O. insisted desperately. "He's the best healer we know."

"Ne, we will," agreed Onew, deadpanned.

"I'll release everyone from the dream," whispered Alaina faintly, her eyes drooping. "I can't hold it for much longer." Her last words echoed in their ears as light blinded them.

"Everything will be alright."

...

(Third Person POV)

For EXO-M, it was just another ordinary day in Beijing. Since they had no school that day, many of them decided to stay and chill out in their large condo and do their patrols later on at night.

Lay was contently reading a book, huddled up in the couch, with his earplugs on, listening to music. Xiumin was in the kitchen as usual, picking out snacks to eat. Chen was watching a drama with Tao on the other side of the main room. Luhan and Kris were enjoying the evening breeze out on the balcony, talking about their day.

They all glanced up, alerted when they sensed an ES they haven't felt in a while. Purple-black tendrils materialized and Kai appeared in the main room.

Normally Kris would've scolded the rebellious guardian not to use his powers so recklessly, but when he saw the boy's face, his words died in his throat.

Kai looked heartbroken, scared, and had been crying, his eyes glistening.

"Kai!" cried out Chen in alarm. They all converged towards him. "What's wrong?"

Kai was looking at Lay like he was the last hope he had in life.

"L-Lay hyung," choked Kai in a desperate tone. "I-I need your help. M-My soulmate...she's dying."

"You have a soulmate?!" they all shouted incredulously except Lay, who turned concerned in an instant, understanding most of what the younger guardian said.

"Take me to her," he said in his best Korean.

"Wait, what about us?" Xiumin interceeded in perfect Korean, touching Lay's shoulder.

"And how is your soulmate dying?" demanded Kris, also speaking in Korean. His eyes narrowed at Kai's left hand. It was true, the mark of the ringlet tattoo proved he had one.

"I-I'll just take you a-all to her," said Kai in a shaky voice. "Suho hyung will explain things to you." He swallowed thickly.

Kris nodded amiably, seeing the emergency. "Alright, everyone hold onto each other!" he ordered.

They all tightly grasp hands and held onto Kai the most. He immediately teleported in a swirl of smoke-like tendrils. Their feet landed on carpeted ground. They were in one of the living room downstairs of the SHINee house. A home decorated like wonderland.

"LAY!" cried out the rest of EXO-K when they saw him. Lay yelped as they ran towards him. D.O. and Sehun each grabbed his wrists and dragged him upstairs. Everyone else followed in confusion or haste.

"LAY'S HERE!" shouted Chanyeol as they all bursted through the door of one bedroom. They skidded to a halt and took in the scene for a moment.

The bedroom was crowded with too many people. EXO-M recognized SHINee but there were four extra and unfamiliar people. They all hovered near or had their attention to the bed.

A girl to be precise.

She was nearly lifeless and badly injured. Her left arm was discolored and seemed broken from the inside. Her other arm was patched up but blood stained the gauze. Scrapes and cuts and bruises marred her skin from her slack face to her bare legs. Her eyes were barely opened and her chest heaved very slowly for air. It was like watching a dying star fade out.

Despite being in this terrible condition, she looked like an angel.

Taemin had her head resting in his lap, staring down at her with such pain in his eyes, you would think he was the one about to die. Tears streamed down his beautiful face and dripped onto the girl. He would rub away the tears off her pale face but more would fall like rain. Onew and Key were kneeling by the bed. Onew held the girl's hand, very comforting and carefully. He murmured words like 'stay awake' or 'hold on a bit longer' now and then. Key was restless and distraught, also looking like he had cried but now was restraining himself. He wiped the sweat off the girl's face and neck and tended the best with the life-threatening wounds. Jonghyun was standing behind his soulmate, rubbing Key's shoulders soothingly, but also to reassure himself. Minho was slouched against the other side of the bed, looking worn and hopeless.

Whoever this girl was, impacted all of them very, very dramatically.

Kai ran up to the bed and touched the girl's serenic face. Her eyes fluttered at his warm touch.

"Kai," she whispered, barely audible. Her voice was angelic even when so faint.

"I'm here, and I brought some help," he assured her.

Lay approached the bed, concern and bafflement mixed on his face. He looked at the horrible wounds. Without needing answers, he touched the girl's arm and another palm resting on her cheek. He was almost taken back at her disorienting ES, but ignored it, and a greenish-yellow light emanated from his touch, beginning to heal the girl. The smaller wounds healed immediately, leaving behind only barely visible pink scars. Lay focused more of his efforts on the deep wounds on her arms. He widened his eyes when he saw her left hand. She had two tattoo rings that indicated a bonding of soulmates. He could read the tiny names inscribed on her skin.

On her ring finger read Alaina and Taemin. On her middle finger was Alaina and Jongin.

"So her name is Alaina," Lay said conversationally despite he was contributing so much of his ES and power to heal the girl. The circular wound near her upper arm was beginning to close gradually. Alaina exhaled hoarsely, hardly conscious from the blinding pain.

Taemin swallowed, not looking away from his soulmate's face. "Ne," he replied softly.

"It's a pretty name," commented Lay, narrowing his eyes as he held Alaina's horribly damaged arm with both hands to hasten the healing process. The greenish-yellow light of his power enhanced illumination.

They were surprised when they heard a soft chuckle from Alaina.

"Kamsamnida," she murmured to Lay very quietly and tried for a smile. "So you're Lay."

He smiled back timidly, dimpling. She chuckled again.

"He reminds me of you, Key umma," she whispered unevenly, turning her head to see the latter.

Key choked on a laugh, rubbing at his eyes. "I guess so." Jonghyun hugged his soulmate, both relieved.

As she felt some energy and relief ease her body, Alaina focused her gaze on the new faces of EXO-M peering interestedly at her from behind SHINee.

"Is she getting better?" asked one person quietly in a wan tone. It was one of the people EXO-M did not know. He had pink-dyed hair and a tall, limber body.

Onew smiled wearily. "She is." And the person who asked sighed in relief.

Tapping his chin, Luhan observed SHINee's and EXO-K's condition. "You guys look beat up. What happened?" he questioned in fluent Korean.

"Err..." SHINee and EXO-K exchanged unsure glances. They were like caught burglars.

"We'll talk after everyone is cleaned up and healed, araso?" suggested Suho calmly.

"Araso," everyone agreed.

Tao looked at B.A.P. curiously. "Who are you people?" asked the maknae in his best Korean. The four members B.A.P. didn't answer, only shifting uncomfortably where they sat on the floor.

Kris held the maknae back. "Tao, it's impolite to ask," he chided him in Mandarin. Tao pouted at him but refrained himself from asking questions.

"Her arm is getting better," gasped Kai, seeing the ugly color of blood clotting from under the surface of her skin fade into a normal skin tone. Alaina tested her fingers. Yup, she could do small movements, but it still hurt like crazy. Lay frowned.

"I have to set her bones or else they'll heal incorrectly," reported the healer very gravely. "It's gonna..."

"Hurt?" Alaina finished for him and he nodded apologetically. She sighed. "Can everyone excuse themselves but Jonghyun appa, Onew oppa, and Lay?"

"Bwo? Why?" asked Baekhyun.

"I don't want to leave," objected Kai and Taemin nodded in agreement.

Alaina pursed her lips. "Just do it. Onew oppa?"

Onew stood up knowingly and looked at everyone seriously. "Don't force me to use my powers."

Most of them - mainly Sehun, Chanyeol, Baekhyun, Tao, and Xiumin blanched - not wanting to be forcibly control against their wills.

"And no talking about anything until I say so, araso?" warned Onew, wagging a finger.

Suho nodded. "I'll watch over them, Onew hyung." He shooed everyone out. He and Minho had to drag the reluctant Kai and Taemin out the room and shut the door behind them.

"You want me to set up a silent area, don't you?" Jonghyun asked Alaina with a frown.

She nodded apologetically, sinking weakly into the bed. "I have a feeling I might scream. Onew oppa, order me not to thrash about, araso?"

Onew exhaled and nodded dutifully. "Understood."

Jonghyun informed them when he had his 'silent range' in effect. Onew held onto Alaina's good hand reassuringly. And Lay braced himself, gripping Alaina's arm. Alaina prepared herself for the upcoming pain, shutting her eyes.

"Here we go," said Lay very seriously and twisted Alaina's arm.

Only the three of them heard her screams.

Chapter 24: Damn!!! The guardians make me sooooooooooooo angry!!!
They're so clueless, obviously the demons want her, she has a spell to keep her powers away, and she has a 'strange' ES...... What else do they need!!!!! They even have clues like "the demons have found the chosen one......" But for some reason ( sarcastic tone ) all these demons keep coming for her...!!!!! It's so obvious!!!..
