Chapter 30

Guardian

Another short update because I'm not sure how long the next chapter will be but it is highly possible it will be kinda long. Excuse me for mistakes and if I'm confusing any of you. Thanks for subbing or commenting! It brightens my day because I always freak out when I see 'new comments' and read them, and then melt. O_o I have problems with emotions. NOTE: If any of you have read my 'Maknae Love' fic, I'm thinking about deleting it and starting the other version I had in mind but still uses some OC's and original ideas from the first version. I only have this time in summer to update more than I do during school so that's why I'm asking. I need to spread the word and ask my friends for their opinions...so yeah. Hope I didn't forget anything. Enjoy!

(Alaina's POV)

My head spun like my blurred vision when I woke up. My dream was so weird. I remember seeing a butterfly...then chasing after it...then...

Zelo.

I sat up abruptly, and belatedly realized I wasn't at home.

I was in a bare, dark room. One I did not recognized. I was laying on a cot, the only furniture in the stark room. No windows, the lights weren't on, and I couldn't see where the light switch was.

Rope bounded my wrists, holding my hands tightly close together. I wasn't injured from the lack of pain I felt, aside the constriction of the rope, but I felt kinda lightheaded and numb. I just noticed I was bare-footed and still wearing the clothes I had when I took a nap.

What time was it? Where was I? Did I really see Zelo?

Seeing how I wouldn't get answers from waiting and sitting around, I decided to get up and observe my surroundings. The room itself was box-shaped, and by trailing my hand against the wall, I found the door. Cautiously, I turned the doorknob and it creaked opened.

The narrow hallway was less darker - more dim than dark - and no one around. I didn't hear anyone so I stepped out quietly. I really wished I had some shoes because my feet would get dirty and injured quick if I didn't. Choosing blindly, I treaded down the right side of the hallway. I stayed close to the wall, not liking being out in the open when I didn't know where I was. I dared not to speak one word, afraid my voice would echo in such barren place and alert whoever captured me.

I had a good guess who held me captive when turning into another hallway, and stumbled upon a familiar scene. A large, spacious room with a high ceiling, an aisle down the middle, large, paired pillars, and a platform up front. I gasped.

"I'm in B.A.P.'s hideout," I breathed in bewilderment. I stepped out onto the aisle and surveyed the room. It seemed I couldn't take the door out because it was chained up, and it was impossible to reach the upper windows at such height to escape. "What do I do?" I muttered in vexation.

"Nothing," answered a voice resonating from a corridor. "You can't do anything."

Frightened, I backed up as the person stepped onto the platform, the sliver of sunlight illuminating his face.

"You're Yongguk, leader of B.A.P.," I said quietly, eyes widening.

He nodded. "Ne. You're well informed, of course, yours powers were meant to be very informative."

"You know about my powers?" I asked warily, not liking how he knew.

"Zelo and Youngjae keep me up-to-date. And I got more information from my hyungs," Yongguk said simply. He narrowed his eyes at me, judging me. His dark eyes held no glint or light either. "So you're the Peacemaker? You don't seem like it, but I was warned that the fact that you seem so normal and insignificant is a hint of your identity. Then your ES and appearance and background..."

I grimaced. He knew about my background? He knew I was an orphan?

"Why did you call me 'the Peacemaker'?" I demanded in a small but firm voice. "What is that?"

"Kinda obvious by the name," he replied. "A title given to the person destined to give and maintain peace. An enemy to us demons, but moreover, to the King."

"And you think this Peacemaker is me?" I questioned dubiously. "That's...impossible. That's stupid."

"Oh, but it's true," said Yongguk, taking on step down the platform and I edged back instinctively. "Akiyama Alaina, you see, the Peacemaker is reincarnated when the Reversed World is in need of their savior, the keeper of balance. The Peacemaker has the same sliver of soul, same powers, same goals in life. The last Peacemaker died nearly three centuries ago and everyone in the Reversed World knows that the current Peacemaker was re-born again sixteen years ago. In Korea, she is seventeen years old." Yongguk took another step forward. "That person...is you."

"So this important person is me?" I asked skeptically. "Out of all the people in the world and the Reversed World, it's me?"

"Fate is unpredictable, isn't it? But it is inevitable." Yongguk shook his head. "To think you were in Japan the entire time. Fate brought you to South Korea where our trackers sensed someone with the qualities of the Peacemaker. Youngjae scouted you when you first moved here. There was something odd about you, not quite human, which was the biggest hint of all. Your guardians were deluded otherwise when you bonded to one of them and brought attention to your powers." He tilted his head to observe me closer. "You do know that Lee Jinki considered you were the Peacemaker, and perhaps some of the others, but they were hesitant to look into it closely."

I blinked in surprise. Lee Jinki? Onew oppa? He thought...he thought I was this Peacemaker.

"What's so important about the Peacemaker that you need to create all this chaos to capture me?" I demanded.

"So many things," Yongguk said. "Can't you guess? I heard from a channel that King tried to trap you with the conscious part of him in the dream world."

I shuddered as I remembered that awful, frightening nightmare. "Him? That monster? He said I did these-"

"Ne, long story short, you - or precisely your past reincarnation - sealed him away and has been trying to break free. He is waking from his slumber but cannot be fully released unless the seal is broken," explained Yongguk. "He is the Demon King, our leader, master, and god." His composed voice dropped. "He wants to kill you."

I paled, white as a sheet. "Then why are the guardians...? What is the Peacemaker to them?" I wouldn't allow myself to say 'what am I to them'.

"The Peacemaker is sort of their goddess, their angel, the cherished child of the Reversed World." Yongguk sighed. "Many legends describe the Peacemaker to be the only true child of Mother Almighty. Many of us believe it to be true for the Peacemaker has never once revealed their birthrights."

A shiver coursed up my spine. Yongguk was telling the truth, I could sense it. But what bothered me was...how come I felt like he really was talking about me? It was like I was learning my roots, my life. I shouldn't have been learning so much, which caused the protection to fade, but...I was getting answers.

"Who is Mother Almighty?" I asked. The name seemed so familiar...

"If the Demon King rules us demons and is the source of our beginning, then Mother Almighty would be the same for guardians," clarified Yongguk. He did not care about giving me information, he answered everything willingly.

Something clicked in my head. Almighty Script, the sacred and most important language of guardians. The name must've derived from 'Mother Almighty'. How come Onew never taught me about their Queen? Their reason for existence?

I glanced down at my left hand, seeing Almighty Script spelling out my name, and my soulmates. The female voice in my dreams...she knew about the bonds, saying she was the reason behind them...

Mother Almighty had spoken to me. She had saved me from the Demon King.

My breathing increased in tempo. I was dumbfounded. Baffled. Mindblown.

I believed it. I had to be the Peacemaker.

"Now everything is going as planned," drolled Yongguk, but his eyes were withdrawn. "Peacemaker...we're taking you home."

"The Reversed World," I said plaintively like a child. I looked lost but not from the inside of my mind. I was trying to put the pieces together, recalling every fact and detail I could remember. Everything was moving too fast, disorienting me.

"The protection spell is on me to prevent you demons to find me, right?" I breathed, subdued. "But because of it, I'm also weak."

"Something Mother Almighty miscalculated," agreed Yongguk. "But you did, too. It wasn't like you were going to spend the rest of your life as a mere human. Fate brought you back to your reality."

The implication that being human is a dream and an Inhuman a reality? How ironic. But it made me wistful.

The answers, information, the truth dawned onto me like the sky was on my shoulders. My head was spinning and my heart beating faster and faster. I was going hysterical. I didn't notice when my legs gave out and I fell on my rear end. I didn't notice when I curled my legs into my chest and balled myself up, my bounded wrists close to my head.

It's true. It's all true. And deep inside of me, I knew it.

"Alaina?" called a familiar voice. Someone rushed to my side and knelt down, reaching out towards me. Knowing it was him, I stiffened and shook my head without looking up, rejecting any comfort.

"Mianhae," Zelo mumbled, downcasted. That sorry was meant for so many reasons.

"Seems like she finally sees reality, huh?" said Yongguk, tone sober. Then he mumbled, "Where are the others?"

"Block B hyungs say they'll go to the Reversed World after we confirm we're there," Zelo reported, not thrilled by the idea, and he didn't stray from my side. "They're still stuck in Super Junior's radar."

"Daehyun and the others better return soon," said Yongguk gravely. "The portal will open in at least an hour."

Those words filtered into my brain. The portal. The portal that would take me to the Reversed World.

That meant I would separated from Taemin and Kai. That meant I would be killed there.

"No, no, no," I was chanting in small whimpers. I stood up abruptly and backed away from Zelo and down the aisle. I felt like prey that would be eaten. I felt like a prize that would be thrown aside to tarnish.

"I'm not going," I said defiantly then louder, "I am not going!"

"Zelo, restrain her," ordered Yongguk sternly. Zelo's face was tight and conflicted, but he listened and reached out to grab my arm. I jerked my arm back and glared at him through tears.

"Alaina..." He was so apologetic, but he couldn't disobey his leader who would resort to hurting him. He forcibly grabbed both my arms as I tried to shake off his hold but it was futile."

"Let me go, you monsters!" I shouted. "You're stupid King can stay locked up for another century for all I care because I'm not going to be your pawn!"

"Then we may all die anyway," responded Yongguk like a warning underlined with a plea. "The King as other servants and minions who will do his dirty work willingly. Us, B.A.P., have been given too many warnings that they grow impatient and will kill us for our delay." Yongguk narrowed his eyes at Zelo who didn't meet his gaze. "Many of us are very reluctant. You think I am heartless and mindless, listening to orders, but I do so the others won't hurt my friends, and my only family. When we became demons, we were striped of our freedom and kept like animals. You don't think I still care about what happens to my friends?!" His voice was a gruff shout.

I stopped thrashing around to glance between Yongguk and Zelo. Zelo looked as taken back as me while Yongguk was steely.

"Hyung...you..." uttered Zelo in disbelief.

We were interrupted when there was banging on the chained doors behind us. We all tensed instinctively.

"Yah!" shouted Yongjae. "Who locked the door? Are you in there, hyung?"

"Hurry up," said Daehyun's voice hoarsely. "I'm about to pass out."

"Open the door, Zelo," commanded Yongguk.

Zelo released me and stroded over to the doors. He grabbed at the chains, waited a second, and ripped it free. The chains fell but didn't sound heavy or noisy but kinda light and lofty like toy plastic. Youngjae stumbled in, hauling an inept Daehyun with him. They both looked ragged and beaten up with wounds all over them. Zelo looked shocked. I felt something tickle my mind, urging me to look closer. But what? It was only two defeated demons.

"Where's Himchan and Jongup?" questioned Yongguk sharply.

"They went overboard with the fight and I think were killed," huffed Youngjae, looking disdain for a moment then it passed. "I found Daehyun in the wreckage and we agreed to come back."

"Hyungs are dead?" asked Zelo in a low, disbelieving voice.

Youngjae let go of Daehyun who sat on the ground tiredly. "They're gone," Daehyun said softly, not looking up at the maknae.

Somehow the word rang true to my ears but I was...doubting them. Whatever six sense I had told me to listen and look. I felt someone...familiar...a lot of them... I peered at Youngjae and Daehyun more intently. I couldn't feel any extra ES but I knew something was off...

Youngjae inclined his head at me. "I see the plan was successful."

"The portal will open in merely fifty minutes," stated Yongguk. He didn't seem like anything was wrong, aside that deep inside he was sorry for his fallen comrades.

"Block B didn't come?" Youngjae asked while Zelo helped Daehyun to his feet. I was the only one who noticed that Daehyun whispered in Zelo's ear, but I didn't see Zelo's reaction because he was facing the other way. His shoulders stiffened the slightest and relaxed.

"Ani, they will come another time," said Yongguk.

"Hmm..." Youngjae looked musing, raising a brow. "I guess that's a good thing, then. Less of a hassle."

Zelo casually came over to me again, and I flinched back. He locked gazes with me and held onto my forearm. I felt his emotions, he was conveying a message to me.

He was hopeful. He had faith.

"Zelo," said Daehyun almost quietly, "you should take her now."

"What?" Yongguk frowned, looking suspiciously at the demon.

"What?" I repeated, more confused than ever.

"Run!" shouted Daehyun and then blasted a surge of ash at Yongguk.

"Daehyun!" snapped Yongguk. "What are you doing?" He dodged the swell of ash, it damaged the wall behind him.

Zelo ripped apart the binding rope, grabbed my hand, and forcibly tugged me away. But I had saw what happened next. Youngjae waved his hand and figures appeared into view from behind him, finally revealed from being cleverly cloaked.

Guardians.

My guardians.

They had been in the room the whole time, hidden by Youngjae's power. The guardians had silently followed the straggling demons and therefore, snuck into the hideout and found me. I saw Onew, Suho, Chanyeol, Baekhyun, D.O., Sehun, and Kai.

"Kai!" I gasped when I saw him.

"Alaina!" Kai shouted and ran towards me. But then halted when an explosion blew apart the upper windows, glass shattering everywhere.

"Jongup must've escaped from Key, Taemin, and Minho!" shouted D.O.

I didn't hear what else they were shouting because Zelo dragged me down a corridor and through hallway.

"What's going on?" I exclaimed as we ran away from where the rumbles and loud noises were emanating from in the main room.

"Daehyun hyung told me him and Youngjae teamed up with your guardians because they want to help," Zelo said hastily in a tight voice. "Then he said when he gave me a signal, I had to run away with you somewhere safe. That's all."

"But Jongup is alive so that means Himchan is, too," I said. "It was a plan."

"I can't take you in the front or back entrances because they'll be expecting that. All the entrances are blocked so I'm taking you to the roof," Zelo explained and then suddenly scooped me up bridal style and ran up a set of steep stairs. We were on the third level when Zelo abruptly halted when he saw a dangerous purple cloud creep down the hallway.

"There you are," hissed Himchan, coming into view down the hallway. He looked as defeated and battered as Youngjae and Daehyun, but he stalked us hungrily like prey. "Damn Youngjae and Daehyun for being traitors. I am not losing my face because of them!"

"Just give it up already!" Zelo snapped back. He set me on my feet and stood protectively in front of me. "This is all for nothing! Just stand down! You're outnumbered and weak!"

"I don't care!" snarled Himchan, eyes hard and cold. "I had enough of all this. It's all because of her." He jabbed a finger at me. "I'll make sure she rots."

The poisonous cloud flew foreward at us and Zelo tensed as I gasped. But a pink-red barrier suddenly encased us and the poison lingered outside, trying to corrode the shield.

"Just - in - time," gasped Key from behind us, his hand held out. He was sweating and exhausted, looking like he would collapse.

"Key umma!" I cried out, elated.

"You guys just had to be up here," he huffed, taking large gulps of air. He narrowed his eyes at Zelo. "You, demon boy, get my daughter out of here. I'll take care of Himchan."

"But-" he protested.

"GO!" snapped Key.

"You're dead meat, Kibum!" roared Himchan, and the barrier began to sizzle and weaken. Zelo ran off with me in the opposite direction. I glanced over my shoulder and saw Sehun come up the stairs and dart over to Key to help.

Zelo kicked open the roof door and we sprinted out into the open air. The sun was setting in the distance and a breeze blew at us at such height. My feet were hurt but I ignored it and ran on.

"Where now?" I panted, seeing how we were trapped on the roof with no other way to escape. I jumped when I heard more explosions and smoke from one side of the building.

"Jongup must be fighting someone over there," said Zelo, he bit his bottom lip in frustration. "Dammit, I don't know where to take you."

"She's going to the Reversed World," put in a voice crisply. Zelo and I spun around to see Yongguk coming towards us at an even pace. Plaster dust and some scrapes were visible on him but he seemed otherwise fine.

"How did he escape the others?" I whispered in bewilderment. "He was fighting at least six people."

"I collapse the entire room and ran off," answered Yongguk triumphantly. He leveled off with Zelo who did not back down, standing in front of me protectively. "Zelo, don't make me hurt you."

"Try me," baited Zelo, his voice apathetic but I knew he didn't want to hurt his hyung, someone who cared for him as a human.

Yongguk lips pressed into a thin line. "Either way, we will be punished." Then he lunged at Zelo.

Zelo pushed me out of the way and tried to go the opposite way, but Yongguk had grabbed his arm tightly. Zelo made a strangled sound and jerked back his arm and clutched at it. It seemed broken and limp.

Yongguk turned his attention to me. His eyes were pained but resolved. I was frozen stiff on the ground as he reached for me.

"NO!" Zelo grabbed a wooden stick, then it changed into a metal staff. He rammed it at Yongguk and the older demon flew off to the side. Zelo threw the metal staff and the jagged end impaled Yongguk in the arm, holding him onto the ground.

Yongguk snarled and clutched at the metal spear with his free hand. The metal began to crack and crumbled apart, freeing him. Blood flowed from his deep wound.

"Junhong!" growled Yongguk angrily. "You dare hurt me?"

"You gave me no choice!" spat back Zelo, holding onto his badly damaged arm. He winced but stayed strong.

I stood up weakly, shaking my head in distress. "Don't fight..."

The church was breaking and falling apart, it tipped the slightest of angles as some areas gave away from destruction. I staggered at the unbalanced ground.

I was losing it. This was all too much. Destruction. Friends fighting. So much conflict... It shouldn't be like this.

Zelo and Yongguk were about to charge at each other when I finally screamed:

"THAT IS ENOUGH!"

My ES flared out in waves and flew far, covering the area of which the church occupied. Light blinded our eyes, and warmth coursed on our skin. The world around us disappeared as we out.

They're so clueless, obviously the demons want her, she has a spell to keep her powers away, and she has a 'strange' ES...... What else do they need!!!!! They even have clues like "the demons have found the chosen one......" But for some reason ( sarcastic tone ) all these demons keep coming for her...!!!!! It's so obvious!!!..
