One day; three Autumns

Lee Residences

Seoul, South Korea

Park Jung Su sat in the corner of the library, wearing a three-piece suit leaving on the vest while his blazer lay over the empty chair beside him. The man with dark brown eyes, sharp nose and rosy lips, sat alone, his strong profile emphasized his defined jawline and wrote onto a black journal. It had only been days since they've met but so far, not a single word from the man. From afar, she had seen him smile and laugh, dimples showed yet his expression on normal days said nothing. The peculiar thing was, she had never been able to hold an eye contact, and has only watched him like today. Taeyeon had seen how he treats his elders so lovingly, holding their hands, sending them parcels, how he cares for the children at the hospital, volunteering in his spare time to keep them happy, for the first time she sees him smile with a dimple showing from his left chin.

But how could they understand the depth of his feelings for her. He was the one who did things, just for her.

Park Jung Su, he boggles her. Her heart leapt when he's near, his retentive honey-like scent, until she had heard him speak for the first time from the hallway. It was an innocent eavesdrop when the latter had been on the phone.

"Ah, yes of course. Cheers."

It was that voice, she knows that voice. She swears in the heart how much she recognized them. She turned behind only to be met with his wide eyes. He walked away ignoring the calls from Taeyeon.

"Eh, wait! Wait- Jung Su-shi!" She never made an attempt to find the reason on why he avoids her. Of anything that it could be, she never remembered, but she felt like she knew him. Everything about him draws her in. His eyes, overtime she catches them watching her with the corners of his lips curled. The way he spoke, his timidness, his softness. How he becomes subtle and cautious around her, she noticed it all.

Taeyeon would unknowingly miss him when he's not there, but he would always come around. They had no motives but for some reason she didn't want him to leave her. Almost infatuated with a mere stranger. But Park Jung Su isn't like her past. His actions, those affections, these are not the traits of a killer. And she hadn’t a chance to see Leeteuk’s face. Was it all coincidental?

By her table and a pile of flowers lay her mobility stick. Dong Wook came and wrapped his hands around her waist. They were sitting in her room. She holds his fingers in her hands, not wanting to look up at his eyes.

“Oppa?” she called, eyes intact towards the walking tool. He placed his head onto her shoulder and breathed in her scent.

“Yes, sweetheart?”

“You know about my past right?” He felt puzzled with her abrupt question.

“About your accident?” She nodded and he saw her eyes close.

“I can’t seem to recall my youth anymore.”

Those words met his skin and rested there for a while. She waited for him to say something. He thought for a moment.

“What do you want to remember most?”

“There was a man too, I still hear him in my dreams.”

“What man?” His breath was caught at her disclosure. She could feel his muscles tighten, waiting to reply.

“I don’t know. I don’t remember,” she told him honestly, looking into his eyes. He mustered a smile, noting the change in her wandering thoughts.

There was that trace of Leeteuk in Dong Wook she could never deny either. Recently, the former would often seek his Godbrother’s advice to impress Taeyeon more and more. With a smile, told him to present a bouquet of purple snapdragons, like he did today.

"I love it Dong Wook. A lot." She thanked.

She recalled a moment where she thrived on the scent of the purple lavender flowers and told Dong Wook about a particular time she pines being eighteen.

"In a strange way, I miss that year, because all those possibilities that existed then are gone,"

"You mean?" he faced her.

"I don't even know. I just feel like I miss something, that sense of loss, unfulfillment.” He noticed how a tear struck her eye and put his hands on top of hers. Taeyeon smiled lightly and wiped them.

“Some days I'll feel sad without knowing why. Like I've lost something very precious but forgot what it was, or like I was missing someone I've never met. Maybe I'm not the person everyone thinks I am. Or was. I don’t know anything, Dong Wook.”

He cooed her and held her hands as they walked around the garden. It has been a while since they had spent time together, where only happiness revolved around them and he felt like he needed to make up for it, seeing how yearning she became lately.

"Can I," she bit her lip. "Can I touch your face?"

He looked at her, puzzled, "Sure." He was amazingly handsome yet there has been no feeling with the contact of their skin. She scoffed at herself. Of course, he was not the man she once fell for. It was as if she hoped for him to be, after knowing all her favorites.

Cemetery

Seoul, South Korea

Jung Su visited the grave of Park In Young, placing a bouquet of white roses onto the tombstone. He kissed her grave and lay down next to it facing the sky. He whispered, tearing gradually saying, “I miss you, noona.” He sighed. “In these times, like today, I need you most sister.” He touched his heart.

“What if…I told you that I was to leave the girl I loved with all my heart? To sever any ties with her. I didn't come here to set things right, they never were. I came here to start over again. I remember trying to fight it, trying to not care about her…”

He denied it, told himself he didn’t care or need her, knowing full well how much of a lie that was. He wishes that, for the time being, he could go somewhere and not have to feel.

Chapter 31: After two years and reading this again I finally understood what happened. Part 2 was an alternative situation of what could have happen if Leeteuk was alive. Author-nim why did you put in that chapter 31 for you could just keep it at 30, but nevertheless this is the most magnificent, engaging, heartwarming and heartbroken story I have ever read.
The applaud go to you!

This is the first story to make me cry so much. My heart ached and rejoiced through every chapter, like I had been with them through all of the ordeals. I cannot express in words how much I love this story and how amazing this is. I read this all in one heartbeat, and I'm proud to say that I'm now finishe reading at 1:28 AM. This story has truly made me realize what true love is, what patience is, and how precious everything is. I would go on for ages, but the way you expressed all of these tender emotions just makes me feel so fufilled but drained at the same time.
I'm definitely going to anticipate your other stories. Please keep on writing; you have such a precious gift from God.
